Can i use this graphics card with my computer?
KenB replied to Flower_Fox's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi and welcome to ExTS The minimum PSU for that particular card is 300 Watts To check what you have there should be a label on the top of the PSU. [according to the link supplied by Vr5fx you have a 300W PSU ] -
Good Luck Steve The other drive was a "no-make" I doubt if it would have lasted too long ( who can tell ???? ) By the way - it may be possible to get data off your old drive if you need it. Just ask :)

problem with Internet connection
KenB replied to igrek001's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Is it ? 1. Is the monitor icon showing bottom right of your screen ? 2. Try re-setting the router. Switch it off for 1 minute and switch back on. Are all of the LEDs lit? Especially the one indicating the Wireless Connection ? [This is the second from the left - it should be green] 3. There is a reset button at the back. Press this ( don't hold it down for long ) This will do a reset. Try the connection again. 4. Can any other wireless machine connect to your network ? 5. If you can't take the desktop down to the router - can you take the router to the desktop to try an ethernet connection ? -

It is usual to disconnect secondary drives when installing an O/S. Start > type in .......diskmgmt.msc .................ENTER Do the drives show up here ? If so they should show as Disk 1 E: and Disk2 F: ( or two other letters ) Do they show as NTFS ? What is written against each drive ? -

This is your NIC - what you would connect the ethernet cable to ................it is not connected to the wireless adapter. Is Wireless Zero Configuration enabled or disabled in Services ? Try the following please: ( Belkin adapter connected ) Start > Run ....type in ........cmd ..............ENTER At the prompt type .... ipconfig /release then type ..... ipconfig /renew [ space after ipconfig ] Try ipconfig /all again. If you have a functioning connection it should look like this: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : IntelĀ® WiFi Link 5100 AGN Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-21-5D-50-D7-16 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100(Preferred) Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 13 March 2012 22:10:21 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 15 March 2012 17:32:39 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled Whilst you have the command prompt...... type in ......ping 192.168.2.1 [ this is trying to communicate with your router ]You should get 4 packets sent - 4 received - no losses. What do you get ? -
problem with Internet connection

I am coming to the conclusion that the Belkin Adapter is at fault. Start > Run .....type in .....devmgmt.msc .........ENTER Click the + next to "Network Adapters" Right click on the Belkin Adapter > select uninstall. Reboot the machine. Windows should locate new hardware and attempt to install the drivers. You should have the original CD with the drivers on - you may need this. This does not confirm that the device is at fault - but if Windows does NOT detect it then it certainly does need replacing. -
Hi and welcome to ExTS I am a little confused ...... So - you can access your data ......but can't open it - is this correct ? Why are you accessing files in the recovery partition? This is used to reinstall the Operating System If you right click on a file > Properties It will show something like .......example.doc ( I am interested in what follows the filename ...............in this case .doc ) What is the file extension ? Are you suggesting that the files are all compressed ?

This should be a very last resort.

Hi and welcome to ExTS Are these 2 drives SATA ? Are they both formatted ? -
Hi Steve You seem to have been given wrong information; Take a look here: click here You need a 3.5 inch IDE ( PATA ) drive for your desktop ( laptops are 2.5 inch ).

. That was for my reference - it is the address of your router. Check this for me please.... Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on the Wireless Connection > Properties > click on Internet Protocol ( TCP/IP ) to highlight it click on Properties at this point are "Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address" both ticked ? Continue from here ......click on Advanced > then click the WINS tab. You should see this. http://i.technet.microsoft.com/dynimg/IC22896.gif Are your settings the same? "Enable LMHosts Lookup" and "Default" both ticked. if not change them to these settings and click OK -

I understand that you still don't have an internet connection but when you say "it works" ....................what works ? With the Belkin adapter connected ..... Start > Run > type in ....cmd .....ENTER ( I know we have done this before ) type in .......ipconfig /all ( space after ipconfig ) If this is different from the last one can you copy and paste it here please. ================ Can you post the make and model number of the router please ( I may have asked this before ) EDIT: Belkin G mod.F5D723OC ( is this it ? ) for ref ..... 192.168.2.1 -
Side plate vibrating off Main computer case structure
KenB replied to Aldaz108's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
It is obviously vibrating because it is loose - hence my comment re. "screws" You don't know the make and model number of your computer ?? We can't get much further with this. -

Hi, Is your motherboard mounted vertically ? Check this "plate" to see if there are any screws that can be tightened. Can you provide a picture of the problem area ? What is the make and model number of the computer ? -

This should certainly not be the case. Take a look here: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/sys_srv_default_settings.mspx?mfr=true Set them to the default settings. If they are disabled - something has done this - they don't change themselves. Let me know how the internet connection is after you make the changes. -

If W_Z_C Service was the only one you disabled this would not affect the Plug and Play service. This is easily checked: Start > Run ....type in ....services.msc .....ENTER Scroll down to Plug and Play. This should be set to automatic. check this first - I need to look at my XP machine to confirm some of the other settings. ======================== What about post 34 ? ======================== We can look at this after you make sure that Plug and Play is set up OK -
This information is freely available http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Troubleshoot-Windows-password-problems We cannot, however, provide any other advice re. passwords as we have no way of being sure that the machine is actually yours. ( We are not implying anything here :) ) I am sorry - we cannot assist further - I hope you understand.

Packard Bell Laptop Black Screen
KenB replied to Draven_UK's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi and welcome to ExTS If you cannot boot into Safe Mode and you don't have recovery disks or installation disk you have no more options. Are you sure that the Recovery Disk wasn't made ? If you can borrow a Win7 disk of the same version ( Win7 Home Premium ? ) it may be possible to use this. Try tapping F10 ( about once per second ) immediately after switching on. P-B used to have a hidden Recovery Partition which you could use to revert to factory settings. If this is available I suggest that you re-attach the drive to your system and take off any data that is wanted. Factory Settings is exactly that - how it was when it was first bought ............no files / data / photos etc. P-Bell have a Customer Care Line 0871 760 1019 ( UK ) You may be able to buy recovery disks a lot cheaper that an OEM version of Win7 -
No - the cards are backwards compatible. It is either a problem card or a problem PSU. 1. Do you have another PSU to try ( even one that is much less wattage ) ? 2. Can you try a different 6 pin power connection if one is available ? 3. Do you have a different PCIe Video Card to try in the slot ? The fact that the card works on another system seems to point to the PSU.

1. put the adapter in and goto device manager [ Start > Run ......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER] Check that it is showing in "Network Adapters" 2. If it isn't - you should have a driver CD that came with it. Re-install the drivers. 3. If it does show in device manager From the Start Menu, open Windows Control Panel. Inside Control Panel, click "Network and Internet Connections" and then click "Network Connections." Is Wireless Network Connection there ? -
Hi, Disable the on-board video from Device Manager then try again with the new card.
-
Hi and welcome to ExTS There is one 6 pin PCI power connection on that card - do you have this connected ? Do you have a second PCIe x16 slot to try it in ?

Did you re-boot after changing the Wireless Zero Configuration service ? Can you take this machine to the router and try connecting with an ethernet cable ?
