  1. Alcohol 120% ISO buster DVD shrink and NERO DVD Decrypter anymore anyone?
  2. I will do this tonight for you :)
  3. You are not going anywhere fast in terms of technology - the best AGP is comparable to a mid range PCI-E card if that makes sense - You are far better buying a newer MOBO that can take a PCI-E card and do it that way, it then means that the next time you come to upgrade you have a few more options available to you.

  8. Lets hope he doesnt take it to someone who guesses RAM voltages  3.3V should do it....................BOOM
  9. GPU Drivers
  10. You want to plug just the green one (front audio) into another device and see if it still occurs. static is not uncommon - try turning the volume on the speakers up and the windows volume down, if it still persists try the other way around :) Also check that they are in 5.1 mode within windows

  12. Glad its all sorted :)
  13. Right - go to control panel and then add/remove programs - remove all the sound drivers. reboot the PC and then install the drivers fresh. should resolve the issue, if not then get a sound card and it will be fine - 128MB of RAM normally indicates the system RAM - depends on how old the game is.
  14. Right - I am confused here too - get him to install CPU-Z and then post what it says on the RAM speeds
  15. You simply dont have the budget for a Quad system - you are going to be looking at a very basic PC for £500-£600 and you need to include a case and an OS in the price too - a case (very basic and a Vista OS are going to take up £100 of your budget straight away. So you can have a PC capable of playing games at 1024x768 or save up more money and then make a system capable of gaming at 1680x1280 Let me know and I will spec whatever you decide. Do you have any components that you could salvage from any other PC's such as PSU, RAM, CASE etc?
  16. All of that series RAM runs at timings of 2-3-2-5 - tell him to adjust in the BIOS - but make sure he doesnt touch the Voltage settings as these run at 2.8-2.9V but their maximum is only 3V so there is no margin there
  17. Thats true about the display angles it does beep though if any of the fans drop below a percentage you set. once you have set the fan speeds on the controller all you need to really look at is the power usage Sorry the pic isnt great - digital camera is out of batteries
  18. Well with an introduction like that I hope I dont disapoint Right - go quad as Polo has said, have a look at the post first build of his, as for MSI, I personally hate MSI and would opt for ASUS anyday. RAM is ok. You have listed an ATA drive - go for SATA as they are faster - 260 GTX is a great card (have one myself) but in terms of value for money at the moment you want an ATI 4870 1GB (these are around £220 now) and blow the 260 away. As for a case have a look at the Antec twelve hundred and yes Vista is far better although its risen in price lately. For £600 you are going to be hard pushed to get a decent gaming rig. you are looking £300 for the CPU, RAM and MOBO therefore cases and GPU's are limited and you cannot house the spec you want in an old beige case. What I would call a mid level gaming rig is easily nearer to £800 If £600 is your absolute limit you are really going to struggle to get a decent gaming PC.
  19. To be honest any fan slot on the MOBO will be fine for the fans - if the CPU fan goes in a port other than the 'cpu fan header' you can get issues. I have a Zalman fan controller and it displays real time power usage :D Its a bit pricey but very, very good Zalman ZM-MFC2 Multi Fan Controller with Display Best Seller - Scan.co.uk NOTE - if you want to plug your CPU fan into this controller - you will need a stanley blade to chop some of the plastic off the arctic freezer 7 fan header
  20. Matt, Most MOBO's will set the voltage required, if anything is out then it will be the timings as these are not always calculated right by the BIOS (this could be because the MOBO needs a BIOS update or anything) what is the MOBO and the RAM? and I will check compatibility
  21. If you are planning on using an add in card then you can disable the onboard sound in the BIOS
  22. Thanks for helping out RP1980 :) as we always say members shoudl try and help out where they can and this is a prime example. RP1980
  23. As you say that you have formatted the laptop you would have deleted all the previous drivers, you will have the drivers on the disk that came with the laptop or windows may pick a driver up for it. Can you tell me the make and model of the laptop and I will try and find the driver on the net for you.
