Hi there. I read earlier today about Win10 v1709 now having a built-in SSH client available (still in beta but listed in 1709) and I wanted to give that a try. I went to Settings > Manage optional features > Add a feature > OpenSSH Client (Beta). Adding the feature fails with error 0x800F0954. I've been able to find very little about that error message other than it seems to come up with version 1709 and possibly WSUS. I am trying this on Win10 Enterprise x64 v1709, domain-joined. Event Viewer does show the following: Event 1001, Windows Error Reporting Fault bucket , type 0 Event Name: CbsPackageServicingFailure2 Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: 10.0.16299.96 P2: OpenSSH-Client-Package P3: 10.0.16299.15 P4: amd64 P5: unknown P6: 800f0954 P7: CBS Other P8: Absent P9: Absent P10: SystemSettings Attached files: These files may be available here: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportQueue\Critical_10.0.16299.96_1f56230eb29b797f87e391de3e956ad2d3043_00000000_37aa270a Analysis symbol: Rechecking for solution: 0 Report Id: af3c21d3-1ced-4661-812b-60a5851ff56b Report Status: 4 Hashed bucket: The above location was empty, but I did find a related file in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WER\ReportArchive\Critical_10.0.16299.96_1f56230eb29b797f87e391de3e956ad2d3043_00000000_3a8821d9, shown below. All of our domain users have roaming profiles and redirected folders, which includes redirected of the AppData(Roaming) folder. All users have Windows 10 1803. We've been on 1803 for several months. We apply Windows Updates to workstations on a weekly basis, so all are up-to-date. Starting on 10/15/2018, all users that attempt to open Microsoft Sticky Notes will receive the following error: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". In the title bar of the error, you see the path as the AppX path: "C:\Program files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes_3.0.118.0_x64_8wekyb3d8..." However, Sticky Notes still opens normally afterwards, and all existing sticky notes are present. But the error occurs the next time users open Sticky Notes. They can work around by just closing the error, but we do not want this as a permanent solution. http://computerhelp.community/core/ajax/apidetach/cron/run With a test user account that has a Roaming Profile, but does NOT have redirected AppData(Roaming) folder, Sticky Notes opens just fine without any error. So I suspect this is an issue specifically with AppData(Roaming) being redirected. I have tried the GPO setting: "Allow deployment operations in special profiles" set to ENABLED (under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > App Package Deployment). Unfortunately, that doesn't make any difference. What is odd is that this started happening only this week and Sticky Notes has been working fine in Windows 10 for several months. Any ideas are appreciated. More...

For some reason none of the users on a Windows 10 1607 are able to change the desktop wallpaper. The problem can be reproduced for both existing and new profiles. When users log on they get a black back ground and when they try to personalize the desktop they switch the background from solid color to Picture and click on any of the available (default) backgrounds, however the desktop image does not change and remains black. C:\Users\UNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\CachedFiles contains a CachedImage_1920_1200_POS4.jpg file which is a solid black background. If we delete the file it comes back. This is a domain computer and there is no group policy preventing users from changing the desktop background. Under Ease of Access Show Windows Background is Enabled. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Right clicking on any image and selecting set as desktop wallpaper does not change background. https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/1359798 https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/getfile/1359799 More...

We use the %logonserver% for mapping the location of user roaming profiles and mapped drives. When a workstation updates to 1809 the workstation cannot find the user's roaming profile and cannot map drives. If the workstation is reverted back to 1803 everything works. If you check the workstation's variables "Logonserver" is a listed variable and the correct server is associated with that variable. More...

When the latest Windows 10 cumulative update corrupted the Wifi driver on a Surface Pro 3, I decided to do a factory reset. I allowed the reinstall to keep the user settings. When the OS came back up, the login screen only allowed the selection of a few limited users (guest accounts used for field data collection) -- access to "other users" and thus any administrative accounts is unavailable. The local Administrator account was disabled but I had added a Microsoft account -- protected by a PIN -- as an administrator. I can open Computer Management and see this account, I just can't get the Surface's login screen to allow me to type the name in. When I try to enable the Administrator account, the UAC prompt gives me no options to enter administrative credentials. The only option is "No". More...

Is there a fix for Windows 10 1803 not creating cookies, unless the user is set as local administrator. Not set to delete files when closing IE 11, issue occurs in all browsers, Chrome, IE 11, and Edge. No cookies are created in the C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache folder even though other files are being saved there. Windows 10 1803 Enterprise More...

Note: I tried posting this on MS support site 3 times (2 different browsers) and it hangs and won't post. So I hope it works here... Until yesterday, when I had to move the Windows Xbox Wireless receiver for Windows unit to another USB port, it worked for 2 years, no problem. Now, no matter how many fixes I try, it will not connect the wireless controller. Here's what I tried (many times) Switched ports Changed controller batteries (12 different, brand new batteries) Different controller(s) Removed, all not essential USB devices, etc, keyboard and mouse Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest driver (from the CD and 4 different locations [all the same installer]) Moved the receiver within inches of the controller Tried to use the connect button on the bottom of the receiver different ways (hit it once, hold it for up to 30 seconds, hold it once, then release it, then hold it again (that makes the controller green circle blink faster for about 10 seconds). Hold the connect button on the controller until the circle lights rotate from 1,2,3,4 (over and over in all of the above steps). Made sure I had all the latest windows updates And the "one" fix that worked for everyone I read, that didn't for me because the controller never shows under device manager, or add device to your computer, it showed as "Unidentified Device" for all of them, and I never get any unknown device. Here are their steps "Right click on Computer Go to Properties Click on Device Manager Right click on the Unidentified Device (This doesn't show up for me) Go to Properties Go to the Drive tab Click on Update Driver… Browse my computer for driver software Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer Microsoft Common Controller for Window Class Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1349 [8/13/2009] Update Driver Warning Click Yes" I am at a loss. I cannot believe it suddenly died when moving it from one port to another, especially when it makes the green controller circle flash faster after holding the connect button on the bottom of the wireless controller. Hi All, I have been looking on the internet but can't find anything useful. I protected data on my USB flash drive using Bitlocker in Windows. But of course I can't access it inside Apple OS X operating system. Yes I have a Windows VM running inside my MacBook and can access bitlocked flash drive this way, but this requires booting up Window VM and becomes frustrating most of the time. Does anyone know any possible way to access bitlocked flash drive directly inside OS X? If the answer is "No", then my request to Microsoft is to please make a Bitlocker Reader/Access tool for Mac OS X and make everyone's life easy. This will definitely increase number of Bitlocker users; a win-win situation! Thanks More...

It seems that the packages of .Net Framework - Update KB4340558 - are damaged (wrong or missing hashes). Install fails with error 0x80092004 on Windows 8.1 clients and Windows Server 2012 R2. Also KB 4054566 (Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2) seems affected. I've now round about 10-20 confirmations around the world. One user found a log entry: “Couldn’t find the hash of component: NetFx4-PenIMC” So I guess, the package is damaged/botched internally. I summed it up with the blog post .Net Framework: Update KB4340558 drops error 0x80092004?. Guess MS need to have a look into the package. Gru?/greetings G. windows 8.1 pro account problems
BetaTime posted a topic in Microsoft Products Support & Discussions
I'm using a laptop with windows 8.1 pro. The user is logged in to the domain with restricted access. The problem is that whenever i try to run a program as admin, i don't see the login window (that usually pops out in such cases). Running as admin does nothing. Also if i try to change some settings (network, printers etc) i get a message that i can't have access (without the option of logging in as admin) I need to log out and login as admin so that i can work and that is frustrating and time consuming. That doesn't happen in other machines that are joined to the domain. How can i solve this problem? More... -

I've reset and reinstalled my windows many time after that and nothing has changed. More...
