  1. Hello Gary! Have you tried toggling the Caps Lock key on your keyboard and then entering the username/password? If yes, then what results does it yield? -- Goku
  2. Hello Heckler. Just verify that you haven't added the site by mistake to your Bookmarks. Press Ctrl + B and expand all the entries in the left pane. Look for the Hotmail link and if you find it, right-click on it and select Delete. Restart Firefox and see if it still suggests the entry or not. Let us know how it goes. :) -- Goku
  3. Hello Missknowall. A diskcheck, if that is what is still running at the moment, should not take usually more than 15-20 minutes. Even on very large hard drives, it should be done within an hour I guess. Considering the time of your post when you started the scan, I am afraid to say that the hard drive might be on it's last leg. I am no hardware expert so my guess might be wrong but I cannot think of any other reason why the check disk would take so long. And resetting the router WILL NOT affect the disk check so you can do it as many times as you want. The risk in stopping a check disk, especially when it is running on a bad hard disk, is the probability of loss of data. Even on healthy drives, terminating a check disk prematurely can corrupt the boot sector. On bad hard drives, it almost kills the hard drive! So please whatever you do, DO NOT try and end the check disk unless you absolutely have no other option left. And considerig the circumstances, I must ask if you have backed up your data? -- Goku
  4. Hello Missknowall. :) Looking at your posts, I have a hunch that the problem might be with IE itself rather than the software. If so, please try resetting the settings and see if it helps or not. If that doesn't work, please try running Internet Explorer as Administrator and then run the software. Also, if possible, try reinstalling the software because it might be as simple as a problem of file corruption. In any case, let us know how it goes. Good luck. :) -- Goku
  5. Hello JayCee. Can you please try refreshing the window after a name change and see what results does it yield? -- Goku
  6. Hello Fric. The symptoms you state heavily indicate towards a Malware problem. Hence, I will move this thread into the Malware Removal forums so that you can receive help as soon as one of our Malware experts come online and view this thread. :) Thank you for your patience and co-operation. -- Goku
  7. Hello Jimmy, if you are talking about the big white spaces on either side of the page (on the BBC site), then I think it is the layout. The forum, and most sites, are designed to fit the width of the browser. If you want, you can easily alter the BBC site to fit the width of the browser too. Just go to the BBC site and press Ctrl and the + key at the same time. I have attached screenshots of a before and after version, that I tried on my computer: http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/th.9c6c8c48dd.jpg http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/th.974530561c.jpg Hope that helps. :) -- Goku
  8. Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Jimmy. :) Can you please post a screen shot so that we may understand your problem better? Take a screen shot -- Goku
  9. Thanks for bringing it to our attention Jay. It has been taken care of, thanks to Starbuck. :) Oh and next time if you need to contact, any of the moderators or administrators, you can send them a private message. A list of them is available here. Hope that helps. -- Goku
  10. Hello Vicki. From what I have read, the error that you get points to a faulty hard drive. Can you please describe how your computer behaved before you first encountered the problem? If it is the hard drive, then I am sorry but there is nothing much we can do. Another possible thing is that the recovery disks might be corrupted but that is a long shot. Please answer the above question so that we may narrow down our results. -- Goku
  11. Err ... this may sound stupid but have you tried running the programs as Administrator and then update them? If yes, what results did it yield? -- Goku
  12. Hello and Welcome to FPCH giventake. :) Did you make any recent hardware / software changes before you first encountered the problem? Also, can you please describe the behaviour of the laptop a few days before the laptop died? Await your response. -- Goku
  13. Hello Fifthtexas, can you please tell us the make and model number of your hard drive? Because accordingly, there might be a write protection switch on it which might have been turned on by mistake. If you could list down the specification of the hard drive, we might be able to give you specific instructions to turn it off. :) Hope that helps. -- Goku
  14. As you wish Erik. :) The softwares which provide almost a blanket security against any threat (including zero day ones) are listed below. I know only two but there might be more: Deep Freeze Returnil Essentially these programs freeze the state of the computer it is in. After their security is activated, any changes made manually or automatically, programs installed (legitimately or illegitimately) etc. are undone after a reboot. This can be both advantageous and disadvantageous. Have your pick if you think you need that kind of security. On the other hand, a more flexible and efficient solution can be Sandboxie. It basically does the same thing as the above listed programs but the only difference is that it does it for programs only you say it should. For example, if you receive a suspicious file, you can run it in a sandbox and see what changes does it make. All the changes are lost once the sandbox is closed. So your system is never harmed. And the best part about Sandboxie is that it's free. :) In my opinion, having Sandboxie with a good security suite and safe browsing habits should keep nearly every known threat out. In the end, it's your choice. So customize your options as per your need. Hope that helps. -- Goku
  15. Hello Erik. Most BIOS today have an option of protecting against boot sector viruses. Antiviruses usually aren't very effective against boot sector viruses as they are loaded after POST, at the very earliest. You can try searching in the BIOS for the boot protection option but please don't change any settings there unless you know what they do. There are now much more advanced forms of protection available Erik. I can list them for you if you would like but the problem with them is that they can do worse damage than a virus if gone awry or corrupted. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku
  16. Hello Jim. Sorry I couldn't reply earlier. Actually Firefox has a "memory" when it comes to add ons and themes. The issues that are caused them are often left unresolved long after they are uninstalled. Thus a good way resolve such issues is to give it a fresh start by creating a new profile with default settings. :) You are one reason I still help around mate. Otherwise, I think I would have given up a long time ago. -- Goku
  17. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Erik! :) Enjoy your stay here. -- Goku
  18. Hello Sfevie. I think it is a problem with your Power Management settings. Please try adjusting them according to your needs and see if they make a difference or not. Instructions are available here, if you need them. Hope that helps. -- Goku
  19. Hello and Welcome to FPCH Sfevie. :) Can you please tell us what exactly do you mean when you say the word "streaming". Do you mean buffering a video or something? Please elaborate a bit more in your next post. :) -- Goku
  20. Welcome to FPCH Kanela. :) That is impossible. We are already crazy to the edge. :D Enjoy your stay. -- Goku
  21. Hello Jim. Please try creating a new profile in Firefox and then try and access the site. See if it helps or not. Good Luck. -- Goku
  22. Happy Birthday Doug. No matter how crazy you are, we still love you lol! :D -- Goku
  23. Hello and welcome to FPCH Fran. Could you please take out the battery and re-insert it and see if gets better? From what I have read, it seems like a corruption on the circuit. A trip to the Sony Service Centre might give a better review of what's wrong. :( -- Goku
  24. Hello Helenka. You could give Recuva a shot. :) -- Goku
  25. Hello Aurora. :) Please bear with me as I have no knowledge whatsoever considering video editing. However, I will try my best to help you out. :o Can you please tell us the make and model number of the Handycam? I am sorry Aurora but I don't think I can help you here. These both are video editing softwares that I have never used in my life and hence can't provide an honest comparison review of. I would suggest reading the testimonials and product reviews for a more sharper image of the two softwares. I don't know for sure but according to this link, it does contain an "improved stabilizer effect". :) Sorry I couldn't be of more use. Feel free to ask any more questions you have. -- Goku
