  1. The enhanced console seems to have an anomaly that I don't like. In PowerShell, with the enhanced console, issue a command that will fill the window, leaving the new prompt at the bottom (IPCONFIG /ALL should work). Now scroll the console window so the prompt is in the middle, vertically). Now press to recall the command. The console automatically scrolls, putting the prompt and recalled command at the bottom. That's annoying. I don't recall any previous Windows console doing that. Can I do anything about it while continuing to use the enhanced console? Thanks. - Vince More...

  3. Sync Settings not available for Windows 10 build 1703 for workplace domain joined desktops After upgrading to Windows 10 Pro creators update (Build 1703) I experienced problems to setup sync settings for Microsoft account oder Business or School account, while the desktop is joined to a local domain. 4. Hi, Could anybody help with this? I am using Microsoft remote Desktop version 10.2.2 on my Mac to connect to the server at work (Windows Server 2016). For the last couple of months it has been continually disconnecting when the connection is idle for anything over 10 minutes which is really frustrating. A message comes up saying that the connection is idle & the Idle timer will disconnect in 2 minutes unless you click to stay connected. I have double checked all settings on my Mac & on the server (others can connect to it no problem & stay connected) & can see nothing at all that would cause it. Does anyone have any ideas?? Thanks More...
  5. Since updating our build to 1803 users are seeing the "Windows Update Status" icon in the taskbar which looks like a computer screen with red exclamation mark. We patch our machines using SCCM in a controlled manner so are happy accepting that machines will not always be up to day 100% of the time, however would like to disable the new warning icon users are seeing. I can't seem to find a gpo which controls it. Does anyone know which does? Or a registry setting which could be used instead? Thanks. MCITP Windows 7 Enterprise Administrator More...

  7. [PLAIN][boot Manager][sOLVED] Fixing UEFI Boot Issues: Black Screen After BIOS POST. Booting Only Possible From BIOS F12 Boot Menu[/PLAIN] Hello, I am having problems with direct booting into Windows 8 installed into a VHDX file. This is a four-partition UEFI boot on a GPT drive. EFI files are residing on a second partition of disk 0 (the ESP partition) in the EFI folder. The boot virtual disk is residing on the fourth partition of that disk 0. When I turn on the PC, it shows black screen after the BIOS POST screen. No Windows 8 boot menu, no other information is displayed. However, if I press Shift+F12 (or F12) to start Dell BIOS Boot Menu and choose Windows Boot Manager from the UEFI part of the boot menu, Windows 8 starts to boot without difficulties. How do I make Windows to boot automatically without having to select Windows Boot Manager in DELL BIOS boot menu? I believe I messed up with boot sector somehow... What needs to be fixed provided that Windows 8 will boot into VHDX file? Thank you. Well this is the world we live in And these are the hands we're given... More...
  8. Hi I've just built a new PC running Windows 8.1 with an SSD main drive and two 4TB HDD’s that I want to use for mirrored storage using Windows RAID. I had this working successfully under Windows 7. I have set one of the 4TB Drives as a dynamic drive partitioned as GPT. When I go in to disc management and right click on that drive (or any other drive) I don’t get the option to “Add Mirror”. Can anyone shed some light on this and suggestions for a possible fix? 10. I want to sideload a windows 8.1 app for all users on a surface tablet. What I was originally doing was running a powershell script as part of a MSI to sideload an app using the Add-AppxPackage command. I have found out that I actually need to install the windows app for all users and from googling, it looks like Add-AppxProvisionedPackage is what I am looking for. However, it seems that this command is designed to modify a windows image or modify the Online (current install) to have this app when a new user is created as the documentation for -PackagePath reads "This package will be added for every new user account." I want the install to add the app to all current users on the machine and to allow new users to have this app as well that log into the machine. How can I do this? More...

  14. When I went to the OneDrive site to restore a file I was asked for a password. I entered the password that I use to logon to Windows. The site said no thanks. That is the only password that I used when setting up Windows 8.1 and OneDrive. To reset the password the OneDrive site asked for previous passwords and email addresses of people that I sent email, none of which I had since I had never changed the password and never used the Microsoft email account to send email. Any ideas about this problem or should I stop using OneDrive? More...

  17. Note: I tried posting this on MS support site 3 times (2 different browsers) and it hangs and won't post. So I hope it works here... Until yesterday, when I had to move the Windows Xbox Wireless receiver for Windows unit to another USB port, it worked for 2 years, no problem. Now, no matter how many fixes I try, it will not connect the wireless controller. Here's what I tried (many times) Switched ports Changed controller batteries (12 different, brand new batteries) Different controller(s) Removed, all not essential USB devices, etc, keyboard and mouse Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver (from the CD and 4 different locations [all the same installer]) Moved the receiver within inches of the controller Tried to use the connect button on the bottom of the receiver different ways (hit it once, hold it for up to 30 seconds, hold it once, then release it, then hold it again (that makes the controller green circle blink faster for about 10 seconds). Hold the connect button on the controller until the circle lights rotate from 1,2,3,4 (over and over in all of the above steps). Made sure I had all the latest windows updates And the "one" fix that worked for everyone I read, that didn't for me because the controller never shows under device manager, or add device to your computer, it showed as "Unidentified Device" for all of them, and I never get any unknown device. Here are their steps "Right click on Computer Go to Properties Click on Device Manager Right click on the Unidentified Device (This doesn't show up for me) Go to Properties Go to the Drive tab Click on Update Driver… Browse my computer for driver software Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009] Update Driver Warning Click Yes" I am at a loss. I cannot believe it suddenly died when moving it from one port to another, especially when it makes the green controller circle flash faster after holding the connect button on the bottom of the wireless controller.
