  1. Hi What is the exact make and model and number of your external drive and PC? Is anything showing in Device Manager? Any and all details would be greatly appreciated.
  2. This could be a totally corrupted system due to a drive problem but my first guess would be malware. I'm going to move this thread.
  3. It sounds like the read head has failed but not the write head. That's often the case. A new combo drive is probably needed.
  4. Like I said I'm at a loss as to why it does not work unless there is a third party program stopping it. A registry edit might do it but are you sure you want to risk that?
  5. Hi goody. It was hard to determine where I should move this to but this was the best I could do. If you could please provide more details about your business you would get more opinions on what to do. If it is a business the first thing I would suggest is to get your own domain name.
  6. Hi Pamela and welcome. If you can please post in the right section we will do our very best for you. Please provide any and all information that might help us help you. Take a look at the the link Plastic Nev provided to help you start a new thread. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/introductions/7940-use-forum-and-post-new-messages.html Good to have you here Pamela.
  7. That's good to hear. We look forward to seeing you around. Thanks for letting us know.
  8. This might sound like a silly question but did you click Apply and OK? Other than that I'm at a loss. No matter what file or folder I delete I don't get the confirmation prompt to send it to the Recycle bin.
  9. That's strange. I just now tested it on my Vista and it worked. Windows 7 too.
  10. Hi tismehi. Richt click Recycle bin. Click Properties. Untic Display delete confirmation dialog.
  11. I would like to have recommended the Logitech because you would be dealing with a real name brand company. They actually exist so there would be real support options. Unfortunately that webcam is for Vista and Windows 7 only. The other two say they will work on Windows 98 or newer. But keep in mind there is no support options for them because there is no actual company. It's just a name they slap on them.
  12. I've been watching this thread and two things came to mind as you also thought of. One is that this is a new built PC and should be under warranty if it was built by a shop. Since it was built by an enthusiast that is probably out of the question. The second thing was of the most concern to me. A new PC would need a new OS installed. The fact that XP was installed and not Windows 7 or even Vista led me to believe that the XP was not legit. I think by what you said that you have now figured that out for yourself. I thank you for letting us know more. If we can be of any help in getting this machine working by legal means we would be more then happy to assist you. You are more then welcome to post on this or any other issue in the future. I wish you luck and hope you continue to visit us.
  13. Tootech I deleted your post because I deleted the Sollynaljesony post for adding spam. He added spam to his signature. Lone wolf makes good points but I'm not a Mac user. I think Tootech knows a bit about Macs though. A good subject. Good and bad about both. I'll step aside now. :)
  14. Hi tallica. If you can connect to other sites at the same time and it only happens with them sometimes then I would say they are having a server problem.
  15. This is hard to figure out. What little I can find on that model says it's 5mp not 1.3mp. All of the 5mp ones I found do not support ME. Also are you sure you have USB2. With an OS that old you might only have USB1. If this is your camera then it uses USB1 and does support ME so it should work. If it's any other you might be out of luck. Buy Mikomi 1.3Mp Laptop Webcam. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for . Correction. I found this one. Buy Mikomi 1.3Mp Mic and Zoom Webcam. at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for . It does not support ME.
  16. Keyboard issues are not a driver problem. As this is a laptop and considering your issues I'm inclined to agree with Tootech. Get the recovery disks from Sony. If a complete reinstall does not solve the problem then there is a problem with the laptop itself. Unfortunately laptop repair can be expensive but if there is a physical problem with it it's usually best to take it to a shop or replace it.
  17. Is anything else slow? Such as programs starting or opening folders? How many programs are running at startup? Look at the notification area for some clues. If it isn't malware or RAM (2gb is enough for Vista) then I would be inclined to think it's too many startup items or a failing drive.
  18. There are several possibilities. One being a failing hard drive. Just to be safe you should backup your data. Is anything else slow? Is hers an XP computer or Vista? How much RAM does it have? Have you run any malware scans?
  19. Thanks for posting back. I'm glad we were able to help you. Come back any time.
  20. mjkenny49 has informed me that was the issue and it is now resolved.
  21. Don't give up. There are many fine people on this forum willing to help. Type "%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe" without the quotes in the Run box. This will start System Restore. Watch this video for ways to get to it and how to use it since you can't read the wingding font. Even with that font you should be able to type and with the video navigate. Give it a try.
  22. Hi. If you mean the "Menu Bar" right click an empty area of your toolbar and put a check mark in Menu Bar. You can also view it temporarily by pressing the Alt key on your keyboard.
  23. Download Messenger and choose RUN. When it installs you'll see it in your Startmenu All Programs. Download Messenger Open it and use your hotmail ID and password.
  24. It's possible that malware has taken over. Have you tried safemode or System Restore?
  25. Hi and welcome. Someone should see your thread soon.
