Does anyone have a favorite Bit torrent site they use? Paolo recommended using BitTorrent in an earlier post.. I'd love to try it out, now that I've downloaded the client. I just need a place to start looking.. I seem to recall SOMETHING like rss-tv.net, but I doubt that's the real link (it seems a little phishy, if you know what I mean..) More... I'm curious if Microsoft can successfully market a product now. I don't mean to suggest that MS's marketing skills are horrible or anything, or maybe they are, I don't know. My main interest is if you can advertise the name "Microsoft" with any degree of success today, no matter how much money is thrown into a fancy poster and bikini-clad women. I mean, is the name just exhausted in the tech-world where the average lifetime of a successful organization is a matter of years? I look at Appe who just pops and "i" infront of whatever, and all of a sudden, "iChecks" start showing up. Yet they're pretty juvenile, only getting really popular in the last few years, unlike Microsoft. Maybe Bill should start a new company, get another name out there? I met a guy in Tennessee a year back or so who owns two companies, both are in competition with the other, and the public has no idea. He sits back and rakes in the cash, because he has multiple faces. Dunno how great of a business plan this is, but it seemed to have worked for him. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

It's nice to write clean code (code that looks good, is organized, is easy for others to understand by reading it, etc). As developers we get to use great tools to implement algorithms in our favorite languages. The act of composing a program is much like that of writing a story or, in some cases, a poem :) But the underlying hardware isn't much interested in intelligent class hierachies and easy-to-understand lines of programming language syntax. Processors do not speak C++ or Java or C# or VB, etc. The focus of this interview is that of mapping the path to executable code that the machine understands and acts on in, bringing your code to life. How does this work, exactly? Russell Hadley is a senior developer on the C++ team here at Microsoft and he spends his days (and nights, ocassionally) writing code that takes the front-end compilation goop and turns it into highly optimized machine code that the processor can execute in a highly efficient manner. This is a deep interview with lots of whiteboarding, but it is shallow of enough so you won't drown if you can't swim very well. Enjoy. This is another great conversation with one of the C++ experts who lives in Building 41. The Information Security Consolidated Event Management (ICE) system is a more than 30-terabyte data warehouse used by the Microsoft Information Security team to analyze network utilization events captured by various sources, including over 100 proxy servers, mail servers, Net logon servers, etc.* The ICE database processes approximately 1 terabyte of log data each day and it has become a key component in the incident response process, in addition to forensics investigations.* Analysis of the proxy data has empowered the Microsoft Information Security team to identify and remediate numerous security issues that would have gone undetected otherwise.* ICE version 4.0 is an ambitious project set to deliver almost real-time data and high-query performance to the security team using Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Moreover, ICE 4.0 is also designed to perform all sorts of data filtering and transformation during the data-loading process, so the schema of data stored in ICE is tailored for investigation analysis/reporting needs.* An Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) cube is built on top of the ICE data warehouse to facilitate aggregated queries.** Join this session to learn how enhancements to the Microsoft SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) 2008 dataflow engine have significantly improved the performance of loading, filtering and transforming 1 terabyte of network log data into the ICE data warehouse. Eric Ostrowski - Your Show Host and TechNet Radio Producer Joy Qiao - Joy Qiao is a software development engineer in cross-IT (XIT) team in Microsoft IT China. She is the technical architect for the ICE4.0 project. Before joining MSIT, Joy was a BI architect on the Microsoft Service Team.* She led various multi-terabyte data warehouse projects for major MS customers such as Huawei and China Telecom. Joy has rich experience in designing and implementing large scale data warehouse solutions using Microsoft SQL server. Ok, I'm a happy American: American Gladiators taped. I got to see Crush's Longer Hair. I got to see Zen, the hyperactive new Gladiator. While I miss Mayhem, It's good to see last years winners out ther: Jet and Rocket. My woe isn't the new events. It's the audio that was taped. It was slightly "out of sync" from the video. It's streaming wirelessly, but it's got 100% signal at 54mbs. It plays back on the computer out of sync, so I don't think it's a transfer rate issue. I'm running a Quad-Core Dell XPS system with 4Gb Ram and a 768 Mb Video Card. So, it's likely not a quality of equipment issue. Could me running other programs while this is recording cause the problem? I was running the LOTRO MMORG in directX 10 mode. Any thoughts would be welcome, unless it's the "start watching real programming" comments. Gimme a break: the next discs of MI-5 / Spooks isn't shipping for a couple of days. EDIT: Sorry, the links all go to Crush.. Which isn't THAT bad of a thing.. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

As googling around didn't come up with anything useful, here's how I got this*D-Link DWL-G122 B1 USB wireless stick working in Vista 64 bit. At the moment the D-Link driver package didn't seem to do the trick. From here: http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Windows.html Get the driver that says RT2500 under the version: http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/drivers/IS_AP_STA_7x_D-1.2.3.0_VA-3.1.1.0_2500_D-2.1.1.0_VA-3.1.0.0_RU-2.0.4.0_VA-2.0.4.0_AU_1.2.1.0_VA-1.0.4.0_101707_0.1.0.29.exe Install it, if it doesn't work immediately like with me, go to device manager and update the driver manually, select "let me pick from a list..", "have*disk...", point it to*Program Files (x86)\RALINK\RT7x Wireless LAN Card\Driver and browse the different available ones for "RT2500 USB Wireless LAN Card". This will force install of the driver using netr7064.sys (v 3.1.0.0 on package above). Then if you want the included tool to work, go to Program Files (x86)\RALINK\RT7x Wireless LAN Card\Utility\RaUI.ini and edit it adding under [RT2500USB] * DeviceID_23=USB\VID_2001&PID_3C00 where 23 is the highest number. keywords: USB\VID_2001&PID_3C00&REV_0001 USB\VID_2001&PID_3C00 D-Link DWL-G122 B1 More...
