Processor Trouble on a Laptop (ACER ASPIRE 5630)
BeeCeeBee replied to johnnyeaves's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The cpu that you mentioned is in fact a dual core intel processor. It is also true that it is 1662 mhz. Unless you were told something else by a salesman you got what it says on the tin. If you can be more specific with your problem regarding speed we may be able to help. Keep in mind that laptops are not generally regarded as gaming machines. -
Good choice Raj!

Just a quick followup. In order to connect to the internet from safe mode you have to be connected to the router through the ethernet connection. If you are normally using wireless it will not work.

Laptop display lags behind
BeeCeeBee replied to shopmobility's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok if i understand this correctly you have 2 laptop screens and now neither one works at all. If you connect a monitor to the vga port it works fine. Correct? How did you connect the spare laptop screen? If I am reading this right and you actually replaced the old screen with one you know to be working then the obvious answer lies either with the cable (if you used the same one) or the connection itself. If you used the same cable then try a new one. In any event it may be something that can only be solved by having someone take it apart and look at it. Again, that assumes that I am reading this correctly. -
There is almost no question about it your machine is infected. The real question is whether it has become reinfected or are you suffering from a very persistent bug that keeps reinstalling itself. By all means follow Maynarddvdm's instructions and rescan your computer. While we are still working on finding the culprit you may want to make certain that all of your important files are backed up to DVDs or an external hard drive in case it becomes necessary to reinstall windows and clean up your hard drive. That also means letting us know what disks you have that may have come with your machine when you purchased it.

Just a quick addition to what Tootech suggested. Norton Security Center, while not a full Antivirus program (and is, in fact, a tool used by Norton to sell its products) it does perform limited scanning. It should not be used alongside McAfee. While you are looking for toolbars you may consider uninstalling that (security center) as well. There is a possiblity of a conflict that may be effecting your browser.

In internet explorer you have to look in the privacy tab under internet options. It is not the same as the security tab. If it is telling you that cookies are disabled in the google gmail page then that may well be the problem. I use gmail and set my privacy settings at medium high and have no problem. Gmail will not work with cookies disabled. If both your privacy and your security settings are at medium and it still does not get you into gmail then we are on the wrong track. Next, the firewall. just tell us what security programs you know that you have up and running. Please give us the full name and version not just "Norton"or "McAfee" Also go to your control panel and look at the security center and tell us what it says about a firewall.

delivery manage stopped working?
BeeCeeBee replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
When you disabled the program in the startup tab in msconfig and exited and restarted you were unable to delete because of the administrator problem. I have a feeling that you have rebooted normally and it is right back in startup again. That would mean that it is running in the background. Go pack to the directions on msconfig and see if you find it there again in start up. If you do disable it and apply and then exit. When your computer reboots you will get a notice box about a diagnostic mode. Check the box in the window. It will say something like do not run in diagnostic mode or show this window. (XP Version I am making an assumption about vista.) Hopefully you will be able to delete it now. If it was not back in startup we will have to look further. -
Laptop screen knackered
BeeCeeBee replied to simonacowie's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If all that is wrong with the laptop is a broken screen, you are best of borrowing a monitor and attaching it to the laptop. The problem there may be setting the laptop to recognise the monitor if you cant see the screen. Unfortunately it is not plug and play. You would have a similar problem trying to network the two machines. If the laptop is going into the bin, you are probably best off getting a USB caddy and removing the hard drive. That way you can simply plug it into the usb port of the second machine and move the data off it. That will also give you an external Hard drive to remember the old machine by. :) All that being said, one of our hardware experts will tell you if there is a simple way to do what you would like. I would not hold out much hope for that but will wait and learn with you. -
wireless problem pc shows no network router connected

Losing restore points is often another symptom of a malware infection, therefore it is important the we know exactly what you mean. Are you saying that you did a system restore to before you used the "cleaner"and it didn't solve the problem or that you were unable to do a system restore at all? "To no avail"can mean anything and it is a very important distinction. -
Just to be sure, have you tried disabling your firewall to see if there is anything there blocking gmail. What firewall are you using? Also, check to make sure that cookies are enabled and that your privacy settings are no higher than medium high. I doubt that is the problem but it is worth looking at.

Laptop display lags behind
BeeCeeBee replied to shopmobility's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I am not all that clear on what you are telling us. Are you saying that you see a normal boot sequence in a separate monitor? Dell screen, windows loading window etc but on the laptop monitor it stays blank until windows loads? -

delivery manage stopped working?
BeeCeeBee replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I do not have Vista but, unlike XP, you must actually elect to perform certain tasks as an administrator even if you have administrative rights. That, I believe, includes removing program files such as these. -

In vista you must run as an administrator in order to delete. -
delivery manage stopped working?
BeeCeeBee replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Try going to msconfig (Just type it in the run box from your start menu.) Look to see if kontiki or Delivery manager are listed in the startup tab. If they are, disable them and and restart your computer. You should be able to delete the kontiki files at that point. (Assuming you found them in startup.) -
delivery manage stopped working?
BeeCeeBee replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Delivery manager is apparently a product of Kontiki, Inc which is responsible for much of the UKs delivery of media streaming such as Sky TV on line services. If you have any of these programs installed I would suggest that you disable or uninstall them and see if the problem goes away. In any event they should be disabled from startup in your msconfig. -
How Do You Download Photographs to a Memory Card
BeeCeeBee replied to Judy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It is all very easy Judy BUT be careful because while memory sticks are handy devices they are not the best for long term storage of files like photos that are important to you. You are far better off learning how to burn them to a CD or DVD. For the future (and so you can learn the lingo) the little hole is the USB port. The memory stick is a USB memory stick. There are many different types of USB devices and they all have the same "plug." -
That terrific Bonnie, you should be proud very proud!!!!

wireless problem pc shows no network router connected
BeeCeeBee replied to raters's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
From your initial post and your answers there are 2 issues that stand out. 1. Registry corruption 2. Malware infection The AFT Cleaner is a great program for cleaning things out of your browsers and temp files but, like all registry cleaners and editors it can be very dangerous if not used by someone who can look and be aware of exactly what is being altered in the registry. I would suggest that you try a system restore back to just before you "cleaned"your registry and see how things stand. As for malware, I have seen mixed reviews for Panda 2008 and none as yet for 2009. With kids using a PC there is more than an even chance that something has got in there. But try the restore first and we will go from there. -
Touch screen technology.
BeeCeeBee replied to Plastic Nev's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Touch screen is great except for the part where you have to lean forward all the time. Someone will make a fortune if they create a small remote control device to do the touching for you. Perhaps a good idea would be to name it after a small animal to call attention to it. OK I'm off the invent the hamster! -
While I think all you gamers should be banned from the arcade there is something far more sinister going on here. While I hate to speak ill of a colleague in the public forum, we need to discuss the case of help4me. First it was she who proposed the addition of the arcade, then she set it up supposedly for the members. Then, as the final act of treachery she goes on to clear the board in mahjong - a statistical improbability. All this in the first week. Does not anyone see something wrong here. I say we Ban Bonnie!!!!!

I assume you mean PCguard offered by Virgin Media. We need to know a bit about how you use your computer. Try looking at the questions I asked you. Do you download files from the internet? Other than the ability to download and install the flash player or Java, is there anything else wrong with you Internet Explorer?
-
The two post above have been merged into a single thread. When you say that nothing is working, what precisely do you mean? You are here now so unless you are on a different machine you clearly have the ability to browse. Are your problems related just to Flash and Java? What malware protection are you using and have you downloaded anything new from the internet recently? Have you added any hardware?

Have you tried simply clearing your user name and password and entering them manually? The error message generally means a restricted website. Since we really don't know what you clicked and it does not seem to be a recurring problem it can probably be discounted.
