1. Hi, I assume that you have the Wireless Adapter in at all times ? Your Belkin may not allow Windows to auto configure your Wireless Connection. This explains: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windowsxpnetworking/a/automaticwifixp.htm This is the important sentence: In the Wireless Network Connection properties window, do you see a "Wireless Networks" tab? If not, your Wi-Fi network adapter lacks so-called Windows Zero Configuration (WZC) support, and the built-in Windows XP automatic wireless configuration feature will remain unavailable to you. Do you see the "Wireless Networks Tab" ? If not - go back and disable Wireless Zero Configuration in Services.

2. OK - we will leave the Registry for now ( although it must be listed there somewhere ) Start > Run .....type in ....services.msc .......ENTER Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration Is this service started ? If it isn't Right click on it > Properties > in the "Startup Type" change this to Automatic. (check that it is automatic anyway )
3. If this is relatively recent - have you tried System Restore to a date just prior to the start of your problem ?
4. Hi and welcome to ExTS Is this a card from a camera ? If so - do you have a USB lead that you can connect from camera to USB ports ? Start ....type in ....devmgmt.msc ..........ENTER Click the + next to USB Controllers The Card Reader should show here - are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
5. Hi and welcome to ExTS You can try sfc /scannow a couple of times. Sometimes it will pick up an error on the second run. When you say you have checked the disk for errors - I assume this was chkdsk /r /f ? Start ....type in ....devmgmt.msc .....ENTER Click the + next to the devices. Are there any with yellow exclamation marks ?
6. Start > Run ......type in ......regedit ........ENTER click on EDIT > Find Check only the box against DATA ( uncheck the other two ) Type into the Find box .............netbiosoptions What does it find?
7. You are welcome - Happy that we were able to help :)
8. Hi Randy, You have to be quick round here :) At least we said the same thing.
9. Hi, This has G34 Socket architecture. (basically the arrangement of pin connections ) Your present motherboard will not support this. Asus have developed a m/board with Socket G34 http://www.asus.com/Server_Workstation/Server_Motherboards/KGPED16/ You could virtually buy a complete computer for the price of this :)
10. Hi, When you add the SATA converter to the IDE drive effectively it is now a SATA drive. SATA drives do not have jumpers - so you can leave the jumper set to "Master" if this is where it is at the moment. There is a video here that explains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UtHJnMlDAY
11. There were instructions in post 18 that explained how to use the "Find" option from within the Registry. [bottom half of the post] Please follow those instructions. It is important that we find this as we need to check that NetBios is not disabled from within the Registry, ============= Something else to try: Start > Run ....type in .....msconfig .....ENTER Click on "Launch System Restore" Follow the prompts and select a date that is prior to the start of your problem. This will restore the system and registry settings to what they were on the chosen date. Files / photos / data etc will be fine.
12. ????? I gave you specific instructions on how to search from within the Registry. Files and Folders is a Windows search. We are not getting very far with this. See post 18.
13. Hi and welcome to ExTS Jump in with both feet :)
14. Did you try using the Search option after opening the Registry?
15. You are very welcome I don't know why the Registry Value had been changed - but we found it in the end :)
16. OK Try setting the value to "0" and re-booting.
17. Hi Just to confirm ....follow this path again. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Click on Winlogon to highlight it Click on AutoAdminLogon to highlight this > EDIT ( on the toolbar ) > Modify It will show a 1 > change this to 0 ( zero ) and OK Re-boot the machine ========================= Does it also show: DefaultUserName (REG_SZ): <User name (admin)> where the User name is actually yours ?
18. I think your system is set to logon to your username automatically - bypassing any other user. Set this value to 0 ( zero ) Highlight AutoAdminLogon > EDIT ( on the toolbar ) > Modify It will show a 1 > change this to 0 ( zero ) and OK Try re-booting now.
19. You are very welcome. If a hard drive is making noises then it does sound as if it is on its last. Lucky you had the forethought to clone the drive.
20. Hi Simon The key word here is "domain" Home computers are not part of a domain - was this a company machine at one point? Did the technician take your machine away to work on it ? Does this fit your circumstances? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317049 =================== I found this to explain your error message: Do the following and check for me please..... Start > Run ....type in ....regedit ......ENTER Click the + next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE then click the + next to Software This is the path > continue clicking the + HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon When you get to Winlogon do not click the + but highlight Winlogon by clicking on itYou will see a list on the right of the screen. Are any of the items below listed ? DefaultPassword (REG_SZ): <Password> AutoAdminLogon (REG_SZ): 1 AutoLogonCount (REG_DWORD) : any value greater than one (1)
21. Hi and welcome. No - I doubt that it would boot up. When you install Windows it "takes an inventory" of the hardware - significantly the motherboard. If you swap the motherboard or move the hard drive to another system ( in other words .....a different m/board ) Windows recognises a new environment and will not boot up. XP has a way around this by enabling a Repair Install of the O/S. Vista and Win7 do not have this option. If the second laptop had the same motherboard you stand a good chance. By doing that [ having the same version of the O/S on two systems ] you would be in breach of the Microsoft EULA. I am guessing that your original O/S is an OEM version anyway. If this is correct it is tied to the original motherboard. You would have access to your data ( files / photos etc ) but not your programs as these are run from within Windows - and you will not be able to boot Windows.
22. It is not listed in the initial .NET options - you have to scroll down through the alphabetical list. I have just checked on my XP machine and it is there. I put an extra > in my first instructions .......here is the correct path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces click on Tcpip to highlight it. On the right side of the screen you should see the "NetbiosOptions" Is it set to 0x00000000 (1) or 0x00000000 (0) ? it should be "0" ============================= If that doesn't locate it ( XP may be slightly different ) do the following: Open the Registry > click on EDIT > Find Check only the box against DATA ( uncheck the other two ) Type into the Find box .............netbiosoptions You should see the following: [ What I have highlighted in red is the path to NetBT and Tcpip ]
23. The IP Config /all has changed - BUT it is still not correct. Check this please..... Start > Run ...type in ....regedit .....ENTER Cliclk the ">" next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > Current ControlSet > Services > NetBT > Parameters > Interfaces click on Tcpip In the right panel you will see "NetbiosOptions" Is it set to 0x00000000 (1) or 0x00000000 (0) ? it should be "0"
24. ATI HD 6450 This card should be OK for watching movies.
25. It depends on how much you want to spend. I missed this - sorry - I did say it was a quick look. I should have realised it was 64bit as it had 8 GB RAM !! If you want to play high end games ( I am not a gamer ) you need a good Video Card. Anything under £150 will probably not be good enough. For gaming less than 8GB RAM is probably not going to do the job very well. Look at the system specs for a couple of games that you want to play. They usually specify the minimum requirement for Video Card etc.
