  1. A 4870 GPU at full load uses just over 300Watts of power - cutting it VERY close if you ask me
  2. when you go back into the BIOS set the first boot device to HDD and disable the rest. I would say that you have an HDD issue, run a chkdsk
  3. uninstall the driver from add/remove programs and then see if the problem persists, I would say that you have an old driver and software and then get the latest from the HP website
  4. There is no point in doing what you ask unless you have so many that you can utilise the speed of DOS. (as in over a million numbers) what format are the numbers stored in, WORD, EXCEL, NOTEPAD etc
  5. AVG is really really bad and wont pick up much at the best of times - replace it with Avast or Avira. CHKDSK is Check Disk and it checks the HDD for errors, when the PC loads does the HDD light on the front of the case flicker lots or stay solid? It would appear that something either at start up (we can go into that later) or the HDD itself is struggling
  6. Hi, That report does not tell what speed the RAM is I would guess that it is not very fast though, TBH the CPU, GPU and RAM could all do with being upgraded but it depends on what you want to use it for, Crysis even by todays standards of technology is still a very high requirement game and you really need a faster dual or quad core CPU at least a 260GTX or faster GPU. If you are looking to spend £100 I would honestly upgrade the GPU to a GTX 260 GS or an HD 5770 1GB (both of these are suitable for a 20''-22'' monitor) but they still wont allow for Crysis at 1680x1050 with AA and AF set to max
  7. you can have a look at the processes tab on CTRL ALT and DEL and select task manager it will show you what programs are using what and they are normally linked to the RAM as it all goes through the RAM to get to the HDD - see what uses the most RAM and let us know. If you no longer require Kaspersky then I would remove it through the add/remove programs as its not good to have things like AV suites lingering that you do not use
  8. Please also be aware that your GPU choice is limited by your PSU and MOBO
  9. Are you not using a server connected to the 37 PCS? All server software has the ability to back up and restore files and folders, the information should be saved and distributed to the server in order for it all to be backed up
  10. Its related to HP drivers - uninstall your printer drivers and see if it continues. (make sure you can get the print drivers before you remove them) but it can also be Malware - you may want to check with Chiaz about that and post in the Malware section just to be sure
  11. All MOBOs have a limit set on the amount of RAM it can physically accept, if your maximum allowed RAM is 1GB then that would account for your issues, but only the manual will tell you that. If all else fails you are better off with 1GB of slower RAM than 512mb of the speeds you are talking about EDIT - found this on your MOBO Memory• Supports single channel DDR2 533/667, using two 240-pin/1.8V DDR2 DIMMs. • Supports a maximum memory size up to 2GB If you are comfortable looking in the BIOS then you may have to manually set the voltage for the RAM.
  12. have you changed any settings in the BIOS? the problem you see to have only points to the GPU and Monitor at the moment, so I would check that the GPU is seated correctly and that the DVI or VGA cable is secure in both the monitor and at the GPU
  13. hi and welcome to fpch :)
  14. Hi, Go to add/remove programs and remove the NVIDIA graphics driver, then go to C:/ NVIDIA and DELETE all the folders within that folder that have numbered folders such as 192.16 and then restart the PC. Then install the latest driver which should be NVIDIA DRIVERS 195.62 WHQL If you are using an NVIDIA chipset motherboard be very careful that you only remove the above or the Ethernet and sound drivers could be lost too
  15. You said that you have tried safemode, but are there any other users that have an account on the PC, if not then you should still be able to access the Admininstator account and do a system restore from there. When it shows his name to log on it should also show the administrator account too
  16. As Maynard has said all the details will be on the underside of the router, BUT someone would have configured the network, you need to access the routers home page in order to set any passwords and if you have not done this, then the engineer that came out would have. There are varying degrees of encryption on routers, if you have to redo the security settings make sure you use WEP as opposed to PSK or anything else as its easier to manage and setup
  17. Says who, EVERYONE adds them between the compound and heatsink, as they give accurate results there.
  18. SPDIF is an optical cable for sound - not that many speakers support it, it's more commonly used on home cinema systems and Xbox 360 and PS3s
  19. I use it with my servers as I can access them through it while out and about so to speak rather than using a lappy. It also allows you to send/receive emails where there is no wireless. It is aimed more at the corporate market, but it has the same functions of an Iphone
  20. If the fan is running at what ypu say 'higher then it was previous' then that is controlled by the BIOS. As you have onboard graphics as well as an add in card, you would need to go into the BIOS and disable the onboard for the add in card to work properly and while you are there set the CPU fan If you are unsure how to do any of this then let us know the MOBO manufacturer and we can help further
  21. Do you know how to update the graphics drivers? Go to control panel and then add/remove programs there will be one called Nvidia display driver uninstall that and then the PC will ask you to reboot, do that and when you log in again install the latest driver from snows link and see if that improves
  22. Sorry it took so long to come back, as Jelly has said they are indeed temperature probes and they are desinged to go under the heatsink and ontop of the CPU, put them on at the same time as the thermal paste if you decide to use them.
  23. can you post a pic please - they sound like these http://www.build-your-own-computer.net/image-files/computer-wiring-01.jpg But they could be anything without a pic
  24. It should still work as Maynard has said. Can you let us know how the printer connects to the PC? or a pic? it could be:- USB Parallel Wireless I would have thought that it is one of the last 2 by your 'ports' comment
  25. its listed as display adapter. you may also have to drop the resolution too - not ideal, but that GPU isnt capable of those games
