You mentioned in an early post about getting data from your hard drive. take a look here it would do the job. There are cheaper ones about. I have this one and it copes with all options.

I know it is confusing if too many people contribute ..... Dalo - I am thinking along the lines of ...... Madon37s said earlier that he is getting no POST. If a PCIe Video Card is not available - if the original card is removed ( assuming a fault ) then when attempting to boot a POST error should be indicated via beeps. No beeps at this stage could indicate PSU / Motherboard problem. Strip down m/b to 20(4) connection to test. I hope this does not add confusion to the thread :)

It is unlikely, from your description, that you will be able to access the Advanced Startup Options ......but when you switch on did you tap f8 about once per second. Timing is critical with this option. Do you get any POST beeps? If not I would be inclined to take the RAM modules out and give the contacts a clean with a pencil eraser. Put just one module in and switch on. If this fails try it in the other slot then try the other by itself in both slots. Take the Video Card out ( RAM modules now back in place ). Clean the Video Card contacts. Try booting up without the Video Card. You should get Beeps. Try booting with the card in place. Let us know the outcome of the above. A cheaper option than a caddy is a USB adapter. Do you have a SATA or IDE drive?

I can only echo Plastic Nev's words - it is a pity that we could not get to the bottom of your problem. I am sure you will be happy with Win7 - any problems ....Plastic Nev has recently moved to Win7 too :)

If this is the case then the problem could be with the jack socket. If you waggle the plug when it is connected do you get anything from the speakers? If you do then it is possibly a dry joint that can be re-soldered.

It may be worth investing in a can of compressed air and giving the inside a cleaning. It could be a small piece of paper that is lodged. it could be dirt / dust.

Correction: The 100Mb partition does contain boot files but they are for backup / troubleshooting purposes. Sorry for any confusion.

The 13.00GB recovery partition contains files that would allow you to restore the hard drive to the condition it was in when Windows 7 was first installed. You could use this if you had a severe problem with the present installation of Windows. 291.62 with 291.16 free Primary Partition - known as DATA (D:\) This is an area of your hard drive that you could use to save data / photos etc to. Treat it as you would a giant memory stick. 291.45 with 231.23 free Boot, Page, File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition Packard Bell (C:\) This is the drive that you have Windows and the rest of your installed software on. 100.00 with 72MB remaining System, Active, Primary Partition SYSTEM RESERVED Windows 7 uses 100Mb of your hard drive space for Boot Files. These are essential files and Win7 would not boot up without them. Hope this answers some of your question.

If you post the make and exact model number of your machine somebody here should be able to find the drivers for you.

Hi, According to this spec your 400W PSU should be fine. (if this is your card? ) PSU - is it good? For $15 I would say it is good value for money. It is not a known brand such as Corsair / Antec and may not be as reliable.

Hi, When this problem started had you made any changes? New hard drive for instance? Can you add anything that may explain what happened to create your problem? Can you please confirm the following: 1. You only have 1 hard drive 2. This hard drive is an IDE drive ( with a broad grey data cable ) 3. Can you confirm that this is connected to the Primary IDE1 ( blue ) socket. 4. You have disabled Onboard Promise Controller. 5. The Operating Mode ( BIOS ) is set to IDE. Try booting again. Are you getting EXACTLY the same messages now?

I have already stated that all BIOS are not the same but try this: Go into BIOS again: If there is an "Advanced" tab - click on this. "Onboard devices configuration" "Onboard Promise Controller" If you can locate this - disable it > Save and Exit. It may not be this precise location. Search around - you are looking for "Promise Controller" to disable.

Hi, You say that you have an IDE drive. Raid is associated with SATA drives. Try changing that "Operating Mode" setting to IDE

When you switch on do you get the message in the bottom left of screen.. "Press *** to enter Set-up" ? Asus m/boards are usually DEL to enter BIOS. I have read that some use the Ins key ( top row of keyboard usually ) When you switch on try tapping the DEL key about once per second. Let us know what the screen prompt says about entering Set-up.

Hi, I suspect, as you do, that you have a copy. There is no way that a genuine copy of Office 2007 will be infected. If it is a "good" fake then Microsoft will, as you suggest, provide you with a replacement. You will need to provide MS with specific information. Your motherboard supports both IDE and SATA drives. Take the panel off and have a look at the data cable from the motherboard to the hard drive. If it is a broad one with 80 wires it is IDE. If it is a narrow cable see here it is SATA. Let us know which you have. Checking the Boot Sequence: Switch on and on the first screen press DEL. ( could be f2 or other ) If DEL doesn't do it you will get a prompt bottom left that says " press *** to enter set-up" Once in the BIOS use the arrow keys to navigate. Locate Boot Order ( or similar ) Every BIOS is different. Check that the DVD is the first in the boot order and that the Hard Drive is second. If this is not the case then you can move the device up or down using (usually) + or - There will be instructions on the screen. If you do make any changes - Save and Exit ( usually f10 ) - again you will be prompted.

These 2 error messages imply that there is a setting in the BIOS that is not correct. From what I can gather - the Fast Track Controller is linked with RAID If your hard drive is IDE - do you have RAID enabled in the BIOS? If so - try disabling it. Is your motherboard ASUS ? Whilst you are in the BIOS check the Boot Order. DVD should be first in the Boot Order followed by the Hard Drive.

Your list from Device Manager shows "Legacy Audio" Yet you say that you have a Soundmax card installed ?? Do you have a PCI sound card ( actual sound card - not on-board ) and if so can you confirm the make and model number from the card itself please.
