  1. Hi and welcome to ExTS The pic helps - thanks. What is the resolution on the pc set to ? Try changing this and see if there is any change. What is the make and model number of the TV ?
  2. You are getting paid for your services - but asking us to solve your problem for you ????
  3. This is new - Do you get this error message when you try to save to the drive? When you have the external drive plus another device in a USB Port ...... Start > Run ....type in ....devmgmt.msc .....ENTER Click the + next to Disk Drives Does your external drive show? If you can see your drive right click on it > Properties > Policies Check the box "Optimise for Performance" Does this make any difference ?
  4. Voltages seem ok - but this was not a load test. 1. I assume that you have tried this external drive on another pc with other devices connected ? This would piont the problem to your pc and not the drive itself. 2. Can you connect more than one USB device ( other than the external HDD ) to your own system ? This seems low for an external drive. Don't seem to be able to find any info on this ?? Does the external drive have a mains power supply adapter or does it use the 5v supply from the USB port ?
  5. Thanks for the feedback. The "Solution" may be of use to others.
  6. Not at all. Starbuck said that to me when he recommended Essentials. Essentials just runs in the background - no adverts - no noises ........... You can't have 2 AVs on the system - they will conflict.
  7. Nice set of pics Nev :)
  8. Hi, and welcome to ExTS There are 2 options for the drivers for Win7 - 32 or 64 bit. Did you install the correct one for your O/S ? Drivers are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=467980&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=uk Some printers need the software installed before the hardware itself. Was the printer connected when you installed the drivers?
  9. Hi and welcome to ExTS This is not an OS issue. Here is the clue: It seems to me to be a power issue. The USB ports are 5v. It could be that side of the PSU is not quite supplying the power required to run more than one device - depending upon the power requirements of the device. An external hard drive will require more power than a memory stick for instance. Did you suspect that it was faulty? Take a look here -( I assume you have access to a multi-meter being on an Electronics course :) ) http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=10 Pay particular attention to the 5v supply. If the voltages are down - even by 0.5v then I would suspect the PSU. Keep in mind that this is not a test under load. Ideally you could do with trying a different PSU. Also try this: Start > in the Run box type .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to USB Controllers Right click USB Root Hub > Properties > Power The information will tell you that there is 500mA per port. ( This may not be the case if there is a problem ) Plug your external drive in and refresh. Your drive requirements will be shown. Try this with 2 or more USB devices connected and see if there are changes. If the PSU is at fault and cannot supply the amps required your devices will not run. Does your external drive have its own power supply or does it use the 5v supply from the port?
  10. Hi Sharon and welcome to ExTS I don't think you have - I think this pc had a problem even before the update attempt. The XP disk that you have - is this a full installation version and not recovery disk ? Have you checked in the BIOS to see if the CDROM is the first boot device ? If you have a full installation disk we can try a Repair Install first.
  11. All good info Nev :) Just one more thing - laptop drives are 2.5 inch hard drives NOT 3.5 inch that is used in desktop machines. Any adapter would need to fit the smaller hard drive. EDIT: Just found hard drive specs - it would seem to be a SATA drive. We would need to confirm this with you when you take it out.
  12. I remember now - we covered this earlier in the thread. If the SP is less than 1a ( or no service pack ) then you need to start with SP1 or 1a then install SP2 > SP3. This would be my advice. It is not available any longer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909848 Take a look here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspx I use this. It is free. Your installation of XP would need to be a legal one as Essentials checks. Avira is good too. http://www.avira.com/en/for-home There is a free version. You should not use the web if you don't have an up-to-date AV.
  13. You will need something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/IOMAX-SATA-Adapter-Power-Drive/dp/B001A5SK56/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317070346&sr=8-1 It is an adapter that you can attach the hard drive to then connect it to a USB port on the desktop. You may then be able to access the drive just as you would a memory stick. There is no guarantee - it depends on the condition of the drive. The adapter shown is multi-purpose for various types and size of hard drive. It may be possible to find a cheaper version of the adapter if you can let us know if the hard drive in the Lenovo is SATA or IDE. Probably IDE if you have XP on it - but we need to confirm.
  14. Please use the REPLY to THREAD button below and not the PM system to reply. Try this number: 0800 018 8354 If you hold and wait you should get to talk to a person. I state again - If a new m/board has been fitted and the installed OS was an OEM you may not get very far with Microsoft.
  15. Thanks for the feedback. This will, no doubt, be of help to others.
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS I found this re. your system: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd530/en/OM/HTML/appendix.htm#wp1052310 This will do the job if it has 2 video outputs however - I can't find one for sale. http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-8400GS-nVidia-Express-Graphics/dp/B000SAIQWQ I did, however, find an 8600GT http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0039EZV4E/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B004TRYE5C&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=04HDD2J50DXV7H6NMWCF Now a question for you: What connections do you have on the monitor cables? They could be VGA / DVI / HDMI If they are VGA the card shown has 1 VGA and 1 DVI You can, however, get an adapter. http://www.qvs.com/images/DVI-Flat_VGA_ADAP.JPG One more question: What is the wattage of your Power Supply Unit. The 8600GT does not require much - but your PSU must be up to the job. 350 Watts should be fine.
  17. Start > Control Panel 1- In your Internet Explorer Options > Advanced ......... are your Java applets enabled? 2- Still in your IE Options, Security > Customize, ........are your Java scripts enabled? Launch IE 3- In Tools > Manage Add-ons ....... check if Java / Shockwave / Flash are enabled. You may need to click on the down arrow to view "Add-ons that run without requiring permission"
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am not familiar with Virtualbox. You say you put the 95 CD in the drive. Win95 and Win98 needed a startup floppy disk prior to using the CD.
  19. Have you paid for Norton 2012 - or is it a trial installation ? If it is a trial - I would uninstall and put on MS Essentials or Avira ( both free ) None of us here use a paid for AV - there are some excellent free ones available. 1. Did you check to see if there was a setting that you could alter? 2. Is it ALL web-based video or a specific site ?
  20. Yes. The Recovery would take the system back to factory settings - in other words what was on the system when you bought it. It may have come with Service Pack 2 installed as this was released in 2004 but you would need to install SP3.
  21. This is a bit unfair ! Nev said he wasn't using Norton 2012 and suggested: Did you check the settings?
  22. You are welcome - thanks for the feedback. Strange solution - but if it works for you :)
  23. This "Infinitum" disk is illegal. It is available only by torrent download. If you search "infinitum" on the MS website - it comes up with nothing. The legal editions of Win7 are: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/products/compare
  24. One more option: Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ....ENTER Click the + next to DVD CDROM Right click on the drive > Uninstall Then reboot. This will remove the drivers and Windows will locate "new hardware" re-install the drivers on re-booting.
  25. Not at all. This is a members' forum - jump in where you can :)
