  1. You can download the XP disk on the Vista machine for the purpose of burning it. I assume it is the XP disk you needed based on your profile that says you are on XP. If you need a Vista recovery disk then go to this post: http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/downloads/4256-windows-vista-recovery-console.html
  2. Jazz I saw your post after I finished posting. You have a few Nvidia programs that do not look necessary on start up. Try disabling them first and see if the problem stops. If it does fine, but you still should look at all the junk you are starting each and every time you boot. The file you mention is defiantly related to Nvidia.
  3. Jazz most of what you are showing is not needed for startup. But you have a ton of them and it is hard to go though and list them all. However they are pretty obvious. If you do not need them at start up disable them the - chat, adobe reader, the MSN live services etc. stream? Basically if these are things you have added yourself and you do not need them on an immediate basis each time you boot the pc disable them and start them only when needed.
  4. Sorry I misread the your post and looked to the beginning where you indicated that the error occurs on startup. That does not change my suggestion that you try to boot from a disk created by following my post. If you have a corrupt or missing boot file that should correct it.
  5. From what I gather you cannot get into window at all. Correct? If that is the case got to the link in this post http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/downloads/4255-windows-xp-recovery-console.html and download the recovery console on your laptop. Burn it to a cd and try booting the pc from it. Make sure that the boot sequence is set to CD first then hard drive.
  6. Hello Tony, Welcome to fpch! I'm sure you will find something that you do like here. Look around and feel free to post your issues with Vista or anything else.
  7. All you iTune users should read the following link and exercise extreme caution. Make sure you get the security patch or updates linked in the article. Rigged podcasts can leak your iTunes username/password | Zero Day | ZDNet.com
  8. It would be worthwhile checking with Acronis as to their policy. Spools appears to be stating what is generally true but some software companies do allow multiple use of their software.
  9. We are losing track of the initial problem but if you can post a screenshot of your mscinfig startup tap open we may be able to advise you on some of them. It may take 2 screenshots to get them all.
  10. I have checked the eset site using Internet Explorer and it seems fine. This would indicate that you may still have a problem although apparently less severe. Keep us informed.
  11. Safemode runs with only the basic drivers operating. This leads me to believe that some change has been made. What do you mean by watching "sum" program. Was it a DVD or something that was downloaded and if so from where?
  12. To answer your question regarding startup and services, go to "Start" then "Run." When the box pops up type msconfig. The startup tab will show you what you are running on start up. You can disable any item listed. Expanding the second line will give you more information of the program. This is a reversible process but you should not disable anything you are not sure of. Normally if it is not a windows program there is little likelihood that you will cause any real problems. If you do not know what something is, I would suggest you leave it alone and ask. Once you are done and you exit msconfig you will be prompted to restart. You will restart in a diagnostic mode (a window will appear) this will keep happening until you click the box saying not to run it again or show the window. If you go to the general tab and click normal startup you will undo all of your changes. The same if true for items listed under the services tab.
  13. Some clarification is needed here. When you click on the ever present radio button that says you have read and agree to the terms and conditions put forward by the publisher of any software you are entering into a legally binding contract.
  14. Have you downloaded and installed Service Pack 1?
  15. The post by Match definitely qualifies as "don't try this at home." Match knows what he is doing and would not run a known malicious program without having a ready fix if things go wrong.
  16. Did you disable the spybot teatimer before you ran through the process?
  17. While it could be a genuine memory issue, you were not clear about what infections were found. Was it just cookies or something else. You also say that you deleted and reinstalled software. Are you talking about the malwarebytes program itself, or something else?
  18. Most stop error codes are either hardware or driver related. It seems that you are alternativly trying to install or run 3 different OSs and each of which may have different driver requirements. What is the source of these various versions of window? Do you have the original disks for this machine? OEM disks perhaps.
  19. It sounds like it may be a memory issue. How much Ram do you have installed and have you ever upgraded?
  20. Yes but the latest has restored my faith in the education system.:) My concern is that you have had so many changes made to this machine that it is hard to pinpoint where the problem may lie. Can you give us an idea of what programs seem to have the greatest effect on speed? It may be that you will have to take it back once again as the shop may have a greater grasp on what they have done. Hopefully they are reputable as it does seem that the more that is changed the worse it seem to get.
  21. Perhaps the teachers in your "colege" can understand that but I certainly cannot. What exactly is happening right now?
  22. Assuming it is a hard drive replacement is not that difficult. If you feel that you don't want to give it a try go to a reputable (small) independent shop and have them do it for you. That collection charge is way over the top. I just checked the model and your best option is probably the shop but if you are pretty handy and have a safe environment to work, DIY is doable.
  23. Take a look here and see if it helps sort you out. Help and Support From Start menu won't open
  24. Sounds like you are right to suspect that it may be the graphics card although I don't know if the issue is overheating. It could, of course, also be a Mobo problem. We will both have to wait and learn from others on this.
  25. Ok then it does seem like a possible hardware problem which means I can be of little help except to ask you to answer some basic questions that the specialists would need to know. Are you hearing any sounds before a crash, such as a ticking, clicking or grinding sound from your hard drive? Have you changed or added any hardware recently? How old is this PC and has it ever been cleaned? How soon after you boot does the crash occur? Is it ever immediate? Have you ever removed the heatsink or processor? At this point I would answer and then wait for .one of the hardware specialists to take a look at your problem.
