  1. Are you sure that is the correct error code jacamo? And as it says it occurred in drive D, which should be your Disk drive, I am not sure that it is a hard drive fault. Did you not search on how to install another OS before attempting it?
  2. I will strongly recommend my mobo as it is great for large GPUs as I have seen with other Asus boards the SATA ports are positioned so that if you have a long GPU, it covers 4/6 of the SATA ports, but the way the P5K Premium is built, the SATA ports are at the very end of the board and rotated to use less space, leaving them uncovered by the GPU. You can pick this board up for around £110 It also has WiFi built in so no need for a wireless card. Another alternative, which also has WiFi [coincidence, as I am looking for boards with a well placed SATA and port design] is the Asus P5Q Deluxe or even the P5QC These are all priced around £100-£150 depending where you look. some options in the lower range from your £65 -£100 you have the option of P5QL Pro which is about £70 Or the P5Q SE2 which can be found for about £80
  3. How much are you willing to pay for a mobo? I'll look now and get a few choices at various prices for you
  4. Thanks for the input Dalo :) Shows I'm still learning from the Master, all valid points that I did not follow on my build :( Still need to get a backup HDD lol... But thanks again :) take note Prodda, this is the Guru I get all my knowledge from :D
  5. that's only with RFID I believe it is called, I'm sure those are the letters but I don't know which way round they go :P but that is not used with creditcards or debit cards, it's the technology that is being developed to allow you to buy things with everyday objects like using your mobile phone to scan your way through a train ticket gate or top up your phone by swiping it over a machine etc.
  6. Isn't that just Space Invaders barry?
  7. It has to be PC, eventhough I do own a PS2, PSP and a PS3 and my brother has an Xbox 360, I prefer the PC to all, I do play more on the PS3 but that's because it's the newest thing I have so I am addicted to it but I will always end up reverting to my PC for games :) But Sega Mega Drive or C64, I agree are very good what about the SNES?!?!?!
  8. Ah okay, all good advice though! I think I will uninstall them when I get to that PC tonight. Do you think there could be any problems happen if these are uninstalled. In other words, would any devices rely on these SP2 hotfixes that are still on the PC? Or would SP3 have included updated versions of them? Just thinking of all the questions linked to this topic, I know you don't have any technical sources, just asking for interest.
  9. well the Arctic freezer 7 Pro is the cooler I have on my PC as you have probably seen, and I am running a Q6600 overclocked to 3.3 GHz, and the temperatures have yet to exceed 50 degress under full load and in benchmark tests, so yes I would highly recommend that cooler, especially as the case you are looking at is a Midi case so you would not have as much sapce as a full size tower such as the HAF or Antec 1200. As for cases, you also probably saw that the CM 690 was my original choice of case as I do like that case even now :) The only concern I would have for you, is that the HD4870 is not a small GPU, it is about 9.5" long, but syaing that, I have seen someone fit a GTX 260 into that case and that is over 10" long, so yes the HD4870 should fit, you may have to move a HDD around or so but it will fit, but bear in mind it takes up two expansion slots :P the CM 690 is bigger than the Antec equivilent of the 300 by about 3cm in each direction. and the website states: "Roomy interior supports nVIDIA GeForce 8800 ULTRA SLI configuration" and as the 8800 is much bigger than a 4870 at 10.5", then it is a given "yes" that it will fit :) Out of the two I would personally opt for the Cooler Master as it also has the capacity to have upto 7 x 120mm fans that will provide more than enough cooling, my HAF only has 3 main fans and an exhaust fan and it's keeping the temps down well without much effort. But overall it is really down to personal choice :) we're just here to help give you and let you know all of the best options :)
  10. Does it make a difference if you keep them or delete them Goku? I've never heard of deleting old SP2 files so I'm just curious as if it DOES make any difference I will certainly do so on my XP PC :)
  11. Hey James, I'm guessing by this you mean 2 CD drives and not 2 Hard Drives as I think Wolfey thought you meant. Please can you post us the spec of your system and make sure to include both of these two CD drives, if that's what they are :) Thanks.
  12. Here is a list of different shortcuts that you can use in Windows XP, and some work in Vista aswell. They can either be used by clicking on "start", then "Run..." and typing in the command, Or alternatively, open Task Manger with "Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Del" or you can use "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Esc" as a quicker way of ppening Task Manager, click on "File", then "New Task (Run...)" which will bring up a box allowing you to type in the same commands as if it was the Run box. Here is the list, if you find any that do not work, or find ones that are not in the list and should be, feel free to PM me with the title of "XP Shortcut List" Note: Only use these commands if you are sure of what they do, some can be harmful if used without knowledge of the results! 13. That setup looks fine, the only thing I will say is if you can, swap that board to maybe a P5QL Pro or similar. what is your budget for a board? that case is okay, it's really down to individual opinion, as Dalo Loves Antec cases, I love cooler master cases, and so on, what is your budget for a case? and I can try find alternatives for you to consider. another thing I will say is that, that CPU cooler you have chosen is very large and so MAY cause a tight squash with a small case like that. let me know your individual budget if you want to and I can try find alternatives for you to consider if you would like to. But all in all that setup does seem fine. I would also say to looka round the forum at other builds, I will recommend mine in particular as I had the same kind of objectives as to performance and my budget was £800. Here's my thread. it's a long-ish read but it covers lots of questions to do with this kind of build :)
  14. I have looked everywhere for you and have failed to find any such drivers or software for this webcam, as there i no website or anything at all! so I am afraid that the answer is to buy another webcam, preferably one that exists :P or is well know, easy to get drivers from or other help. that is, unless anyone else can find the drivers or software you need.
  15. Has that fixed the problem though? as your XP machine might still need that update to let it see the other machines etc, Let us know if your problems are fixed or not, Thanks.
  16. Hey prodda, the Q6600 is a very good CPU and very good at overclocking compared to the other Quad cores. as for the GPU, yes there is a better ATI alternative, I'm not sure what price you found the GTX 260 at but ATI have the HD4870 This can be found for around £190 for the 512MB version or £210 for the 1GB version. as the GTX 260 is about £215. [From ebuyer.com] if you google for reviews of both cards you will see the ATI outdoes the Nvidia everytime, example; here and also the memory is a big giveaway of the extra performance, with the ATI using GDDR5 and the Nvidia using GDDR3 Hope this helps :)
  17. Okay well if your product is an OEM version then I would not advise using the method posted previously to fix your problem and wait for an alternative fix.
  18. Have you done step 5 of those instructions?: 5) At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line: md tmp copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak delete c:\windows\system32\config\system delete c:\windows\system32\config\software delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam delete c:\windows\system32\config\security delete c:\windows\system32\config\default copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default if you have done all this and then type exit which will close it down and your computer will restart Then you continue on to Step Two which is below Step One on that website. Just continue to follow those instructions until you have done everything and then report back to us with the results :)
  19. Can you please continue this in your original thread about your problem, as the topic of ISO images has now expired if you start asking us what to do with regards to fixing your PC, Thanks and I'll take a look for you now. I'll copy your above post to your original thread.
  20. Okay, glad to hear the problems are now fixed :) Are there anymore problems that you still need fixes for?
  21. at the bottom of that article, it says: "To work around this issue, use one of the following methods. Method 1 If you have multiple disks installed, and the disk on which the $TxfLog file is corrupted does not contain Windows Vista, remove the offending disk from the computer. Method 2 If you have only one disk installed, and if you have access to Windows XP or Windows 2000 installation media, restart the computer by using the Windows XP or Windows 2000 installation media. Next, format the offending disk, and then reinstall Windows Vista." that means if you have access to your windows XP CD. Do you?
  22. So am I correct in reading that you are using an OEM version of windows on your non-working system? If so then the problem is that with OEM versions it may create unknown passwords and or user names, which may end up with you not being able to log back into your account afterwards.
  23. Okay, to change the height of the task bar, unlock it and then move one of the dotted verticle lines, either for the quick launch or something else, up to the top line of the taskbar, and then drag the top of the taskbar down as if normally resising it Also, what version of Opera are you running?
  24. Taskbar Okay, to solve your taskbar problem try these steps: -Right click desktop -Select "Properties" -Select "Appearance" -Select "Advanced" -In drop down menu select "active titlebar" -Set it to 25 -Click "Ok" To change the taskbar size, rightclick it and it should say "lock taskbar" this should not be ticked, if so, click it to untick it and then you can drag the top of the taskbar down to reduce it's size. I will edit my post if I find any more solutions for your other problems. EDIT: As for the file size problems, does it show all the other details except the file size or does it not display anything at all? Folder info popup -Open a folder -Select "Tools" -Select "Folder Options" -Click on "View" tab -Make sure "Show file size information in folder tips" AND "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items" are ticked. -Click "ok" Try these and let us know if they work, I'll get solutions for your other problems when I get back to the PC :D
  25. Hey Jonny, the next step onc eyou have burned that file to a disk is to go back and read the link that tootech posted earlier, this one: How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting Be sure to read the summary first as it contains important information. basically your next step is to start up the problematic PC, and boot from the CD you burned. It should all be explained in that microsoft website link above and in Tootech's post. Just come back and ask any questions you need answering before and after :)
