  1. Hi Trev, Yes - assuming that the CD is able to be read. If not - you may need to change the Boot Order in the BIOS so that the CDROM is first in the order. This link explains how to install - click here There is a NEXT button that is easily missed. :) If you need explanation on changing the boot order just ask.
  2. Hi George I have been doing a bit of reading .... Some low profile cards come with a short backplate. Some have the full-size backplate. Apparently the backplate can be removed and replaced with the full size one. The card that you posted in post #15 has the full width backplate and comes with an adapter for dual VGA monitors. ( Some cards come with both backplates ) This video explains - If you were happy with the card in post #15 - it looks as if it will do the job. Let me know if I can help further.
  3. Hi Mike Let us know if you can see a drive letter allocated for that drive and also if you can access it.
  4. ??? :) Laptops are 2.5 inch Desktops 3.5 inch ( I assume that you knew that already :) )
  5. Hi Jim Thanks for the photo :) Teredo Tunnelling is a method of having ipV4 and ipV6 communicate. It looks like it needs installing. Take a look here - click here This explains far better than I can. If you end up at the Registry Fix and need further explanation ......just ask :) If you are not using ipV6 then we can disable ipV6 and the Toredo Tunnelling ....the problem should then disappear. I assume that your wireless and LAN ( wired ) connections are OK ? It looks like you have a USB problem too. Are the USB ports working ?
  6. Hi George Two options: Return the card unused for a refund Use it - and there will be a gap .which is not detrimental ( not sure how secure the card will be ) I wasn't aware that video cards with that DMS59 socket had a different ( shorter ) backplate. ( sorry :( ) If you decide to install it - will it be secure ?
  7. Hi Mike Disk Boot Failure ties in with the Corrupt Volume ...... it looks like a hard disk problem. I would be inclined to check the hard drive out. There are 2 ways you can do this. 1. - take the drive out and connect it to another machine using either an enclosure or an adapter. 2. - download Seatools for DOS ( ISO file that needs to be put on a DVD ) and use this in the DVD CDROM Drive The advantage of option 1 is that we can run more than one test and you MAY be able to access your files etc.
  8. Hi again Have you tried ( temporarily ) turning off your A-Virus and Firewall to see if there is any difference ?
  9. Hi Trev There is no legal download that I know of. You could borrow a disk from a friend / relative that is the same OS - i.e. XP Pro - and use this with the Product Key on the side of your machine. There are quite a few downloads available here - click here Not, I am afraid, the Operating System. If you do manage to install XP on that machine please be aware that XP is using SP3 ( a big update ..... still available ) Some installations install SP1 or SP2 eBay will have an XP Pro disk - click here If you choose this option be careful what you buy. Looking at some of these they are obviously copies. There is another option. You could install a version of Linux - a totally free operating system. There are lots of options ... one or two even look a little like Windows. Obviously it would take a bit of getting used to - but it would be a free OS and legal :)
  10. Hi George That card certainly is short - is it too wide to fit through the slots that are showing? I can't see - I assume that one of these slots aligns with the PCIe x 16 slot on the motherboard ?
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS You are right to remove the "illegal" copy of Win7 - if that is what it is. As you have recently bought it - if it was from a retailer then Microsoft would be interested to know who. Also you would be entitled to your money back - if this is what you want. M$ would be able to tell you if the installation was illegal or not. If you simply want to revert to XP there are a few issues that you should be aware of. Microsoft have stopped all support for XP as of earlier this year. There are no more critical updates and as such the XP operating System becomes more prone to attack. Anti-Virus companies are also removing support gradually - although you should still be OK for a couple of years. Having said that - there are millions of people who are still using XP. If you need to buy a installation disk then I would opt for Win7 - if in fact that machine supports Win7. We can explain further if you wish to take this route. What do you need to do? You need a legal copy of XP. This is one that is not installed on another system. If you have this we can explain in a bit more detail where to go from here. If you have any files etc. on the Win7 machine that you need it may be a good idea to back then up now whilst we are thinking about it.
  12. Hi Jim Any chance of a Screen Shot of Device Manager ? open D-Manager to the point where the yellow exclamation marks are and then press PrtSc button on the top row of your keyboard. Open Paint [ It is in Start > All Progs >Accessories ] Paste the screen shot in ( CTRL + V ) File > Save As ( select JPG extension ) > give it a name > Save to Desktop On here click reply > then click "Go Advanced" > click on "Manage Attachments" [ under the text box ...scroll down a bit ] Add Files > Select the JPG file from the Desktop > Open Bit long winded but at least we should be able to see what you are :)
  13. Any chance of a photo with the card close to the hole at the back of the machine ? or next to the existing card ?
  14. Too small ?? How do you mean? The PCIe x 16 connection is the same the only thing that varies is the height of the card. Are you trying it in the PCIe x 16 slot ?
  15. Good to hear that you got it sorted :)
  16. It may be of interest to those helping here to read through the previous posts on this problem: click here
  17. Did you post a link? I didn't get it. They are specific I am afraid. I could not guarantee that they would fit. With a desktop machine there is more scope and motherboards, generally, will fit any case. With any motherboard replacement if you don't replace with exactly the same model, there is a chance that the OS will not boot up as the expected hardware is different. What normally happens then is that you need to re-install the OS.
  18. Your link doesn't work for me Nev :(
  19. Hi Jim Start > right click on "Computer" [ This PC if it is Win 8 ] > Properties It should tell you there.
  20. No problem - let us know how you get on :)
  21. Nev has said it all re Advanced system care 7 and IObit Malwarefighter. My advice is the same as his - dump these and go for Malwarebytes ( Free ) - click here You seem to have missed my last post.
  22. Hi Jim I was asking if it is Dell / Acer / HP ................. and the model number. It is usually on a sticker on the case :) You can probably get the missing drivers from the manufacturer's website.
  23. Hi again jokia Firsty - there are no stupid questions. You are a bit confused and want answers - that's what we are here for :) Ray100 has said most of what I would. Let's check - post the make and model number of the laptop and we can check the specs. It would need at least one USB port for the data transfer cable from the printer to connect to. This is assuming that you opt for a "wired" printer. [ most laptops have this option ...but it is worth checking ] Also - it is worth checking to see if it has a wireless option - again most do. Do you have a wireless router ( wireless network ) in the house to connect to the internet ? If not - it may be an easier to go for the wired option. The set up for an "ad hoc" wireless printer is shown here - click here [ ad hoc = no router involved ] As you can see - it is not straight forward. If you follow the steps one at a time it should be OK. A wired printer simply connects to the laptop after you install the drivers ( CD ) that comes with the printer. Let us have the Make and model number of the laptop. Let us know if you have a router for internet connection please.
  24. Hi Yes - the Win7 disk will just format the drive and install over Win8. You will, obviously, lose everything on the hard drive. Make sure that you backup everything that you need from the drive before you start the installation. If the installation does not start - you may need to go into the BIOS and change the boot order so that the DVD CDROM is the first in the boot order.
  25. Hi Jim What is the make and model number of your computer please ?
