  1. OK this is not really a question. We all know the dangers. This Cnet article outlines a few. Common sense can help avoid some of the issues but one in particular caught my eye. 2. Privacy settings revert to a less safe default mode after each redesign. This means you have to hide your details, lists and change your settings each time. Surely this could be done without it after each redesign. One thing is your date of birth. You list it when you sign up. But later you hide it so as not to give identity thieves too much info only to find it listed again. Changing your date of birth in your profile might help alleviate this ongoing facebook issue. Maybe I should change my year to be twenty-one again and change the day to February 29.
  2. I wouldn't think that java is the problem. If hotmail needed it and java was the problem then it likely wouldn't work in firefox. However you could go to Java in the control panel and update it just in case. Also restore the advanced settings in IE. Not likely an issue but just in case. Sometimes you need to log out of hotmail and delete all your IE temp and cookie files. If all that fails it might be time to move this thread to the malware removal section to have the experts take a look at a few things. Let us know and one of us can move this thread for you.
  3. Well done. Thanks for taking the time to post the solution. It will probably help some one.
  4. Did you reset by this method? How to Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7 Are you using IE7 or IE8? As noted registry cleaners can cause harm. Is Windows updated? As also noted malware may be interfering with IE. I tend to agree with LinkindinkinPark and BeeCeeBee on this one.
  5. You could try a system restore or you could go to the properties of the folder and try Previous Versions. Also check your font and encoding on the Read tab in your Windows Mail options.
  6. Hi, maybe I can help. Click on the blue button that says "add new post". On the message body toolbar click on the paper clip icon to upload and add attachments.
  7. Your quite welcome.
  8. I'm not a network guy but often times your internet provider will help you as it is in their best interest to do so. Beyond that others may want more information. I can think of a couple things: Who is your ISP? How do you connect? Hard wired? Wireless? Make, model and number of your modem and routers? Have you tried a different browser like Firefox to rule out a browser issue? What AV do you have? When did this problem happen? Have you done anything prior to this? Did you try a System Restore? Let the techs and members know please.
  9. Hi and welcome. We do try hard so post your issue in the section it best fits. As people come online and have the time you will hopefully get some good advice,
  10. Disable DAP. Download and save the shockwave uninstaller. Adobe - Web Players Run the uninstaller. Reboot the computer. Download and save Windows Shockwave Player 9.0.0.434 Run the installer.
  11. I can't seem to find the problem at the moment but I'll keep looking.
  12. I thank you kindly. It's good to know that you made some money because of us. Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help does indeed have many benifits for the members. Of course we also appreciate the help given by you.
  13. What ever you use to put 60 minutes on to a 30 minute disk is probably going to greatly reduce the video quality. What is the file type on the disks?
  14. Hi Berne. We hope you enjoy it here.
  15. I moved this post from a different thread so if anyone needs more information please ask Corinne.
  16. I think any laptop optical drive should work. Like you said though make sure you get a IDE or SATA depending on what you have. All I can find from Acer on what you have is this. 1X Blu-ray Discâ„¢/DVD-Super Multi double-layer or 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer (varies by model)
  17. Yockie regardless of what happens we thank you for your kind words about us. You said you have no disks to reinstall Windows but if you can tell us your make, model and number there may be options. Just a thought. As far as helping us you might be surprised. Come back and look around. You never know when you might be able to help someone else. I'll let you continue now while I do other things.
  18. Hi. It's possible the hard drive is failing since restoring to factory settings didn't help and sounds like it even made it worse. Try running some of these test programs. Testing a Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test
  19. Hi scarletto. It appears that you made the donation on April 30 but you weren't logged in at the time so we didn't know it was you. I have corrected that and moved you to the Donating user group. Thanks.
  20. Two years is a long time to not use a cartridge. It may be clogged or dried out. There is the Z640 and T640. With the Z640 there is probably a control panel that will let you flush the jets. With the T640 you would use the printer display window.
  21. This thread might be moved to a different forum section. If it is you will see it is moved. Just click on it and you will be taken to it.
  22. Good work BeeCeeBee. Good thing you were here.
  23. Sorry you don't have the Windows disks but I do understand why. I too wondered about your antiviruses. A wise choice you made with choosing Starbuck to assist you. You're in good hands. Good luck everyone.
  24. Hi guys. I'm the last person to offer advice on this but I did have a couple questions if you don't mind. If it has a graphics card and onboard graphics would going into the BIOS cause it to use the card or onboard? I too would suspect a graphics problem but considering what Nev pointed out I'm wondering if it's a mobo problem. Could that be an issue with a card or onboard graphics? Like I said this is not my area. Just trying to help.
  25. Hi Yockie. Please be patient. Starbuck will be back to assist you. One thing that was mentioned by Tootech is your antivirus program. Are you running more than one? Which one or ones do you have? As this is a used school computer and it has things you never installed I'm betting it was never formatted and Windows reinstalled. On any used computer I always suggest to completely reinstall Windows to rid yourself of leftover garbage and problems. Just my thoughts if you have the Windows disks.
