  1. Isn't that what I wrote in post #2 ?
  2. It could be that the drive has died but it is worth trying this first ... Remove the Upper and Lower Filters There is software to do this - I prefer to use the manual method. click here You can try the FixIt if you are not confident editing the registry. It is possible to get an external CD DVD Drive that plugs into the USB port if the present one is dead. Alternatively you could replace the existing one.
  3. OK - when the message pops up again point the mouse curser at the monitor icon does it say .....Access ....Local and Internet ? If this is the case your connection hasn't dropped out. Try this: Start > type in ....cmd .....( do not hit Enter yet ) Top left of screen right click on cmd.exe > then click on Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ... netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt ......ENTER Try the connection again.
  4. Hi, try putting a different disk in - do you get the same message ? Does this machine have a USB port ?
  5. Hi, Nev asked me to take a look at this thread :) I must state first of all that I have no experience of remote access to DVRs :( When you try to access the DVR do you do this via an ip address and Port number? http://69.31.192.22:5560 for example ? At this point do you get the DVRs login ? You said earlier .... From what I have read the ip address is used to locate the DVR - then there is a login-name and password. Is this correct ?
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS Does this computer have a CDROM Drive ? If so - pop the "backed up" CD in and then ( assuming that you have Windows as an Operating System ) ...... Start > Computer ( or My Computer ) You will see the CDROM Drive there as an icon. right click on this > explore This will show you the files and data on the drive. You can copy this to the computer hard drive if you wish. We can explain how to do this if you want us to.
  7. Hi Mokles How are you connected to the internet ? Wireless or wired connection to a router ? What is the make and model number of the router ? Do you have a small monitor icon ( bottom right of screen ) ? If so - when you get the "not responding" message is there a red cross on the icon ?
  8. I know Safe Mode gives you low resolution - this is because the system is running on minimal drivers. If the graphics is stable in Safe Mode then it could be software ( drivers ) causing the problem. Is the on-board video listed in device manager? If so - right click > disable it. It could be conflicting with the Radeon software.
  9. Hi, Thanks for creating a new thread - it will be less confusing. Even if there is an OS on the drive it will not boot up as Windows was installed in a different environment ( motherboard etc ) and it will recognise this. If there is an OS on it and it is XP it is possible to do a "Repair Install" to correct this - the XP version would need to be exactly the same as the installed version (and there is no way of finding out :) ) Disconnect the CDROM Drive from the IDE cable at the motherboard end. Take the molex power connection out from the drive too. Using either cable ( they are both basically the same ) connect just one HDD to the end and put the other end to the motherboard. Attach a molex power connection to the drive. [it is not worth mounting the drive in the case - just let it hang for the moment.] Make sure that the jumper on the back of the drive is set to the "Master" position. Switch on and you should see the drive information on screen. It still may not boot up - but we need to see the drive recognised.
  10. Hi Luke and welcome to ExTS Never mind - somebody has to live there. [by the way .......I think you watch far too much tv :) :) ]
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) Firstly - as this is two different problems - could I ask you to create a new thread for the machine that doesn't work please? Just copy what you have written here about it and post a new thread in the same forum. ======== The software that will give you an analysis of your system specs is Speccy ( there are others ....Everest for one ) click here ======== The slow machine - Never heard of "fake" ram. If your system is running just 256MB RAM then this certainly is a major part of the problem. Speccy will confirm what the system is seeing. ======= Regarding the drivers for your Video Card: Start > Run > Type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to Display Adapters > right click on the device > Update Driver Software Use the auto option and let Windows search the net for an updated driver.
  12. Assuming that you have the correct drivers for your system ( 32 bit ?) can you confirm that there are no problems with the Video Card itself ? Can you try it in another system ? If you boot up in Safe Mode - do you get the same problems ? [ tap F8 about once per second after switching on - Safe Mode will be one of the options ]
  13. Just to add my agreement to what Nev has said. CCleaner does a good job. There is no advantage to using the registry cleaner option. Let Windows worry about the registry :)
  14. If you do decide to re-case then, as Armageddon suggests, a 500 Watt PSU will run most mid-range cards. You will have far more choice of video card too. Just do one thing .... Check that you have a PCIe x 16 slot ( this is where the video card would sit ) I have tried looking for a motherboard spec and cannot locate one. http://karbosguide.com/books/pcarchitecture/images/828.jpg The black one is PCIe x 16 [ The white ones are PCI ] The colour will vary - but the tell-tail is the extension [ top of picture ] Let us know what you decide and how you get on :)
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS When you downloaded the drivers for your Video Card - was there an option to d/l 32 bit / 64 bit software ? In Device Manager - click the + next to Display Adapters. Is there an on-board option listed ? What is listed there ? If you right click on this - is there an option to "Update Driver Software" ? If so - click on this and follow the prompts and select the auto option and use the net.
  16. Neill10 has said it in one sentence :) We don't recommend the use of registry cleaners - few tech forums will. These "pay for" scans that find dozens of problems are a scam. DO NOT use them and certainly do not pay for them to remove what they "find". I have used CCleaner before and it is good. However - I would not recommend using the registry option - it simply isn't necessary and rarely makes any difference. We often recommend TFC ( Temp File Cleaner ) click here
  17. Now that is a sensible idea :) Depends what the PSU calculator comes up with. 180 Watts is still low and any card you get will not be much of an improvement on the present on-board that you have now. The very low-end cards are certainly no use for playing games.
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have split your post from the other thread - you are better with one all to yourself :) I assume you are talking about free software to create an image of your drive ? I wrote a tutorial re. Macrium Reflect which is relatively easy to use and most of all it is free. click here I had a question recently from a member using this software that may help you click here Take a look at the image he posted. Hope this helps :)
  19. Very frustrating. All PCIe cards that I have found require at least 250 Watts. There is a PSU calculator that you can use: click here It suggests that you don't put in the video card in the PCIe box. This is because the power consumption varies so much. You would need to add this to the final total. I did a quick check using what information I had on your system and added 75 Watts - which is typical of a low-end card power consumption. It came to over 200 Watts - which is why manufacturers suggest 250 Watts or more.
  20. This seems to confirm the 180 Watt that I found on a forum. This is not enough to run a decent Video Card. Is this what your PSU looks like? click here If it is - it is not designed to be upgraded. I doubt that you would find a suitable 400Watt replacement so that you could run a decent Video Card
  21. Thanks for that - I am, however, finding it difficult to find any specific information related to that model. I did find this ( general info ) click here I found one reference to a 180 Watt PSU - but we cannot assume this. If you take the side panel off you may be able to see a label on the unit itself that tells you. Any information off the PSU would help :)
  22. Hi. H330 I can find but there are different models. /5 i3 gives nothing. model number = 77801PU is one option click here BUT - this one only has 4GB RAM .....you have 8GB Can you find something like 77801PU on your machine. It is a small form factor motherboard and there may be a problem with space inside the case.
  23. Hi Ray Thanks for the kind comments. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas :)
  24. Hi and welcome to ExTS From what I can find - this card requires a minimum of 350 Watt PSU. I can't tell from your last post what size PSU you have in your system. You need to be aware that it is a wide card and will take up 2 slots ( this is not uncommon ) I can't look up your motherboard details as Speccy could not produce them. If you post your Lenovo model number we may be able to get some more information for you. Your processor will not need to be changed.
  25. Isn't this a new thread ?
