  1. Older versions of MS Office would be able to open the Open Office files as long as you take the trouble to save them in a format that can be read by MS Office. i.e .doc extension for Word documents. Regarding email and PDF attachments: Take a look here: http://ask-leo.com/just_how_secure_is_email_anyway.html I don't think attaching PDF is any more or less secure than any other format.
  2. The drivers for your machine are here: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/download/supportDownloadMain.do There are 2 options for n150 10.1 Stylish Design Plus 10.1 The version is a little different for each ( VGA Intel ) And the d/l size is slightly different too You need to decide which one you have.
  3. If you save the files in MS Word 97 format ..say ( .doc extension ) older versions of MS Office ( Office 2003 for instance ) would be able to open them. How do you mean? Are you trying to limit access to PDF files from other people who use the system?
  4. Take a look here: http://messengersupportspace.wordpress.com/2009/05/29/clean-installation-of-windows-live-messenger-–-windows-xp/
  5. Did you try this?
  6. Hi, How did you delete it? Download CCleaner from here: http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER Run it on the default settings. DO NOT use the Registry Options.
  7. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have spent some time trying to find detailed information re. your m/board and have not had much luck. I can get basic info - but not what I am looking for. Can you post a link to this please? The m/boards in this series are given names like "Florida" / "Napoli2" Do you know what name is attached to yours? The m/board usually has Letters next to the appropriate connections - PWR SW for instance. They are usually in a line too - not spread around the m/board.
  8. I have Windows Office and Open Office. Open Office is a fantastic (free) piece of software. It is compatible with MS Office and will open MS Office files. MS Office however will not open the default file extension used by Open Office. ODF Text Document (.odt ) - for Word Processed Documents. You can, however, save documents in other formats that MS Office can recognise. Select from the drop-down menu as normal.
  9. Hi, Switch off at the wall - leave the plug in to maintain the earth ( ground ) connection. Disconnect the monitor and the printer - and any other external hardware. With a known good PSU connected and everything stripped off the m/board ( RAM / Sound / Video cards etc. ) Disconnect the Hard Drive and DVD CD ROM power connections and also the data cables at the m/board end. Leave ONLY the 24 way connector from the PSU connected. Switch on at the wall and try to boot. You should get POST beeps. If you do - this is good. Put the hardware / connections back one at a time and test boot after each one. (the beep pattern may change but it should still POST) Do this until the problem is replicated - you have identified the problem hardware. Put RAM in one at a time. If you get no POST beeps when it is stripped down unscrew the m/board ( don't lose the stand-offs ) Sit it on a piece of card / newspaper and try booting again. If it POSTs this time there was a short between the m/board and the case. Look for lose screws or even a buildup of dust. If you get no POST beeps at all you have a problem with eithere the PSU or the m/board. As you say the PSU is known to be good - you have a problem with the m/board specifically.
  10. Sorry about the System Restore - looking for a quick fix :) Smart time lock RPMdeamon.exe These are both linked with Gigabyte software. Have a look to see if you have Smart6 installed. If so - try removing it and see how your system performs.
  11. Good to hear that you got there in the end :)
  12. Let us know how you get on.
  13. Download MBAM from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button Install > Update > Run Let us know if it finds anything.
  14. Hi Mums and welcome to ExTS Try System Restore Start > Type in .....system restore ....ENTER Select a date prior to the start of your problem. Be aware that your data, photos, files etc will be fine. You will, however, lose any downloaded updates or installs after the selected date.
  15. Hi Spike27 and welcome to ExTS Switch off at the wall. Leave the plug in. Strip the machine down and remove all of the cards and major connections. Take out the RAM, Video and Sound cards etc. Disconnect the Hard Drives, DVD CD ROM data and power supplies etc. Leave ONLY the 20(4) way connector from the PSU connected. Switch on. You should get POST beeps ( if there is an internal speaker connected ) The machine should be stable - it will not boot- but it should be stable. Is it ? If it is - put the cards back one at a time. Try booting after each. You will soon find the problem piece of hardware if you replace the cards etc one at a time.
  16. In your first post you stated ... This implied to me that the connection had been dropped. The piece of code I gave you will constantly ping 8.8.8.8 - keeping the connection "live". As stated - it does not fix the problem ( as such ) but may stop the connection dropping ( if this, in fact, is the case ). Either way - it will do no harm to try. This error seems specific to that particular make of router. If you haven't had it long I would take it back and swap it for a different make. Is this an option?
  17. Let us know how you get on :)
  18. They are both makes. Correct. Many Dell systems use BTX motherboards ( not the usual ATX ) If you have a Dell then you will need to be very careful that you get a compatible PSU. BTX was introduced around 2005. Prior to that it would have been ATX The FY628 is Dell compatible. 300Watt It is compatible with your machine. http://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Dell-300watt-Inspiron-Mini-Tower/dp/B00450CT8M
  19. Let us know how you get on. Most systems will function OK with 600W If you were running 2 high end Video Cards you would need more :)
  20. I didn't say it would fix the problem - I said it was a work-around and I also used the word "hopefully". I would have thought an ICT Technician would understand that. (The Student Room)
  21. OOps - sorry about that. I assume that you have enabled it again and set the NAT value to maximum ? Try this work around: Get internet access. Start > type in cmd .....ENTER At the prompt type in : ping 8.8.8.8 -t -l 1 This will constantly send 1 byte and hopefully keep the connection live. Don't close the box - shrink it.
  22. Put the Disk into the CD ROM drive and switch on. Press F12 immediately after the Dell logo appears. This should give you options to select the CD ROM as a boot device for this boot only. Let me know how you get on with this option :)
  23. Hi, Does this help? http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/
  24. I don't use btinternet but did find this: Go to your BT Homepage > log on > click on 'mail' > click on the 'contact' tab. There you will see import / export at the top right hand corner of the page. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you will see 'Export' and 'Choose the program you want to export to and click the corresponding button. If you are unsure at this stage let me know what is listed under the "Export" options.
  25. This may explain the shutting down. If your 3rd wire is the grey one - this is the "Power Good". Basically it goes to 5v if all is well with the PSU. If it drops down from 5v then the m/board will shut down. If the connection is suspect - this could explain the random shut-downs. This is a symptom of overheating - they go brittle. It looks like a new PSU is needed. Is the connection on the m/board still good ?
