1. Hi Stella - he deserves it :) I hope you get off and let him have a go now and again. Best of luck and, although early I am sure you will have a
2. Hi Neil and welcome to ExTS Not good. Is this in the area of the PSU ? take a look here click here If you have a multi-meter or volt meter you can test the PSU click here You will not get beeps if you don't have an on-board speaker. I am away for the weekend - somebody else will probably pick this up.
3. I don't think you would notice a difference - it is worth trying though.
4. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have split your posts from the other thread - it was 2 years old and you are better with your own. Can you let us know the make and model number of your machine please And a little background relating to the problem. I am away for the weekend but somebody else should pick this up.
5. Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear that your "problem" has been fixed :)
6. Well done - it does give you a buzz when things go right :) Let us know if the game runs - after all ......that was the reason for starting all of this :)
7. Hi Mike I hinted earlier re. Video Card / connection. If you do have a card AND on-board video try taking the card out and using the on-board. Let us know how you get on when your friend takes a look.
8. I can't think of anything else that it might be. It would be worth giving this a try. You will probably need a 2 port one ?
9. I look forward to hearing that you have a new 500 Watt PSU installed :) I found this too I suspect that you have on-board video ( no actual card ) already ....but it should help. Remember DO NOT put your new Video Card in until you have run the system with the new PSU. Once installed you may need to disable the old drivers. I can advise on that later :)
10. kertison We don't allow links to "pay for" software. I also note that you have an entry in a spammers' database. Also this thread is well over a year old !
11. Hi If you can't find out if it is J510 a or c take your pick - 50 / 50 :) If it is wrong uninstall it and try the other.
12. I understand - just assumed from your first post where you said ... Clean re-install is not repair :)
13. Hi By the time you add up the cost of a hard drive and a operating system you may as well buy a new machine. The guys who started their own business may well be able to get it going for you relatively cheaply. There is no guarantee that the clicking is a hard drive - it could be a fan on a loose wire. ( this would be considerably faster than the video posted )
14. Hi Give this one a try - 0844 995 9696 ( UK )
15. I'm sorry - forgetting that this is a laptop !! In the majority of cases it is really awkward to get at. If you go back to the Safe Mode options again ( F8 ) is there an option to "Repair your Computer" If there is give this a try. Without access to a CDROM drive we are struggling.
16. If you have installed this OS on two machines it is not a legal install on your friend's. I am sorry - we cannot advise any further. Our forums are monitored and we do not want any bother from Microsoft.
17. Hi, I have deleted your other duplicate post. A strange problem indeed. Your IDE cable - is it 80 or 40 wires ? When you connect the drives I assume that you have the jumpers set appropriately to Master and Slave ? Have you tried the CS ( Cable Select ) option ? Try taking the CMOS battery out for 2 mins and re-setting the BIOS to defaults.
18. I was trying to explain the message that you got. If you elected to leave it - you would have installed a second version of XP on the same drive. This is not an issue - just not usual. What was the result of installing the drivers ?
19. Yes - that is a floppy drive. Take the CMOS battery out for 2 mins. This will reset the BIOS to defaults I am thinking that if you can move the USB option to first in the Boot Order you could use an external CD drive to re-install an Operating System
20. Thanks for confirming that helcaraxe I wanted to be absolutely sure before suggesting a PSU upgrade.
21. Good to hear that you have fixed your problem :)
22. As far as I can tell - it will be a direct replacement for your old one. The connections cannot be put in the wrong place or the wrong way around. They are designed this way. It looks really complicated due to all of the wires BUT it isn't. Take photos to remind you. Replace the PSU first - do not put the new Video Card in until you have tested the PSU and make sure that that is working OK. If you like you can come back here once the PSU has arrived and ask any further questions you have before you start :)
