On the theme of practical jokes. First find a telephone number at random from the directory, then ask four or five friends to ring that number, and when answered to say "Hello, is Bert there please?". Hopefully there won't be a Bert, so will be told NO!!! After the last friend has dialled the number and asked the same question, you ring the number and say "Hello, I am Bert, Has there been any calls for me?"

A man was sitting on a bridge, over a disused railway, with a fishing rod and line dangling over the edge. A passing chap, wishing to humour him, said "How many have you caught?" The guy with the rod said "Your the sixth".

A chap went to the doctors, and said "when I push myself with my finger, here, or here or here, it hurts" Ah said the doctor, you have a broken finger.

While still in device manager, a right click on the AC97 should come up with "Update driver", provided you are connected to the web or online, windows will search for and install the missing driver, without looking for other drivers. Let us know if that helps.

hp printer not working with vista

Thanks for the feedback on getting it working. The lid switch is duly noted for the next time, it looks like they may be prone to sticking if HP tell you to basically thump it in the right place LOL. -
Not only keeping your version of Firefox up to date to maintain your security, there are also two site safety add ons for Firefox that are worth having on board. They will warn you about a bad or dangerous site, and in some cases block it to prevent you getting lumbered with a malware download. The first is McAfee site Advisor, and is available from the McAfee site here- McAfee SiteAdvisor - Firefox Extension Download The second is direct from Motzilla and called WOT (Web of trust) and is available from the Mozilla site here- https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1/cat:12 In both cases these are the latest versions so if already on board, do check to update them.

You know how it is, you set off looking for something, in my case gizmo's for brass instruments, but you end up finding something entirely different that is of great interest or use. I found this helpful site regarding the maintenance of your laptop battery. Laptop Battery maintenance - Laptop Tips | infodotnet Such things as the start of life for a brand new battery, as it will be in a new machine, to tips on discharge cycles and on to keeping it over long storage times.

hp printer not working with vista

Just one important thing, can you take it back to the XP machine and make sure it still works OK on that before going much further. We suspect there may be a problem with the printer, but if it works on the XP machine, it may be a compatibility problem with Vista after all. -
The only comfort for any one with relatives in the front line, is the knowledge that next of kin are informed before the news is released. That of course is OK if it isn't your son or daughter, but not a lot of help when you have the letter on your knee.

hp printer not working with vista
Plastic Nev replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Right, next is to again unplug the printer, uninstall all drivers that Windows obviously found (you may have to plug the printer back in to do that fully, but unplug it afterwards) and clear the PC of any reference to it. Then go to the HP download site and download and install the specified drivers. Once fully installed, then plug the printer back into the PC. If that still fails, I recommend sending the details of your problem to the HP support centre and see what they come up with. I have had need to use their support for a problem with my printer, and got excellent help and support from them. -
Hi and welcome to free PC Help. Did you uninstall the Nero6 before trying the install of Nero7? If yes, have a good look at the box it came in. If anywhere on the box it states the word "Update" then it is not the complete version and is just an updater for the original Nero6. If you did uninstall 6, then you lost those files by doing so. The only answer is to take back the disk and pay the extra for the complete version of Nero7. If however it is the complete version of Nero7 and you still get the error message. try a complete uninstall of everything Nero, then try again. If still no result the disk may be a faulty one anyway, so again take it back and exchange for a good one.

How to make xlsx compatible with office 2003
Plastic Nev replied to a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Alternatively, you could download this free office suite and use that instead. Although I don't use it, they do state it is compatible with all versions of Microsoft Office. OpenOffice.org - The Free and Open Productivity Suite -
My sincere condolences to all its friends and relatives. RIP.

Coming originally from a radio background, I go with Tootech on this, loss of signal in cables was always down to too many connections. The same holds true for data transfer, the less connections there are, then the better chance of decent results.

hp printer not working with vista
Plastic Nev replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, I at first suspected the usual problem of not being compatible with Vista, however a search of the HP website revealed that although that model is no longer available, it should be compatible, as I found this- Supported operating systems Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher); Windows XP Home; Windows XP Professional; Certified for Windows Vista; Mac OS X v 10.3.9; Mac OS X v 10.4 or higher It says "Certified for Windows Vista " so there should be drivers available for it to work. -
However, while it is drying out, I won't be coming over for a coffee. Corrrrrr, the smell  :D:D

Hi, Devlin, thanks for the feedback and I am glad all is now OK. A tip for any future hardware installs, if it comes with a driver disk, always install the drivers from the disk first before installing the hardware, unless any instructions say otherwise.

Personally speaking. I had no intention of holding that recording as my contribution was so small it wasn't worth bothering with, though I know Steve our MD has kept one for himself because he had the most to say. The most important thing though now, is to listen to the show tomorrow night at 7-00PM, as that is when the full band will be playing from the recording done on the Wednesday of that following week.

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Although you already have Malwarebytes on, I would like you to follow everything one step at a time and in the order it is listed, that way we will have a better idea where to go from there, so please follow this. When you get to step 4, because you already have Malwarebytes, I recommend uninstalling your old version, and downloading as per instructions the new version. Your computer could be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode" On the left hand side, Click on Tools Then click on the Resident Icon in the List Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button. Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives. Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so. __________________________________________________ STEP 4 Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download) Accept all defaults for the installer Allow the program to update the definitions Click on the Quick Scan and click Next. If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 5 Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. If required this is the download link for TrendMicro™ HijackThis™ Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Please follow the instructions here How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows Vista -
We could possibly have need for a section for genuine warnings such as this. A company by the name of John Sands, has had their website infected with some pretty bad malware. More here- Mass Injection On John Sands Greeting Card Company Site - Security Labs Alert Although this mainly affects folk in the south pacific area who are the main users of this company, it is worth taking note of for any one else who may know of and use their website. It is also possible for something similar to happen to a more local to Britain or America website.

Hi Devlin try this, remove the sound card, if not already out. Then search for the driver, hopefully going back to the restore point, the driver shouldn't be there, but if it is uninstall it. Then first install the drivers from the disk, then install the card. Let us know if that works.
