Hi again David, Now I have had a bit more time to look round for you, if that slot you do have is for Express cards, then Creative do a card that will fit. A little expensive at £60 but at least worth a look here- X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook After all the 2ZS was around that price when I bought mine. A shame the newer laptops come with the Express slot instead of the older PCMCIA expansion slot. Any excuse to squeeze some more cash out of us eh!:D Edit to add- If however I am wrong and the slots you have are just ordinary memory card readers, then have a look round that creative site, they also do USB sound cards. let us know a bit more about the slots you do have. Another possibility that may be worth considering in the circumstances, would be to look at perhaps a part exchange of the laptop for one with the facilities you need. You never know, you may get a good deal that way.

Hi David, I am afraid that, most definitely your Audigy 2ZS isn't much use with that laptop, as I can see no expansion slot mentioned either. I assume you will have looked round the edge to see if there is a removable cover for the type of slot the 2ZS fits. I also have that card but fortunately my Toshiba has the slot. Like you I need it for music. I am afraid there may only be the option of an external USB sound card, as the price of that doubtful adapter is too much to buy and risking it may work or not, which I doubt as it says on the website other cards are not supported. Only wireless connection type of stuff.

I get the impression that the estate car was driven by a criminal trying to escape, as there were definite gun shots from that one!!

In the mean time while we look at things, in case you are wondering about why you were told Limewire needs to go, please look here for a full explanation- http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/5533-free-pc-help-p2p-policy.html -
Hi Jenian, did everything work out OK?

Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it
Plastic Nev replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
A little obvious I know, but when the PCI card is installed, the speakers should be plugged in to the speaker socket on the card, not the original socket on the machine. Next question, are you sure the speakers themselves are OK and have you tried them on something you know is working? Once the PCI card is installed, you should see a speaker icon on the right hand side of the bottom task bar, a double click on this should bring up the full control panel, check there are no ticks in the mute boxes, also the sliders are all at the top. For now the only one that can stay at the bottom, is the slider for "microphone". If a microphone is plugged in, you will get a howl round otherwise. -
CPU usage very high and errattic
Plastic Nev replied to Jasand's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
OK Jasand, If you are happy that the drivers are up to date, and no yellow or red marks against any in the list. I will suggest leaving it till one of our CPU experts is on line to have a look. That screen shot is a mess and something must be causing it, but it is beyond my level of knowledge. -
Hi Harold, if you mean the heat sink paste to go between the CPU and the heat sink, it is widely available from most computer parts retailers, and should be moderately applied, not too much, as it just squeezes out and contaminates everything. Arctic Cooling MX-5 is one that has been mentioned by our Dirty Polo, one of our self build experts.

Plastic Nev replied to Jasand's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
OK Jasand, I know Carolyn looked you over and found nothing (She is good) so a lot puzzled. I have had a look at your screen shot, I expected a steady line not the millions of extremely high spikes that are there. It actually looks like something has sent the CPU into some sort of crazy loop. This actually suggests a faulty driver for something but what? Have you had a look for that in driver management? -
CPU usage very high and errattic
Plastic Nev replied to Jasand's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
OK Jasand, that is more than enough, so not the problem then. It was just a shot in the dark anyway, I am now beginning to think that maybe there is a hardware fault somewhere rather than software, but I shall have to leave that for the more savvy amongst us. -

Plastic Nev replied to Jasand's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Jasand, I have followed this with interest from over there actually, and just to clarify something for me, as well as answering Wolfeymoles question, I wonder what size your page file or virtual memory is, Microsoft recommend a page file of 1.5 times the total RAM, have a look here for a guide to how to find out and adjust as necessary- Change virtual memory settings: Management Services If the page file is too small the CPU will be constantly shifting stuff around trying to compensate. Forgive me if this has already been covered and I missed it. Nev. -
Ah, yes, now I see. I went there a bit since, good job I did too. Otherwise I might just have moved this thread up to monitor issues LOL :D :D

virus help please firewall.exe
Plastic Nev replied to prenton01's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Tony. As an also, before installing the Trend, uninstall or at the least disable the AVG, they may conflict with each other if you don't. -
Hello and welcome Dutchman, there is no need to be nervous, the best part about communication on a forum, is that unlike a direct face to face conversation, you have plenty of time to think through and write your next answer, there is no rush. Do enjoy your time with us, we will help where needed. Nev.

Hi again, if the adapter will let you get video and sound across, your "Roxio" software may be all you need.
-
Hi and a welcome from me too. Good intro and I wish we got as good an intro from others. I also am old enough to remember the Sinclair series and the BBC micro. I thought then, if that is what computers are about, then no thanks, I have too many other things to do. I was eventually dragged kicking and screaming, into the twenty first century with this now old clunker running XP, at first with SP1 on it, now upgraded of course.

Hi jenian. You mention there is a Svideo socket on your graphics card, I think they are two way, both in and out. Although you don't have a similar socket on your video recorder, you can get a scart to Svideo adapter that you may be able to use with a Svideo cable on the scart out socket. Many TV and Video retailers will stock the adapter. You may also need to use a left and right audio cable as well, phono to 3.5 jack.

Can't find Sound card or Drivers for it
Plastic Nev replied to Jonny5isalive's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Jony, can you tell us, is this a separate sound card slotted into a PCI slot, or is it the sound system on the mother board. To help further we need to know what make the card is and model number if a separate card, and if on board we need to know the mother board make and number. Next, you say there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the multimedia controller, a right click on it should give a bit more info as to what may be wrong. -
For any one who is having trouble with the Comodo personal firewall, it appears it can be hell on wheels to uninstall it. Basically it won't go away without a fight, there is a very useful article here on Comodo's own forum. Beware, it is long and complicated to do, and may not always work. If you have Comodo personal firewall and it is working correctly, be thankful.

It is really the model number of the battery that is important, there should be a label on the battery itself.
