Following up on what Dalo and DSTM have said. What I do is keep a single word document on my desktop with all email addresses and other things that I regularly copy. I keep I minimized but open. From there it is quick and easy to copy and paste by whatever method you choose and you never get your own email address wrong.

please help :( windows 7 system restore
BeeCeeBee replied to neenie28's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
First of all do not pay any of these registry optimizers, they will always show registry errors and rarely fix anything but often make things worse. I do not think that a system restore will effect the passwords but to be honest I am not all that sure so I would wait on that. What is your expected broadband speed and what is speedtest showing? If it is as expected my guess is that you either it is in your browser settings, a firewall setting or malware. Is your computer functioning properly other than the internet? My guess (and it is only a guess) is malware. What security programs do you have? -
All this seems like classic malware. The fact that you cannot perform basic tasks goes well beyond the initial problem. If this really is just a secondary PC with little of "you" in it, reformatting and reinstalling windows is an option. Personally I would let the Malware specialists here have a look first. Special thanks to Karl Benn for a wonderful job of copying and pasting Plastic Nev's post. Isn't it nice to see that spammers know how to do that.

There is a product called Cyber Clean that comes in a putty form and is supposed to be able to do a pretty good job. (I have never used it, this is not an endorsement and I will post no links. It does seem to be sold by some pretty legitimate sources. ) I kind of doubt that it would work its way under a key and still be removable. But you may want to do some research through google and make your own decision.

If you deleted your password it is quite possible that if you just enter nothing, leave the password blank, and click the box to proceed it will simply continue to load. If not you have to understand that no one here is going to help you circumvent password protection. Advice given to the innocent can be used just as easily by the guilty. It is unfortunate that you are one of the innocent and are stuck but I am sure you understand my point.

RAM only partly recognized. Please help!
BeeCeeBee replied to munyosz's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I'm not a hardware expert. (I should have that saved so I don't have to type it each time. ) But two things occur to me. I believe that GPU uses up to 512MB which would effect what is left for your PC. Additionally if the RAM is mismatched that too may effect what is being shown and available for use. -
I assume that your new PB is Windows 7 and I confess to a lack of knowledge of the intricacies of transferring files between the two OSs using ethernet cables. But I do know that you will have to establish a working network. That being said, the easiest, safest and smartest way to transfer is to copy all of your important data to an external medium such as an external Hard Drive (Also make a copy to a DVD ) and simply copy them to the new PC. That way you have all your files in at least 3 places. (The old PC, The External Drilve and the New PC.) Having another permanent copy on a DVD will insure against any or all of these devices going bad.

Unfortunately that is the nature of the virus that bit you. I seriously doubt that there is a thing wrong with malwarebytes and that you will get that message regardless of what you try to open. If you can get into safemode you may want to try to run it from there, however, I think that safemode may not allow you access to your usb ports which would make running it from a flash drive impossible.

What is the source of the megavideo you were watching. No matter you appear to have been infected and will require the aid of someone from the security team. If you have any antimalware software other than avast run it after you run the avast scan. Otherwise wait for someone from the security team to read this and reply. This kind of fake antivirus is all too common but you need to have gotten it from somewhere.

When I posted before I was in firefox but tried again in IE with the same (positive) result. If it works in FF then the issue is not with WMP but perhaps with your IE settings???
-
I clicked that link and immediately received a message asking for a program to open it with. I clicked WMP and got what I suppose is your radio station. Have you tried updating WMP or reinstalling it?

Can't find external hard drive

When you open "My Computer" does it show there? Normally autoplay will only kick in if the drive came with software installed on it. -
Can Vista be removed from a computer
BeeCeeBee replied to madon37s's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The first thing I would do is make sure that the XP that is licensed is not an OEM copy for the other computer. Assuming that it is a valid retail copy with an unused license you have a number of options. You can reformat the drive ( Being very careful to have everything you need by way of data saved to an external media of some kind) or you can create a dual boot where you are given to option to load either XP or Vista on startup. -
Am I correct that you downloaded a program file and now you are trying to run it using winrar to open it with? What is the program and what is its source?

BIOS can't find second HDD
BeeCeeBee replied to Pixelkitten's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Sorry Dave, I am playing golf today so I related it to Saturday. This is, in fact, Friday. -
Are you using the same cable for each of the PCs?

BIOS can't find second HDD
BeeCeeBee replied to Pixelkitten's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
You really should be doing that on a regular basis no matter how you feel about fragmenting. -
While it has not been touched upon yet, have you ever tested your existing speakers? How are they connected? You are not relying on the internal speaker are you?

Because it is highly unlikely that you will find Dalo over the weekend I am posting a link to another forum where just 2 days ago a thread was started on this subject. I am only doing this because it was in reaction to a comment made by Dalo in yet another thread that really does not matter. However if you read Dalo supports his position in a number of posts on the thread. To Defrag Or Not To Defrag? - Computer Help Forums Note: If admins here feel this is inappropriate you may remove it. However I have only done this because it is directly on point and specifically refers to Dave. Most important he defends his position and answers the precise question raised and responds to those who offer different opinions. -
Try to get into safemode and do a system restore from there. Restart your computer and as it begins to start up keeep gently tapping on the F8 key. It should take you to a black screen with a list of alternatives to boot. Simply use the arrow keys to select "Safe Mode" (Don't be concerned that the screen looks a bit distorted in size and that the colors are off. From your programs select "accessories" and then "system tools" and finally "system restore." Let us know how you make out.

Are you using Aero? What steps have you taken to add wallpaper? The method is somewhat different from XP which show on your profile.

e-mail multiple addressees
BeeCeeBee replied to sarah mechen's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Limits imposed by ISPs are there for a purpose ( to try to avoid sanctioning spam.) Most email clients have a way of allowing email to all contacts in your address book but that will not override ISP restrictions and that is a good thing. -
Can't connect through browsers
BeeCeeBee replied to tigerpilot1's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Since this seems to be happening in both firefox and IE it is probably not the browser settings but I would check all your security and privacy settings to be sure. What firewall are you using and have you checked to make sure that you are not blocking these browsers. Try disabling it briefly and see if that solves the problem and let us know so we can help you with settings. The fact that you are getting program updates leads me to believe that it is not your TCP/IP settings but it may be worth the time to check them as well. If you need help with that just shout as well.
