1. I'm afraid Pay Pal is the only method the owner has set up. Yes we do try to make it feel like home. The members and staff really are great. By the way. Did you donate? If so I'll change your status immediately. Either way we appreciate your help and hope you never leave.
2. I don't know. Have you tried the Microsoft fix on my last link.
3. I've got a million of them. :) The thing about this thread though is that I'm afraid we may come off looking elitest. We have a lot of inexperienced members who might be doing the same things. I wouldn't want them to think we make fun of them even though we don't. On a related matter the funniest thing is what I myself did. I still tell that story to this day. I won't tell it here but it just proves that we all can be in such a position.
4. Do you have HP Pavilion dv9038ea Notebook PC If so scroll down to Driver - Storage. You might need the Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader Driver. If you have the HP Pavilion Elite m9038hk Desktop PC all I see for XP is HP Software Update.
5. Hi madon. I can't hear my voice when using the microphone on my headsets. If you want to check it open up the Windows Sound Recorder and record. Then save the file and play it back.
6. Thanks Match. You're right. Match would uninstalling the device be enough if Windows reloads drivers and the original drivers get reinstalled and they are corrupt? Or would maybe something like uninstalling software help by forcing a different set of drivers or a reinstall of the software is needed? Does that make any sense? Would disabling the device rather than uninstalling it help? I was just wondering if that would stop a reinstallation of corrupt drivers that might keep loading. I was just wondering if a corrupt driver reinstall is causing the issue. I really don't know. That's why I'm asking.
7. Lucky you Twiceshy. You're getting a lot of team effort from the best of the best on this thread. Thanks everyone who has posted so far.
8. Hi and welcome Dave. I'm looking forward to working with you. I sent you a PM.
9. If the Universal Serial Bus Controllers are listed try uninstalling those and rebooting. Make sure ALL USB devices are unplugged first. If the Universal Serial Bus Controllers are listed and you have yellow marks in Other Devices try disabling the other devices not uninstalling them. Like Jelly Bean says it appears to be a driver issue.
10. The reason I asked if you got that error after trying a reinstall is because a search gave me this link? You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program One thing you have to consider though is that this is a beta version. That means it is untested and you are the one testing it. As a tester it would be wise to direct your issues to them as that is the point of testing beta version products.
11. Hi Alec. Que tal? Welcome to our humble home. I know a bit of high school spanish but that was many decades ago.
12. Hi Alec. This is the worse thing that can happen. Turning off a computer during a reinstall and no disks. What is the loop? What is the error? Details please. What is the model and model number of the Dell? There might be a way to reinstall from the recovery partition but the members or staff would need more details.
13. Hi rebecca. What version of Office or Word do you have? Did you get this error before you tried to uninstall and reinstall Word or after?
14. Hi frostini. Unfortunately Microsofts licensing rules are clear in this matter. You have to pay for every single installation unless a previous installation is unregistered. For that you have to convince Microsoft that a previous installation is uninstalled. What it sounds like is that they used their disk to install Windows. Unfortunately that key would already be in use and registered so you can't use it. Validation probably failed. There is a way to check this if you want to. If it fails you have every right to take action against the shop.
15. Hi. I don't have a Mac so I don't know the best software to use but others here do have Macs. There are a lot of different downloaders out there but it depends on what site the videos are on as to whether they will work. What is the site? If they are FLV after the download all you need is a FLV player or converter.
16. Hi frostini. We wish you the best here.
17. Hi Sercher. Children sure can make computing life fun. Hopefully we can help with that. Good to have you here.
18. Taken from Windows Help and Support. When you enable Windows Remote Assistance:
You can get help using Windows Remote Assistance. Windows Remote Assistance is allowed through Windows Firewall so that it can communicate with your helper's computer. When you add a program to the list of allowed programs in a firewall, or when you open a firewall port, you allow a particular program to send information to or from your computer through the firewall. Allowing a program to communicate through a firewall (sometimes called unblocking) is like punching a hole in the firewall. Each time you open a port or allow a program to communicate through a firewall, your computer becomes a bit less secure. The more allowed programs or open ports your firewall has, the more opportunities there are for hackers or malicious software to use one of those openings to spread a worm, access your files, or use your computer to spread malicious software to others. It's generally safer to add a program to the list of allowed programs than to open a port. If you open a port, it stays open until you close it, whether or not a program is using it. If you add a program to the list of allowed programs, the "hole" is open only when needed for a particular communication. To help decrease your security risk:
Only allow a program or open a port when you really need to, and remove programs from the list of allowed programs or close ports that you no longer need. Never allow a program that you don't recognize to communicate through the firewall.
19. Thanks Kitten. I'm glad we figured it out too. Ignore Maynard. He likes to pick on me. :):)
20. Hi PAK961. I have no idea of how to troubleshoot this software. But since you say that's when the issue started you could try uninstalling it or do a System Restore to before you installed it and the trouble started. VSO does have a few support options.
21. Since Windows is on C and these files are on D which would be a second drive or a partitioned drive then it can't hurt to delete them. Those files would have come from the Chkdsk when it ran. It appears that Chkdsk found bad sectors on the drive and you chose not to delete the damaged files. Probably useless at this point. I can't think of anyway to get anything off of them. I would be concerned that your drive might be failing if Chkdsk fired up and found problems. It sounds like it to me. Backing up your data to a different source would be a good idea just in case.
22. PseFrank hit the nail on the head didn't he. Well done you two.
23. Is drive D the drive Windows is on?
24. Yes Kitten. Get your security turned back on. I'm sure glad it's working for you again. Two months is a long time to wait. Happy day.
