RUNDLL problem when running PC ?
DirtyPolo replied to alfa155's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello alfa, have you ever downloaded a program from "ParetoLogic.com"? If not, then please follow this proceedure; Your computer could be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode" On the left hand side, Click on Tools Then click on the Resident Icon in the List Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button. Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives. Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so. __________________________________________________ STEP 4 Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download) Accept all defaults for the installer Allow the program to update the definitions Click on the Quick Scan and click Next. If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 5 Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. -
Partitioned hard drive
DirtyPolo replied to The Honest Men's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Open the start menu by clicking the start button, Go to "All programs", or "Programs", whichever :) Then "Accessories", and there should be a program called "Paint", or "msPaint" This is a simple image editing program built into Windows. Then do as wolfey says. EDIT: Barry beat me to it :(, Damn me and my time wasting BOLDING of key words :P To save the image as a ".jpeg" When you have pasted the image into paint [ctrl + v] Click on "File" Then select "Save As" Under the box where you enter the file name it might say something like "24-bit Bitmap (*.bmp *dip)" Click on the little arrow next to this and select the option of "JPEG (*.JPG *.JPEG *.JPE *.JFIF)" Then come back to the forums, click on "post reply" Then on the new screen, type your reply and to attach the image; scroll down the screen until you see "Attach files" Click on the "Manage Attachments" button this will bring up a new window, click on "choose file" then browse/find the image that you just saved, click "open" Then click on "Upload" then post your reply and the image will be attached for us to look at it :) -

bios won't let me change the year
DirtyPolo replied to bodine's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
What information can you give us about your BIOS, the make, version number etc. -
The only thing I would say is that I am not too sure about that case, as it is only a Mid tower case and that HD4870 is a big GPU and gets very hot as opposed to Nvidia cases, so you would probably be better off with a full size case instead. And you are allowed to ask for such information, but it all depends if the company you chose has those parts, as a lot of companies I see that supply and build, tend to have a limited range of parts for you to choose from.

So if you really were desperate for RAM, then you could use 3 of your sticks. But I believe 2GB is plenty.

Okay Alan, well first of all I would say that unless you intend on running 64-bit Windows, then 2GB of RAM will be plenty, even for Vista. In which case, your mobo will support 2GB of Double Sided RAM, so you are spoilt for choices. I would either sell 2 of your 4 sticks, or keep them as spares, and just install 2 of them :P As your sticks are Double Sided 1GB sticks, it will support 2 of them :) as 2 GB will be enough. Just remember to take note of this point: *To install two memory modules, we suggest that you install them on the DDR2_1 and DDR2_3 sockets, when the DDR2_2 or DDR2_4 socket is populated with a DDR2 1066 MHz memory module, the memory speed will be downgraded to 800 MHz).

Also, quick question, what do you mean by this? will it not let you remove it? or can you personally not remove it for some reason?
-

-
when you say "yahoo browser" Do you mean Internet Explorer, with just a Yahoo Icon? :S And what exactly happens when you try to go onto things like My Ebay?
-
What OS are you running on this mahcine? as 32bit will only recognise 2-3 GB so there is no need for all 4 sticks so you can run them on 2 or 3 sticks fine I believe :)

Hey alan, if you click on the link for the Memory Support lost, for your mobo, here look on Page 2, Your memory is listed here, towards the bottom: AQ4 1GB CORSAIR CM2X1024-6400C4 DS That "DS" stands for Double Sided What I do not understand is that you say you can only have Single Sided memory, where abouts does it say that about your mobo? If it is true however, then yes I am afraid that RAM you have IS Double Sided.

I believe he means the ctrl key, as I have downlaoded google desktop and that's exactly all you have to do, double tap the Ctrl key and up comes a search bar in the centre of the screen :) Is that right Bob?
-
EDIT: Okay Bob, follow these instructions: Provided you have the google gadgets bar on the right hand side of your screen up; Click on the little arrow, the middle button, which will open the menu Click on Options, this will open the options page in a new Browser window or tab. Click on the heading "Display" And the very top option should be for the "Quick Search Bar" make sure this box is ticked Click on Save Preferences and then it should work fine :)

DirtyPolo replied to gavinhodges00's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That's good though Bob, it states that they are letting as many people download it as they want, they have suspended the limit of 2.5 million, to unlimited :) Until January the 24th though! -
