  1. Thanks for the extra information - I am sure somebody else will need this at some time :)
  2. You do have the DVD CD ROM as the first boot device in the BIOS ? If not - it will boot windows and ignore what is in the DVD drive.
  3. I hope J-B doesn't mind me butting in ? It sounds like there is a connection problem with the 20(4) way connection. The darker pins are probably due to arching ( poor connection ). What colour are the wires connecting to the problem pins? (Not that it matters) http://www.rctech.net/forum/attachments/radio-electronics/406268d1231926791-good-dc-ice-power-supply-atx-power-connector.jpg With a small jeweller's screwdriver you should be able to open the offending pins on the m/board connection - just a little - but enough to make the connection positive again. (Assuming that yours are split as per the ones in the picture)
  4. http://www.akadia.com/img/zyxel_mode2.gif There should be an option to uncheck the "Active Network Address Translation" ( NAT ) If you get any problems then go back and put a check in the box.
  5. Antec is another good option. If you are in the UK I have used Dabs.com
  6. Did you try making the number of NAT sessions blank - i.e no number at all ?
  7. Hi, Thanks for the feedback. Just for confirmation: Did you delete the lower filters to correct the problem?
  8. This relates to the member's other post .... http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/12218-trying-to-save-my-contacts-to-a-pen-drive
  9. Hi, On reading your description the first thing that came to mind was PSU - in this respect J-B and I are in agreement. You could try taking the RAM modules out and try them one at a time. Also check for a buildup of dust.
  10. Can you confirm that you have tried all of the above please? Booting Battery only Booting with power supply only ( no battery ) Booting with no ram / 1 module / the other module What were the results ? Any changes in the boot problem ?
  11. Hi, If you are having problems formatting the drive using a disk try this: Take the drive out of the machine and connect it to the second machine as a slave. If this is an old machine it will probably have an IDE data cable ( broad grey ). If the second machine has an IDE drive too then the drive you want to format will need to be set as a slave using the jumper on the back of the drive. Once you have it slaved, the drive can be accessed just as you would a memory stick. If you then Start > Run .....type in ......diskmgmt.msc ........ENTER You will see both hard drives. Right click on the one that you wish to format and select "Format" from the drop-down menu.
  12. Before you go down the road of formatting and reinstalling you may have data / files that need to be retrieved from the drive. Do you? It may well be possible to get at these ( relatively easily ). ================ You have restore disks AND a copy of Vista ( full installation ) ? You put the restore disks in the drive - what happens? Do any DVDs CDs work?
  13. Hi, From your email client ( Outlook Express ? ) if you click on "Attach" and browse to the jpg that you want to send and click on this you can attach one or more jpg files. The person receiving the files will only have access to the ones you have sent.
  14. Hi, Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing them again?
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS Your manual for the router is here ( I think ) http://us.zyxel.com/upload/download_library/201008230931232010082309262320040811211941_20101203_1.1_ed1-P-660HN-51_UG_v1-10_ed1_2010-11-29.pdf Take a look at p145 You can try increasing the default number to the maximum or Make the number of NAT sessions blank and click "Apply" This should deactivate the limit set and hopefully solve the "has exceeded the maximum number of sessions per host" problem.
  16. Why do you want XP ? The XP OS is un-supported by MS ......and Vista, with all of its faults, is a much better OS in my opinion. As Nev says, you will need the XP recovery disks or a full installation disk. If you still want to go ahead let us know which XP disk you have.
  17. Hi Sharon and welcome to ExTS :) The manual for your m/board is here: (if you don't have it) http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1366/P6X58D_Premium/#download Scroll down to the bottom of the list of options for the English version. I am thinking that it may be something to do with the Power Settings in the BIOS ( see chapter 3.7 ) You can reset the BIOS to defaults by removing the CMOS battery for 1 minute and replacing. (I assume that you have no specific BIOS requirements other than standard settings ? ) Let me know if this helps.
  18. Sorry for slow response - I have been on holiday. Are you still having problems with this ?
  19. Hi woodbug Sorry to hear that you are having problems with 2 computers after a surge. The one that you can boot up may be usable after a little work. As Randy has said, chances are there is some damage to the m/board. The message you are getting refers to the Video Adapter - Is your graphics poor? Right click on the screen > Properties What is the resolution set to and can you alter it ? ( probably not ) I am thinking that a new video card ( inexpensive one ) may ( emphasis on "may" ) solve the graphics problem. You could try re-installing drivers for LAN card. Chances are this may have been damaged too. How do you connect to the net? Wireless / wired ? =============== Regarding your other computer - it may be possible to get data / photos / files from the hard drive if you need them. Do you have data that you need access to on this drive ?
  20. Hi, Take a look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2964.html It should help :)
  21. Hi RachieA, I posted this earlier .... many thanks for the feedback - it is always good to hear when a problem gets solved :)
  22. Take the battery out - to eliminate it completely. Not entirely true. If the Arctic Silver thermal paste (or similar) has broken down - it could result in a quick shut down. Try taking the RAM modules out and running on one only. If the problem persists - replace the active RAM with the other one. You could try blasting it with a can of compressed air through the vents. Dust can cause all sorts of probems. If, after trying the above, you still have problems, as J-B has already suggested, a visit to the local tech seems to be the only other option.
  23. Start ....type in the search box ......diskmgmt.msc .....ENTER What is listed against D:\ It sounds, as J-B has suggested, like a BIOS setting.
  24. Hi, You don't have a DVD CDROM drive? This is normally D:\ In diskmanagement - is the drive Active and Healthy ?
  25. Hi and welcome. If you contact Dell they should be able to provide you with a Recovery Disk to reinstall to factory settings. It may cost you a little - but not too expensive.
