  1. You need to go back to basics - when you reinstalled the OS - did you run the MOBO disk too for the chipset drivers? What GPU do you have? did you install the latest drivers from NVIDIA or ATI website? This is all basic stuff, but if you dont do any of it - it causes issues like you have described
  2. Lol - the frog one is good and the other did remind me of lemmings - lemmings was awesome - I saw a T shirt once with lemmings jumping off cliffs and the caption was ''mass suicide rocks'' lol

  5. Overclocking requires the need of extracting the additional heat - you are stumped on a lappy
  6. Dont use driver update sites - they say you need this and that and its rubbish - does it work? most peope its a yes and thats that. Gamers / 'Power Users' :D regularly update the GPU and sound drivers as they have high end components that are still being 'optimised' same with the MOBO drivers. Newer GPU drivers offer increased performance in games as listed in the driver release notes. Normal users - The drivers that are on the original MOBO disk will still be fine (99%) of the time. Unless you have an add in GPU leave the drivers alone

  8. Its a CPU intensive game, adding more RAM will not help as much as you think. You are far better reducing the quality and resolution of the game rather than spending money.

  17. Although Norton is not very good - run a scan and see what it says - normally if it has not detected a Virus upon installation then it wont on scan - but you can try it. Can you right click on the HDD in my computer?
  18. Shrimps, I am not sure what you mean here mate? Do you have a router at your uni flat and you want to use a USB stick to access it?? given your pc knowledge I am guessing you are trying to do something else and I just wanted to clarify before I posted
  19. What size monitor are you trying to run the game with? The spec you have is extremely low - I would have thought you would be lucky to get 1024x768 as a maximum res with all the advanced settings turned off within the game. What speed internet do you have?
  20. Just wanted to add that the drivers you are missing are the most common to be missed - when people reinstall an OS - they forget to run the drivers disk, normally the MOBO disk, but on a laptop its a drivers and utilities disk - when you install or reinstall an OS the driver sequence should always be:- Latest Service pack (if any) MOBO driver disk/drivers and utilities disk (or the latest ones from the manufacturer) GPU drivers (from NVIDIA or ATI website)
  21. Mara, I used to use ROXIO a very long time ago and it was always very 'tempremental' you are much better off with NERO, or you can just use WMP
  22. Hi, Welcome to FPCH :)
  23. When you installed the OS - you should have had the first boot device in the BIOS set to DVDROM - make sure that you change it back to HDD when the OS is installed
  24. It does sound like the refresh rate is set far too high - right click on the dektop and select properties then settings tab - then advanced - then the monitor tab and in the middle is the Refresh rate
  25. If you are using a genuine windows disk then this is not normally asked for as it is activated via the internet.
