  3. Hi, I was having a look around and can't seem to find a calendar plugin for Sharepoint Server 2007. Just wondering if anyone knows of one available or if there is one? I think I can sync it up to Outlook (2007) but would rather it all just sitting on the server. Any suggestions would be appreciated. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  5. Just saw this : http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/02/26/1859249 ...Tetris Creator Claims FOSS Destroys the Market : "In an interview conducted last week with Consumer Eroski (link in Spanish; Google translation), the father of Tetris Alexey Pajitnov claimed that 'Free Software should have never existed,' since it 'destroys the market' by bringing down companies that create wealth and prosperity. When asked about Red Hat or Oracle's support-oriented model, he called them 'a minority,' and also criticized Stallman's ideas as 'belonging to the past' where there were no software 'business possibilities." FINALLY someone "dares" to speak out against the mob community of free software. I'm so happy right now, it made my day! :) More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  10. i was attempting to write a program that would use UPnP API in windows to set port forwarding in the home router for mIRC to get the DCC function to work.* after sever times i got an authentication/impersonation error that i could not work out i gave up on it for now. but now my UPnP in vista no longer can see any UPnP devices on my network. the media center PC can still see everything. does anyone know how to reset the UPnP support in vista? turning off network discovery in the network center and turning it back on does not help. thank you. 11. I am using SQL Server 2000. when I am querying data from following query it gives an error. Query: select * from SaleMain where dateinfo='2008-02-25' error: Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1 The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value. And occour the same error for : select * from SaleMain where dateinfo=cast('2008-02-25' as datetime) But when I am using this query it works: select * from SaleMain where dateinfo=cast('2008-02-24 00:00:00.000' as datetime) And then I try this query and works fine:* select * from SaleMain where dateinfo=cast('2008-02-25' as datetime) And also this query works after that: select * from SaleMain where dateinfo='2008-02-25' Actually I am amazed with this functionality. And I have experience in this type of adhoc behavior for datetime in earlier also. Can anyone please tell me, is there any sure and a very accurate way*of writing these type of queries those are using datetime values. :) More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  12. One of the requests that comes up a lot here is that niners be allowed to submit questions for Microsoft folks to answer in the videos that are produced for Channel 9. Next week at MIX08 (assuming the camera gear and laptop get through customs undamaged!)* I'm going to be doing a bunch of video podcasts and, touch wood, interviewing some of the folks whose names have come up in the past whenever this subject of "Niner questions" has come up. Time will be limited and I've got a whole bunch of my own questions I want to be putting to interviewees on top of quick "sound bite" summaries of whatever news/announcements come out of MIX but if you've got burning questions you'd like me to put forward please post them here as responses to this post and I'll do my best in the time I've got available. So who am I likely to interview? I've provisionally got agreement from Scott Guthrie (who I want to talk to about Silverlight 2, MVC framework, "Unity" Ioc and the perceived Microsoft movement to support ALT.NET developers as well as the traditional MSDN.NET developers), Scott Hanselman (who I want to talk to about MVC Framework and his whole ALT.NET philosophy) and Adam Kinney (who I want to talk to about Silverlight and perhaps Channel 9 too if I don't get to interview Jeff). Hopefully more interviewees will follow (I'm also gunning for*Chris Wilson but have absolutely no guarantees yet that I'll get to talk to him.) and if there's anyone you REALLY REALLY want to hear from that you know will be at MIX08 let me know. So.... there's been a lot of whinging in the past about not being able to submit questions*ahead of*time for interviewees so*now's your chance and I'll see what I can do. Between the C9 team*working the event and myself we'll hopefully get the answers to questions you guys say you've been wanting to ask. Cheers, Ian More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  13. We have occassion to automatically*update a piece of software which runs on XP.* Our update method works great on Win2K as the software checks to see if it should be updated, and if it does, it automatically downloads the update and installs it.* Easy.* OK, now a non admin user is running our software on XP, they do not have Admin rights on that local computer, so they can't write to the Program Files directory.* Our update fails, and we look like amatures. We don't have much control over how the computer is set up.* Is there a way we can tell XP to let us write to the Program Files directory regardless of who the current user is?* We wrote an update service, which needs to be installed by an admin, but it has other problems. Suggestions? Thanks Much, More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  15. So after having watched a few of Scott Stanfield's LINQ videos, I'm excited to get my hands dirty with some LINQ. I want to understand best practices about how LINQ would be used in a complex application.* In some of the videos, Scott shows how you can hook into the OR-generated classes for tasks such as data validation by creating a partial class and implementing a partial method. What are the general guidelines for adding business logic?* Is it a bad idea to just extend the generated classes and add biz logic? Or should you create separate modules as a separate layer to encapsulate the logic? I suspect the answer is "it depends" but I'd love to hear a discussion of what y'all have learned from implementing LINQ so far. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
