  1. The driver software does not uninstall when you take the drive out. Was this the reason for replacing the original drive? How did you uninstall the drivers?
  2. Good to hear your problem is solved. Nice one Scotty :)
  3. If you have a sound card it will be sitting in one of the slots on the motherboard. (Probably the white PCI slots) There will be something written on the card to identify it. If there is no card - you have on-board sound and the drivers may well be on the chipset drivers CD.
  4. You will need to install the sound drivers. Do you know the make and model of the sound card if you have one ? If not: What is the make and model number of your machine?
  5. Hi and welcome to fpch. There are basically 2 types of connection you could have: SATA or IDE IDE is the older of the two and uses a broad ( usually grey ) data cable that has 80 wires in it. SATA ( relatively recent ) has a much smaller data connection. See the link here: http://www.laptopparts101.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sata-ide-laptop-hard-drive.jpg I suspect that your old hard drive is the IDE one and you have bought a SATA one. ( hope the pic helps )
  6. When connected to the router via ethernet cable If you open IE. Type in the address bar at the top.... 212.74.99.30 Does this open TalkTalk web page? I really do not recommend PC World for repairs - you are far better with a small one-man concern who has to rely on his reputation. Stick with it here - lets see what I and the others can do first.
  7. Hi betpet I have relatives in Amlwych :) Can you confirm please.... You cannot connect to TalkTalk at all ? You can connect to the internet via your modem ? Can you connect via ethernet cable through the TalkTalk router? With your TalkTalk router connected Open Internet Explorer. Type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. The user name and password are both ......admin Click on the Advanced button. Click the + next to Basic > then click on WAN Settings Scroll down to MTU Option. This should be set to 1432 bytes Is it?
  8. Hi and welcome to fpch
  9. Thanks for the feedback :)
  10. If the disk you have is the full installation version of XP you can do a repair install of the Operating System. See here: How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install Scroll down to "Repair Install of XP" Before you start go into Set-up ( the BIOS ) and make sure that the DVD/CD ROM is set as the first boot device. The repair install shouldn't affect the data that you have on the drive but if you have any important stuff you may want to try getting to this first. There are one or two things we can advise on if you wish to do this first.
  11. Is this happening with all USB ports or just one particular one ?
  12. As this is XP Pro - do you have the installation disk?
  13. You could try a System Restore to the 11th or 12th September. Start > Run .....type in ....msconfig .....ENTER Click on "Launch System Restore" Follow the restore wizard and select a date ( dark blue ) that is just prior to the start of your problem. Your system settings will restore to that date. Your data / photos etc will be fine.
  14. Try the link in post #4
  15. try number 371 from here: Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP Assuming you do have XP ?
  16. Hi and welcome to fpch Start > Run ...type in .....devmgmt.msc.....ENTER Click the + next to Sound Video .... Are there any yellow exclamation marks / red Xs ? The drivers for your system are here: HP Compaq dc7600 Ultra-slim Desktop PC- Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center You may want to try re-installing the drivers - especially if you have a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager.
  17. Happy Birthday P - you kept that quiet :)
  18. Hi and welcome to fpch If you have changed the PSU for a known good one then I suspect that the problem lies with the motherboard. Switch off at the wall - leave the plug in to maintain the earth / ground. Take all cards ( RAM / Sound / Video etc etc ) off the motherboard. Disconnect the power connections to the DVD and Hard Drives. Disconnect the DVD and Hard Drive data cables from the motherboard. Leave only the 20(4) way connector from the PSU connected. Switch on. You should, under normal circumstances, get POST beeps. (assuming that your onboard speaker is working and you used to get one beep after switching on ). If you don't get POST then your problem lies with the m/board ( assuming your PSU is good ) If you do get POST then put the cards / connections back one at a time until the problem is replicated.
  19. As Nev says - laptops of any kind are extremely difficult to work on. You could try taking the hard drive out and putting it back again - making sure that the connections are good. You could also try the same thing with the RAM module(s). You should find both behind panels on the underside of the housing.
  20. Can you attach an external monitor to that particular laptop? If you can - and the graphics are OK - then you have a problem with the screen connections.
  21. Acer 5633WLMi Price: Acer Aspire 5633WLMi Laptop LX.AG50J.169 - Acer Direct You may be able to get it cheaper elsewhere but £250 does sound too good to be true.
  22. Hi Dalo ..... I was refering to the poster's comments on post 1 & 3 re. Acer Aspire etc. I think the poster was dismissing the mac as being too expensive.
  23. There is a distict difference in price - £689 for £250 Are you sure the ebay seller is providing a new machine and not refurbished ?
