  1. Welcome to FPCH, JIF! Thank you for your kind words and intentions. I hope we can be of help!!
  2. I may be alone in this, Bill, but I don't understand that. Do you mean that they share the same router? Are these two PCs set up as a network?
  3. If I remember correctly most of those are options for how you want to configure SAS on startup etc. For the time being just run the program according to the directions above. Make sure you run the update first even though you have just installed.
  4. SUPERantispyware is part of the program just make sure you update it before you use it. As for McAfee I would consider making that move permanent. It didn't serve you very well this time. If you would like some alternatives let us know when you are done. McAfee is not that easy to uninstall completely but there is a tool availabe that will do the job. However for now just concern yourself with the disinfection process.
  5. Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Sue! Don't worry we found your post under the sofa and put it in a drawer for safekeeping :) Right click on My Computer and it will tell you what edition you are using. Othewise please just post your concerns in a separate thread. If you need help regarding how to post, just send a PM to any moderator that appears to be on line.
  6. You may want to read the following: Description of the Dr. Watson for Windows (Drwtsn32.exe) Tool and How to disable Dr. Watson for Windows
  7. You may need to read this on how to proceed: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/5629-malware-disinfection-limited-no-internet-access.html#post40332
  8. Angelbab your problems may be similar but they are not the same. Please post your own thread and let us know what your problems are and we will try to help. Do not hijack this one. Thank you.
  9. First the obvious question. Is AOL your ISP? Next is your Pop up blocker activated? What browser do you use?
  10. That file should be nothing more than a notepad log. I cannot account for its size so we will have to wait for some others to weigh in on this. They will. It is not a question of whether you can delete much if not all of that, rather it is a question of whether you should. I know that you can but will not offer any instruction on that until the latter part is answered.
  11. Are you certain that you are reading that correctly. 3 gb in a dr watson file seems way over the top. Please post the full file path where you are reading this.
  12. So many issues! First it sounds like something is shorted out so do nothing until you hear from a real hardware expert. They will be here, don't worry. One word of advice though keep the hoover away from the PC. Use a can of compressed air to blow the dust away. It may be that you pulled something loose. A few questions though. Do you know if your fans were operating properly (or seemed to be) before this happened? Have you added any hardware recently? Finally if you can give us whatever information you do have about the make up of this machine it would be helpful.
  13. Since it is virtually impossible to safely remove IE entirely, FF almost always co-exists with Internet Explorer. Importing favorites into Firefox is really only a mouse click or two.
  14. Welcome to FPCH, Phobia. If I break it down it seems to mean "scared to death of moving" have I got it right? How we can cure your PC phobias anyway.
  15. So we can at least put it down as "mouse friendly" :D
  16. Thanks for posting on the other thread I mentioned, Kev. Since it is an ongoing discussion and you have posted your input there I am going to close this one and keep everything in one place. :) http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/computing-news/6192-ie8-realease.html#post44525
  17. The warning appears to be a driver issue. Go back and copy all the information on that line with the warning. That should tell us what CD drive you have and from that we can help you update the drivers.
  18. IE8 Is still pretty new kev. I am not sure that 10 seconds is a lifetime if it works well once you are in. Take a look at our ongoing discussion. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/computing-news/6192-ie8-realease.html#post44525
  19. Is that language coming up in a warning next to the small network icon in the task bar? If so it normally refers to the the router rather than the internet although the effect remains the same.
  20. According to the published specs, your linksys router has a built in modem so you need not buy anything new. Do you have the installation software for it? You will also have to get new software from AOL and use it to configure your laptop or all you will get is a connection to the router and not the internet. You will be able to connect to that router both wirelessly and using the ethernet cable. Obviously you will also need all your AOL account information, passwords and keys.
  21. From what I have read it is not vista capable unless new software has been published. That is why I mentioned the Linksys router.
  22. The modem will not work with Vista but the Linksy's router will. You do not need that modem as you have the capacity to link to the router built into your new laptop but you will need to get the settings needed from your ISP by either obtaining new installation software or trying to configure your account and IP settings manually.
  23. When you answer this please only put in what comes after the @ symbol not your whole address. What is your email address? (eg. @eircom.net, or @gmail.com)
  24. Im a little confused, the voyager 105 is, I believe, a usb ASDL modem and apparently not compatible with Vista. The Linksys is a router. and requires either a LAN or wireless card in your laptop to connect to. Most, if not all, new laptops will have at least one and probably both. You said you were with AOL by way of cable. Do you mean that you connected through an ethernet cable to another device (router) located away from your PC. Or are you saying that your ISP is a cable network (such as cable TV provider?)
  25. The vista that you have is not legal for this machine if it has already been installed in your friends machine and you may have real problems trying to validate it if you try. For that reason we cannot offer you any help or advice on trying to install it. However that does not change the fact that you should not be in the position of trying to install a dodgy version of Vista when your machine was under warranty. Your recourse is with Curry's. They owe you an operating system. Do not let them con you into believing that you have voided the warranty by trying to install this version of window as they left you in that position. Trading standards may be the way to go or threaten but make sure they understand the issue. That being said there is nothing more we can do for you and this thread is closed.
