Hi new member with an xp problem
BeeCeeBee replied to daktariSA's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I think I see the problem and it is not a problem at all. The disk that you refer to "Manual" is just that a manual and that is why they are all pdf files. I think that you do not have a current or any pdf reader installed. What you need is to download Adobe Acrobat Reader and you should then be able to read the manuals. Hi new member with an xp problem
BeeCeeBee replied to daktariSA's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Are you sure that there is no .exe file or is it possible that the extensions are just hidden? Go to your control panel and click on "folder options." In the view tab there is a topic for hidden files and folders. Make sure that the box for "do not show extensions for known file types" is not ticked.- 67 replies

Hi new member with an xp problem
BeeCeeBee replied to daktariSA's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I hate to see you spend money on small stuff. What programs do you want to install? This should be pretty straight forward. What do you mean you cannot create a network any more? Do you mean connect to the internet or a network of your computers?- 67 replies

Any other ways of upgrading memory?
BeeCeeBee replied to NUFCAC's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The site I checked showed the 2 slots and a maximum of 2Gb. It was the compac site but when it gave the mobo specs (an Asus if I remember correctly) it carried the disclaimer I mentioned. (Odd I Know) Compac has a verification method on the link below where you can reference your exact model. It should prove helpful in the final determination. Upgrading Memory (RAM)* No problem about the > thing by the way! :) -
Any other ways of upgrading memory?
BeeCeeBee replied to NUFCAC's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Ok first with regard to your use > on the forum. Now I understand it however it is generally used here (at least by me) to mean "go to." For example Right click on "my Computer" > Manage>Device manager.etc. So to me that meant you wanted to go to 1Gb. As for the remainder of your question, the motherboard specs indicate a 2 Gb maximum but also states (in effect) that the spec may be modified by the manufacturer. While I don't know why they would do so, I would check with them to be sure. -
I haven't actually read the tin. what does it say? :) Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, I4n, whatever it says i'm sure we will do it. I hope your time here is worthwhile.

Any other ways of upgrading memory?
BeeCeeBee replied to NUFCAC's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Going back to the beginning, your compac is not running a very high spec cpu (because it can't) While there is the old adage that there is not such thing as too much RAM, there is also such a thing as enough. You are already running XP- Home with 1Gb of Ram. I don't think you will experience much greater performance if you double that. In any event you were asking about upgrading to 1 Gb and you have already done that. Have you adjusted your page file settings to account for your upgrade? -
Hollo Sweetleaf, The problem seems to be that you have no problem. :) What you describe if I got it right is perfectly normal. As long as one of the files shows the entire page all is well. If you remove the file (folder) containing the graphics you will notice that the remaining file is little more than text.
-
I do not see the point in your re-posting the proceedure. I am not so sure this would have solved the problem but, since you were using vista, were you running as an Administrator when you tried to replace the files? Do you have the same problem in safe mode with networking?

Any other ways of upgrading memory?
BeeCeeBee replied to NUFCAC's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
You want to upgrade the memory to 1Gb and you presently have 2 X 512Mb? Is that correct? Am I missing something or is that not 1024Mb or approximately 1Gb? The motherboard specs show 2 slots for memory up to 1gb each. That is its maximum capacity. -
Who was that masked man? Nice one DirtyPolo! Glad its solved.

Mouse and Keyboard Problem (XP)
BeeCeeBee replied to barlowlufc's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Strange indeed! What is the model number of the laptop and is this the XP machine referred to in your profile? -
Try the Nvidea site here, Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers According to the published specs for your machine you should have a NVIDIA 6100 Shared Graphics card in your machine. You can confirm that in your device manager. If you are unsure the site has a scan that will detect your card and direct you to the proper drivers.

You still have not indicated whether or not you updated the drivers?

How to upgrade my new pc
BeeCeeBee replied to deathkorpsnorks's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The process is simple enough and while I did not look at the specs for your machine I would assume that you have room for at least 2 cards on your Mobo. The key remains to wait for valid suggestions as to what would be a good upgrade for you. Remember, you may still be told it is not needed. -
How to upgrade my new pc
BeeCeeBee replied to deathkorpsnorks's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Here is my one and only attempt to help out on a hardware issue involving gaming. So I fully expect to be told I am wrong. The ATI Radeon HD 3100 appears to be an onboard graphics card and not the newest model at that. If you are going to be running the newer high spec games at high settings, it probably is insufficient. Now I suggest we both sit back and see what Dalo Harkin, Tootech or Dirty Polo have to say. -
Dougie between that and the uniblue issue it really does seem like there is something competing with you as to who (or what ) is running your computer. A format and install (particularly if you pay for it) seems a bit drastic. I would really do a good disinfection before I go the reinstall route.

Your post will be reviewed by one of our hardware specialists at some point during the day. In the interim it would be helpful if you give some indication of the type of gaming that you do or want to do. -
As I said strange, I do notice with Avira that the umbrella icon is sometimes showing as being closed on startup indicating that the guard feature is stopped. It shows in the main avira window as running. I usually resolve this by disabling and then turning it back on. I don't know much about Uniblue scanner except that it is reviewed and seems genuine but of little value to you. The fact that it cannot be uninstalled is worrisome though. I would wait for more technical advice than I am able to give on the subject.
-
I understand but everything you do is reversible as long as it is not something required to boot and, frankly, I am not sure that any of them are. But I would not go by that. That is unusual Dougie, I have Avira and did a restore the other day and have had no problem. At this point you are only creating a restore point but, still, that should not be happening unless you restore to a point before you installed Avira.

Sometimes it is a question of just looking them up on google and seeing what they are. Most likely if they relate to something you have downloaded or installed you will be the best judge as to whether you ever use the program that is related to the service. You should probably hide the microsoft services when you do. Even then, some of those are not needed either. Just remember to set a restore point in case things get messed up.
