1. Sometimes when a program won't uninstall correctly it's easiest to do a System Restore.
2. What is the make, model and number of your computer? XP comes with a lot of basic drivers although you may still need more or better ones. What did you use to install XP?
3. OK look in Programs and features to see if Java is installed. Can you view youtube videos? If not look at this post. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/security-questions-av-firewalls-etc/6001-flash-player-problem.html#post43026
4. I have to agree with KenB and Plastic Nev. the first one: it's a compaq CD written on it compaq color monitor series 5500,7500,7550,9500 But you said you had a LG monitor. the second: COMPAQ operating system CD W98 SE. Arabic Enabled Only use with compaq restore CD only for distribution with a compaq pc the third: COMPAQ restore CD Compaq Desktop, iPaq, and workstation series. version 1.6 requires the compaq operating system CD version 1.6 requires the compaq operating system CD Your computer was built not bought. If this computer is not an off the shelf name brand computer (Compaq) then these disks are worthless. Further the OS is suspect if it was supplied with these disks. Yes there are ways to cheat but fraught with problems. If this computer was made then it should have a full retail installation disks not a branded set like Compaq restore CD's. They aren't even XP. 98 Compaq Restore CD's can be bought for pennies. It sounds like Ken and Nev said. I think whoever installed Windows did so illegally. No volume license here. Your disks are either a ruse or a hacker supplied set. If the above assumptions are true then your options are to buy an OS that is legal and fully supported. Not hacked. After that take up the issue with the vendor and raise the legal issues with them. There is also the matter of validation which can also be hacked temporarily. Any OS from XP on needs activated. Not exactly sure what you have? I could go on and on but the point is if we are correct you need to fully reinstall with a retail set of disks not Compaq disks since your computer is not Compaq.
5. Hi Heru. Welcome to our second home.
6. Considering you have had previous infections it's likely that this is caused by malware. Is this just the desktop shortcut icons that cause this error? Have you tried other shortcuts? Have you tried opening programs with the exe file instead of a shortcut? Can you give us an example of what programs won't open? Did you ever get rid of your previous infections? What antivirus program do you have? Was there any particular reason you were scanning with SuperAntispyware? Did it find and remove anything? If so what?
7. Edit. Since you have Vista try uninstalling from Programs and Features in the Control Panel first. Reboot and try installing again.
8. Hi Kitten. I can tell you what I do when flashplayer won't install right. Download the uninstaller. Download Flash Player 10 (157 MB) (zip folder) Right click the zip folder and extract all. Close all browser windows, messengers etc. Run the uninstaller. Reboot the computer. Make sure all windows, messengers etc. are closed. Open the Flash Player folder and open the folder inside that has the biggest number. That will be the newest version of Flash. Find the setup or application file and double click it. Reboot the computer.
9. Just hang tight Judy. Starbuck can advise you when he gets back. You have some problems I see.
10. I'm still confused. You're not trying to run XP cloned from a different computer are you?
11. It's been a while since I used Windows ME or the Windows Media Player that ME supports. Are you trying to open it in WMP? Do you have any other players installed? What security do you have? There are very few that still support ME or 98 so maybe that might be it. There are a lot of rogue codecs out there. In addition an unsupported player might cause issues. I'm not bashing ME. I used it for years after configuring it. However it is unsupported these days. As such it is vulnerable and security is not that good. Drivers. Players. Codecs. Malware. Have you installed any players or codecs recently? Is your security up to date? Any P2P? Have you tried System Restore?
12. OK I think you are using IE8 and not Firefox. I'm going to let chiaz or Starbuck look at this. They are the experts. I'm surprised that Malwarebytes didn't remove pyagcore because the last time I looked it detected it. Please don't manually delete any more files or folders. Unless you are sure of what you are doing it can cause problems. Please ignore the following for the time being. I set a restore point and installed the latest version of the kiwee toolbar. There were three entries in Programs and Features (add/remove). All three uninstalled (one was for Firefox). In IE there was still an entry in Tools>Manage Add-ons but no toolbar. Firefox uninstalled clean. Although in Firefox I had to reset my homepage and default search. Toolbar Cop cleaned up the entry in IE. It also worked as a complete uninstaller in IE. There were three entries. Perhaps a reinstall of the latest version followed by a regular uninstall followed by Toolbar Cop would remove all but the file folder. System Restored. But I still seem some harmless folders in C:\ProgramData (agi and kiwee) I'm going to run Malwarebytes to see if it finds anything. No infections found.
13. As noted it might be not enough memory which is cheap. I believe you can go up to 1 Gb.
14. Are you using IE or Firefox?
15. Hi Judy and welcome. I moved your other post to the Malware Infection Removal section.
16. Judy has followed Gokus malware guide. Judy did you uninstall the kiwee toolbar first? If not do so then run the steps again. Step 5 is for System Restore. Do you mean step 4 which is the Eset scan did not work?
17. sheley could you please start a new thread. Adding to someone elses thread is not the best way to get your problem noticed.
18. I'm wondering if this is a BIOS password. Many laptops have those set by default. Can you get into the BIOS? On a Compaq this is usually done by tapping the F10 key at startup. The problem is that password issues are usually something that most forums won't deal with. We have rules on it too. This might be something you need to contact Compaq about.
19. I really don't have a clue why you are getting all of these problems. Would it be possible to do a system restore? Maybe pick a point prior to the beta office?
20. Back in the day when MTV was all about music videos.
21. Hi and welcome. We can't solve them all but everyone here works hard to try. Good luck.
22. If you are getting a CMOS Checksum error it might be the CMOS battery. If your machine was getting slow and the reinstall caused this problem it might be one of your hard drives on your RAID setup is bad. On most brands of computers if you're using a recovery disk instead of a full installation disk your computer may not match the disk. Either way like Jelly Bean said you will need to obtain a version of Windows with a brand new key. 1. Try a new battery which is cheap. 2. Run a hard drive test. Most drive manufacturers supply a download that you can make an ISO disk from. I find these programs to be better than chkdsk. 3. You might need to purchase a full installation with a new key which you need to do anyway to be in compliance with Microsofts licensing rules.
23. One of our secucurity experts will likely say the same things any one else will. But follow through with the cleaning first. I think you are probably just about done. After that you might get some opinions on over all security. A dedicated banking computer would be over kill in my opinion. In any case I will wait.
24. The main office is in Israel but I only know that by looking for it. Other than that I have no experience with them. Maybe they don't do business in the USA.
25. This issue is being handled in the Vista forum at http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/windows-vista/9289-thought-sprite-drink.html Hi and welcome.
