Hello and welcome to FPCH Darkshadow. If you are looking for an alternative to open WinRAR files (*.rar extension) then you might want to look at the suggestions listed here. Personally, I would go for IZArc as it seems to be the most versatile. In the end, its your choice. :) If this is not what you required, then please elaborate a bit more in your next post. We will try to help you to the best of our abilities. -- Goku

Can't find photo being used as wallpaper.
Goku replied to tony1975's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello and Welcome to FPCH Tony. The active wallpaper is not stored as a file anywhere on the computer. So, if you deleted the picture from the original source, it is very unlikely that you are going to get it back. However, there is a way that you can "extract" the wallpaper and save it as a file. For that, simply press Ctrl + Shift + Esc combination and shift to the Processes tab. In there, end the process named "explorer.exe". Now you should be left with a completely blank screen with nothing but the wallpaper. Close the "Task Manager" window and quickly press the Prtsc key on your keyboard. Next, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc again and from the File Menu, select New Task (Run...). Type "explorer.exe" in the Open: field and click on OK. This should bring back the Desktop and the icons. Now open Paint and press the Ctrl + V combination. If done correctly, this should bring up your wallpaper on the Paint window. Save the image by pressing the Ctrl + S combination and then browse to your newly created wallpaper file. :) Let me know if it works or not or if you find the instructions confusing; I will try to make them better. Good Luck. :) -- Goku -

Hello and Welcome to FPCH Electric. :) There could be several reasons for this. Firstly, I hate to tell you but such behaviour is usually exhibited by malware. If it is that, then you must have already started facing a few uncommon symptoms like a slow computer, pop-ups, lags, etc. If that is not the case, then I expect that the Temporary Files folder was cleared somehow taking the file with it. Can you tell us what file you downloaded? If you cannot, then have you tried redownloading the file and saving it instead of opening? Let us know the answers as soon as possible. :) -- Goku

hi i'm new here and need assistance
Goku replied to lilmsusa's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello and Welcome to FPCH Limsusa. :) I checked with the offical Panasonic site and it seems there isn't a driver version available for Windows 7. However, that doesn't mean that we can't get it to work. I have an idea that might just get it to work on your laptop. Download the Panasonic VDR-D200 driver from here. Save the file to your Desktop. After the download has completed, right-click on the setup file and click Properties. Click on the Compatibility tab. Under Compatibility mode, check the box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows Vista from the dropdown menu. http://techreviews.in/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/compatibility2.png Click on Apply and then OK. Double-click on the setup file and install the program. This should probably sort your problem. Let us know if it works or not. Good luck. -- Goku -
Hello and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Smithers. :) Firstly, please do not continue in other people's thread as no two computers are exact same. Therefore what worked for one user might not work for you. Also, it adds to the confusion. I have created a thread for your problem here, so please continue in this one. Thank you for your co-operation. :) This is a very common problem with Windows XP. Please read the article below and try the troubleshooting measures suggested. Computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP Let us know if it helps or not. Good luck. -- Goku

Quacker, I too assume that it is a hard drive problem. Because if it had been malware, you would at least have been able to get past POST. From your post, I gather that you are not able to do so. Also, one of the symptoms of a failing hard drive is a slow PC. It might just be co-incidental but this being a malware problem has a very slim chance. :( I would suggest you to run through any utility that could check the health of a hard drive but it might just do more harm than good. So please wait patiently till one of our hardware experts come online and advise you best. :) By the way, do you have any data on your computer that needs to be saved / retrieved immediately? -- Goku

firefox copying history between portable setups?
Goku replied to aaaach's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello Aaaach. Firefox History is stored in the places.sqlite file. Thus, I don't think you can really merge them into one file. I will try to find a way to do so but don't be too hopeful. -- Goku -
USB devices require non-existent drivers
Goku replied to Greenman999's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ummmm ... I might be wrong here but I think all hardware devices need drivers to operate. From what I make of your post, I gather that Windows does not actually have any problem identifying the device. It just installs the drivers whereas other computers don't, right? Actually, all computers locate and install a driver for USB devices the first time it is inserted. However, if you plug it out and reinsert it, Windows won't install the driver a second time. I probably am missing something here and in the case I am, please elaborate your problem in your next post. :) -- Goku -

Rogue Facebook apps launch 'beach babes' attack
Goku replied to Starbuck's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I have seen a lot of those applications now. And the worst part is that we can't disallow them posting privileges and still use the application. And when you do give it the privileges, the application automatically posts them on your friends walls. I have been lucky to have few friends on Facebook and thus I removed the posts before it could affect anyone but not everyone is as lucky. High time Facebook set some guidelines for applications. -- Goku -
