  1. I can well believe what you say Sangfroid. Supanet is the only survivor of what was once Time computers, Tiny were a subsidiary I think. The whole of the Time empire collapsed, leaving only Supanet. At the time, those of us who were subscribers, were quite worried as to what would happen to our accounts. If as you say, it has been embedded into Windows, even Revo may struggle, But it has to be tried first.
  2. Birthdays must be good for you, the more you have, the longer you live. I hope you have many many more.
  3. She may well have a sister. It could be this girl- A blonde called the airlines and asked, how long is the flight from Cleveland to Los Angeles? The operator said, "Just one minute please." The blonde said, "Wow that is fast. Thank you." and hung up.
  4. Well in that case back to the simple stuff that all of us can understand either side of the pond. A Modern Christmas Story . 'Twas the night before Christmas--Old Santa was ****ed. He cussed out the elves and threw down his list. Miserable little brats, ungrateful little jerks. I have a good mind to scrap the whole works! I've busted my ass for damn near a year, Instead of "Thanks Santa"--what do I hear? The old lady *****es cause I work late at night. The elves want more money--The reindeer all fight. Rudolph got drunk and goosed all the maids. Donner is pregnant and Vixen has AIDS. And just when I thought that things would get better Those *******s at IRS sent me a letter, They say I owe taxes--if that ain't damn funny Who ever sent Santa Claus any money? And the kids these days--they all are the pits They want the impossible--Those mean little ****s I spent a whole year making wagons and sleds Assembling dolls...Their arms, legs and heads I made a ton of yo yo's--No request for them, They want computers and robots...they think - I'm IBM! Flying through the air...dodging the trees Falling down chimneys and skinning my knees I'm quitting this job there's just no enjoyment I'll sit on my fat ass and draw unemployment. There's no Christmas this year now you know the reason, I found me a blonde. I'm going SOUTH for the season
  5. I can actually vouch for Revo uninstaller as I have used it in the past and still keep the program. However in this instance it shouldn't be needed as the normal uninstall should be enough. However if any further problems with Supanet, do please let me know as they are my ISP, so may have access to more information.
  6. After a few lost lives, I got to number seven. By that time the music was driving me as insane as the questions.
  7. Just as a final point, once you are happy that your machine is now OK, I would recommend removing all previous restore points. These may be harbouring traces of the malware you have now removed. Go back to system restore as previously described . Don't start a restore, follow the instructions below. To turn off System Protection for a hard disk, clear the check box next to the disk, and then click OK. Then shut down the computer, and reboot it. Then- To turn on System Protection for a hard disk, select the check box next to the disk, and then click OK. A new "first" restore point will then be created and your system should then be OK. Nev.
  8. Thanks for the advice, However I like a good challenge, so I will certainly see what results I can get. However I will also have a look at sound fonts sf2 site as well. As far as recording quality goes, along with the good musicians, I have the band, and one of them is a reasonable recording technician,;) So I may just have a reasonable start there. For now though, the main thing is learning what Vienna can do, and how to use it first. nev.
  9. Right Layler, thanks for that, it does indeed point to zone alarm being the culprit. However we don't want you to be running unprotected so you will need to configure something within Zone Alarm to allow you access to the net. As I say I am unfamiliar with Zone Alarm, so I will ask one of our other experts to help with that. Alternatively , I reccommend you have a look at our recommended firewalls here- http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/3597-free-pc-help-recommended-security-products.html And remove Zone Alarm as although a reasonable firewall there are certainly much better. Nev.
  10. First, I am glad everything now seems to be sorted, and thanks also for the encouragement in creating my own fonts. As you can see by my avatar I am a cornet player in a brass band, so it is brass instruments I wish to create fonts of. There is nothing much of any good in the way of decent brass instrument sounds available anywhere, so I am hoping to get samples from all the other players in the band to create a hopefully good font for brass band.
  11. Don't as yet remove or uninstall Zone Alarm, just go into it and disable it, I don't know Zone Alarm myself but most of these programs have an icon on the bottom right. A right click on it should open a window with an option to "Disable" or "Close". Try that first and see if you can access the net then. If so it may only need a reconfigure of Zone alarm to get you going. If still no access to the net then it will no doubt be some other problem preventing your access. Try as above first, then let us know what happens. We can then take it further as needed.
  12. The smell you found was probably the connector itself burning away. Laptops are extremely fiddly things to work on, you do need an expert. So I can only agree with Tootech, don't try to use it any more until you have had it looked at and repaired.
  13. Last, but hopefully not least, good to see you here Bob. If I knew a way to serve a cup of tea on line, I would put the old copper Kettle on for a brew. ;)
  14. No problem at all with the language my friend. In fact it shows my poor lack of a second language of any sort, and your English is easy to understand. If you are using the Creative Vienna soundfont Studio to make your own font then a read of their literature suggest that it supports your intended card. I like the look of Vienna so downloaded it for myself. A new venture for me, so wish me luck as I wish it to you. You can find the Vienna from here - Sound Blaster SoundFont Nev.
  15. Hi again, just out of curiosity and to try to add a bit to my own knowledge, I found this on good old Wikipedia. Makes interesting reading, and once I have had a look at some if not all the links, I feel sure I may have a better understanding. I hope you too find it useful. SoundFont - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  16. Hi Eddie, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I hope you find the help you need.
  17. The big problem is size I am afraid, a card that can do what you need does have to be full size in order for all the different chips and other bits and pieces needed. However, considering the low price of the Audigy SE, it is worth a try. I have had a word with someone more into this technology and he assures me that any latency problem should be low, a few milli seconds perhaps if you already have a midi port on the mother board. As I understand it, the sound font that comes with the card, whatever the size, can be expanded in most cases by the right type of font installation. This extra font is installed to your hard drive and when called for is then moved to RAM for instant use via the card. The only limitation is the size of RAM memory you have. Sorry if this isn't enough as I am now at the limit of my knowledge. Even though I am a musician and use MIDI, I still have only a vague idea of how it all works. It seems a very complex issue in its own right.
  18. Ah my apologies, in my first answer I hadn't then looked at the card in question. Now I have. No game port for the midi input is a problem, and as you say a max of 4 MB sound font. Can you tell us what your previous sound card was and model type? I assume you need the low profile of the board to fit your machine? I am reluctant to suggest that the existing MIDI input on your mother board could be OK as it may introduce too much latency in the system due to being redirected round the new card. I have looked at other Audigy products and they all have the full board size. There may well be other sound cards out there by other manufacturers, but I am now a bit short of time to go looking. M Audio may be worth a look as they have some sound cards, but no time to look myself at the moment. If you don't mind hanging on till tomorrow, I will then have chance of a better look round, plus also one of our other helpers on here may have some more idea's for you.
  19. I wish you the best of luck, and hope you manage to copy everything to disks. Once you are sure you have everything saved, Beeceebee will be back to help you through the format and re-install of the operating system. Do you have either the manufacturers restore disk, or better, the complete XP system install disk? The manufacturers restore disk will be a part of, or one of, the disks you got when you bought the computer. Nev.
  20. First, go back to control panel/ add or uninstall programs, and search out that Google tool bar and get rid of it. Then next, click "start" (bottom left corner of screen) then search. when that window opens select all files and folders. In the panel that opens type "Google Tool Bar". Also click "More advanced options and place a tick on "Hidden files and folders" also "Sub folders" then finally click search. If no further instance of Google tool bar shows up, then you can carry on. But if Google Tool bar shows up anywhere else, let us know where and whether you have managed to delete or uninstall those other instances. As Tootech states the google tool bar can be a menace, and sometimes can double install itself, hence the reason for asking you to do a search after the first uninstall. It could well be important to be sure you have got rid of google tool bar, as it may well be interfereing with other processes we may ask you to do.
  21. Yes, the new card should do all that the old card did, and perhaps a little better if only because it is newer. I personally use a MIDI controller keyboard, so it is dependant on whatever sound font there is available. As well as the original Roland based font on the card, I also have the give away bit of the GPO or Gariton Personal Orchestra, that came bundled with the notation program, Finale. I have to have Finale open though to use it.
  22. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help szmO I have moved your post as a new topic to help you get better attention, as it is a different problem to the thread you first posted in. As far as your question, I will have to have a look at the card, but so long as there is room for it to physically fit there should be no problem and should do as you want. Regarding sound fonts, most sound card fonts are pretty basic. What do you want to do with them and I can advise a bit more.
  23. I see your concern, and it may well be true. Remember though that the BIOS was trying to work via a corrupt OS and so may have been confused by that. However, I am not sure about that, so hang on a bit longer until Tootech or Seth can see where you are at now. No harm in trying the reformat and reinstall though, even if the MoBo is beggared and needs a new one, it won't matter if you can replace like for like. It will only be a problem if you have to buy a different type of MoBo, and a simple repair is all you need to get round that.
  24. Rather than edit the above, I can now say we can recommend the "File research Center" It comes from some now highly regarded people who are also at the centre of SuperAntiSpyware. You have a suspicious file on your system? they will probably know exactly what it is, and whether it is safe or not.
  25. Hi R S, I followed your link, the "File Research Center" is safe. However, the link to Lop . co.m showed as red on McAffee site advisor and my own security blocked the site. You may well have had a result, but in these circumstances we cannot recommend that site, Lop . c.om to others in any way. The Research Center basically said the same thing, and gives a long list of malware associated with it. Next comes a little of what I have found about "File Research Center" This a free service provided by the makers of SuperAdblocker. Of which I know little, others on here may know more, but on the surface they look to be OK. Their file search and recognition service could be a godsend to any one trying to get to the bottom of some stubborn malware, so I can suggest this one to be looked into further for giving it the OK.
