  1. Welcome to FPCH Rawty!! Glad you found your way here. :)
  2. Welcome to FPCH Dennis!! Help is mutual around here. :)
  3. Try booting to safe mode (tap F8 on start) and log in under the Administrator account. If the Floppy drive appears in My computer , device manager, etc. it may indicate that the problem is with your user account and not a general problem. If it appears, try switching users, and see if your account recognises it in safe mode. Assuming it shows in the administrator account and not yours you may either create a new account for yourself or try uninstalling the drive and see if your account recognises it after restart.
  4. Please click on start and then "run." Type cmd in the box that appears. A small black screen will appear, type "ipconfig/all"without the " marks and tell us what it say about your wireless connection. A screenshot would be helpful if you know how to do one. To exit the screen type exit and then enter.
  5. I am not sure what you have done. The key I mentioned is a password that allows wireless connection to the internet through your router. The fact that you can "see" a connection to the router is not the issue.
  6. I am not familiar with the bt hub, but do you know if it is supposed to be a secure connection. Did your ISP (BT I assume) give you a wep or wpa key to enter in order to connect to the internet? Do not assume that you do not need one because it works with your ethernet connection. That is the key designed to keep your neighbors etc. from logging on to your router. You may have to call your ISP or, if you received software with the router try seeing if itcontains a means of getting your web key.
  7. Are they set to automatic as above or are there numbers in the grey areas?
  8. I am referring to the small icon by the clock in the lower right corner of your pc.It looks like a little monitor.
  9. Right Click on the small monitor icon on your tasK bar and select Open Networks connections. Then click on the wireless network connection and set it as below. These are diagrams for XP but they should be about the same. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/TCPIP.png
  10. Have you checked to make sure that your TCP/IP protocols are enabled and set for the wireless network?
  11. The thing to do now Harty is to install the card and make sure that you can at least connect to your router. If you cannot connect to the internet we can deal with that next.
  12. Hi Maz, both you and your posts are welcome at fpch!!
  13. Welcome to FPCH Sheetz! Glad you found your way here.
  14. Welcome to fpch, Loopy!! :)
  15. Hello Loopy, What you need to do is right click with your mouse on an empty spot oon the desktop. A drop down menu will appear. Click on arrange desktop icons and then make certain that show desktop icons is checked. This should restore your desktop to normal. Next try the following steps to restore your taskbar. Press CRTL+ESC. If the Start menu appears, right-click the Start menu, and then click Properties. Click the Taskbar tab, clear the Auto-hide the taskbar check box, and then click OK. If this does not work, it may be that your user account is corrupted. Try logging in as another user. If you are the only user, go to user accounts in your control panel and create a new user administrator account. Let us know.
  16. Dina, I have just visited that site and looked at the recommendations made by both Wolfeymole and Tootech. That site is for the K7Vmm that you need. Do download the packages that were suggested.
  17. Just to put a fine point on this. It is my understanding that you had a perfectly good operating PC (perhaps a little slow) and then you chose to download AVG. That download failed and you have not been able to boot since. Is that a correct synopsis of what has occurred? You also said that you have no restore points. Did you disable system restore? If not, how do you know there are no points if you can't get get in to check? I am just a bit confused so we may as well get as full a picture as possible.
  18. Glad to see it sorted Paul! :)
  19. I would just download the latest one being careful to make sure that it is an XP driver and not a vista driver.
  20. In sure it is just an oversight but you mention uninstalling the old drivers but no reference to installing drivers for the new one. If you did was it before or after you seated the card?
  21. First the Youtube buffering issue. This appears unrelated to your disc drive problem. Prolonged buffering and stop and go playing of streaming media is probably associated either with your ISP or possibly some issue with browser settings. You have performed the malware disinfection process so we can probably rule that out. The problem with the DVDs seems to be a different issue altogether. While a spike is to be expected when you start the drive, prolonged excessive strain on the cpu is not normal. It could be the drive itself, the cpu or something in between. Watch this space for possible causes and sugestions, you will not be forgotten.
  22. Did you get it from HP Mikey? If so it probably carries some form of warranty. Otherwise as long as it works well and gives you no problem then it seems like a pretty good deal. If it turns out to be a paperweight then perhaps not.:) If you are just asking about the specs for the money I would say you did well.
  23. Roger you keep using the word "buffering" in quotes as i just have. Are you getting a message that tells you it is buffering or are you drawing a conclusion based on what you may see on streaming video sites?
  24. NO Roger you have not breached any protocol. It does seem that this thread has been overlooked for some reason. It can happen. I do have a question though. Does the cpu usage just spike and come down or does it stay at the high level while the dvd is trying to play?
  25. Just following up a bit on what RandyL has said. Considering that things don't seem to be working for you, would it not be best to let us know what exactly is happening? My concern is that someone has apparently advised you that you need drivers for your motherboard. While I certainly don't know the details, that is a pretty technical diagnosis. It seems to me that someone who gives that advice should be able to also tell you how to get and install them. Again, what makes you think you need motherboard drivers and what are the problems that you are trying to cure?
