Help needed installing a sata pci card
DirtyPolo replied to Deanw1973's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I believe he means actually back it up as an xbox 360 has a harddrive similar to PC, as in it saves games, music, files info etc. I would generally guess he means back up everything like that? Not sure though. -
HA!, I hope he does, I'd love to see an exploding RAM stick :P But yeah I'll have to wait to hear back from him :P
-
I think he's given his pc to someone to try sort it out already, if it doesn't work I'll get him to install CPU-Z and post the RAM speeds for you, I should know in a few days if he's going to need more help or not :P

no :P as they plug into my pc with 3 wires, the front speakers, sub woofer and rear speakers, and I dont have anything else that takes 3 or an adaptor to make it into one, and it happens so occasionally that i couldnt test each set individually because its such a random occurrence :(

okay, apparently it says the voltage should be 2.1V? I'm not sure where he got that from i'll ask him now, thanks a lot Dalo :P EDIT: He said that the BOIS/Mobo set it at 2.1 automatically? is that right? should they still be changed to 2.8? Also here, on ebuyer it states the supply voltage should be 2.1V and on the OCZ website it says 2.1V and it says the timings should be 4-4-4-15 as he said it already was heres the link to the OCZ website for his RAM okay im so confused... the link above takes you to the same RAM as the one hes got but it talks about ATI corssfire, yet his RAM and the packaging dont mention ATI but this link takes you to the same RAM, but the timings and voltages are different? :S and just doesn't mention ATI :S confusing i'll let you reply Dalo im too confused :P I told him to not do anything till we understand exactly because I dont :P

I seem to be making more threads than I can keep up with :P I have only just noticed but with my new speakers I bought for this PC, Logitech X-530 5.1 I get an occasional "POP" or "crack" emitting from them, it could be when music is playing or even if theyre silent, just a random pop or crack, any idea why? they are set up correctly and plugged in securely.

Oh okay, and dont worry it's good enough to make out what it is :P I might look into that then, as I will only need to set the speed once i guess :P Just make sure it's about 700RPM as thats their max speed and the ones running at 650 now are still silent as ever

I will advise you to get a quad core CPU as if you are looking for the latest games, they are beginning to use the multi-core technology, especially quad core, such as farcry 2 and Quatum of Solace. But as Beeceebee says, wait for Dalo, he's a great help and knows what he's talking about :P
-
Ooo yes, I was looking at this one before :P the only problem I read about it, was that unless you're looking at it from head-on it's completly unreadable? and as my pc is on the floor below my desk, would that then be pointless?
-
I'll ask him now, but I know it's an Asus P5N-D mobo and 4gb of OCZ ram, i'll take a look from where he got it and see if I can find the exact type. I cant find it on ebuyer anymore, but it's 800Mhz and it's in 4 sticks of 1gb, he will tell me the exact type when he gets home later today. EDIT: His mobo is an Asus P5N-D and his RAM is: OCZ 2Gb kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 Platinum XTC and he has 2 of those to make 4GB

No problem :P it's a good community that we need to encourage others to join it :) guests can read for help but they will all know something that other members may not! :) it's always good to help :D and thankyou for the comment about the thread, I hope it does come in handy for others as I have asked a lot fo questions throughout my build :P I'm happy to help others in anyway I can, I guess this thread almost makes up for my lack of knowledge about other things :D

It's a pretty old thread I know, but just updating to say the pictures have finally been uploaded and linked in my signature :P

he cant, he doesn't have an internet connection at his house :( he has to do a lot through me, such as giving the latest drivers for his pc through my memory stick lol :D

My friend has just built a PC, well had someone build it for him, but it kept randomly blue screening on him, so he asked what could be wrong and this guy who built it for him said it could be a RAM fault, so they checked each individual stick of ram, none of which worked... so he decided to send them back and get a replacment, but then this guy [who i do not like :P] said for a last try, he will put the RAM back in and play around with the RAM voltage settings to see if he can make it work, he seems sure that theres a problem with the RAM voltage. Am I right in thinking that if it's all standardly built with no OC'ing, there shouldnt be a problem with it and nothing will need changing? what harm could he do by messing with the RAM voltages? just so I know what to warn my friend he might need to replace after this guys "attempt". he has 4x1GB sticks of OCZ, not sure exact type, a P5-K mobo, E8600 CPU and windows XP 32bit. He's thinking of passing it over to me if it doesn't get fixed so I kind of need na idea of what I could do to get it working or does it just need a whole new set of RAM?
-
yeah okay :P can you find me any decent ones? i can only find a few different ones and not many have good reviews :( I'll leave my fans as they are so thats 1 side fan, 1 front fan, 1 top fan, and the rear exhaust fan :P I would like to see the RPM and temperature [maybe] :P so I know what speed they're generally at instead of going by sound or temp changes. also for now, i have plugged the top fan into the PWR_Fan socket, which i'm guessing doesnt do any harm? just to stop the slow RPM alarm going off everytime i startup :) I read the CPU fans normally go in there but my CPU fan is in the CPU fan slot :P but unusually, this PWR_Fan slot is only for 3 pin? I thought they were for 4pin?
-
okay thanks Dalo :P Yeah I should get some pics today! I have a whole day off college and my brother's camera all ready to go :) also, if I was going to replace one of my fans with 4 smaller ones, is there a way to use a fan controller to control them all at once? so I dont have to find like an 8 speed fan controller just-in-case i decide to change them.

Hey, I know i've brought this up nagain, but to make it easier for myself, as the BIOS and utility programs list them as "fan 1-4" i never know which fan is which so I swapped them round today so i know which fan is which now. but when i start up my pc, as usual it all starts and the fans are fine but I open BIOS and it now says Fan 2 isnt connected, yet its happily spinning away... and that fan 3 is below reccommended RPM and fan 4 doesnt even exist :S Ive check the plugs and theyre in properly, is this a faulty mobo of some sort? and as for pics, they were gonna be taken today but my brothers camera battery is dead so it's charging now! :D and the program I use to monitor fan speed is the BIOS and Asus PC Probe II. EDIT: I havew taken the case off and played around with the fans and it seems sockets for Fan 2 and 3 are not giving enough power out as when i plug the front fan into either, it keeps trying to start up but never does, and same with the top fan, it also doesnt send any readings of speed at all... and the problem with my plug for fan 3, it also doesnt give enough power but more than fan 2, because no matter what fan i put in it, it runs them at about 450RPM :S and as for fan 4 not even registering.. any help? =/ is it motherboard problem?
-
Yeah, and I am :P Just waiting for a camera to use, I don't have my own so I need to borrow someone else's, maybe my brother's or dad's. They WILL come though :)
-
oh okay, thanks :P I didn't know about that :P I thought it would be instantly better than just doing that lol :) and I have the latest version of it anyway xD Maybe because i've OC'd, I saw some posts complaining it didnt work on OC'd machines. I'll just do your idea instead :)

Just a kind of update on this problem of mine, my computer acted very strangely today... I was about to go to sleep so I decided to give this AI Nap another try so it could continue to download through the night, so I opened the AI suit, and clicked on AI Nap, and it asked me if I wanted to enter AI Nap, so I clicked yes. Next thing I know, my PC instantly restarts and brings me to the screen complaining that windows wasnt shut down correctly and what would I like to do, aka, safe mode or start normally... This is weird, even for a PC :P I have checked all the settings and they are as they should be, regarding the power switch options etc.
-
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas about this problem? XD it does annoy me sometimes :P I wish I had it working :D
-
Lol okay :P It was still the same when it was at stock speed though, as I said it's not a big problem, just happy to know it's not something to be concerned about :D And I haven't noticed the change in the count, but then again I don't pay attention until I see my desktop :P
-
Hey this isnt a big problem, but it gets quite annoying, with my new PC that I ahve just built, sometimes, well, most time, when I press the power switch, first of all, there can sometimes be a delay of upto 3 seconds, before anything happens, and at other times, it's instant. Also, sometimes the HDD and power lights come on, the fan starts but then 1/2 a second later, it all stops and goes off again. Any idea why? It's kind of like, it's not getting enough power to start up correctly everytime...
