1. Hi again right click on E: ( the external drive ) and then click "Explore" Do the files show? If they do then you should be able to search around for the material that is wanted. If you cannot access the disk: Download Sea Tools for Windows from here onto a working computer. click here [ you will need to accept the End User Licence first.] Plug the drive in and check which drive letter has been allocated to the drive. Run Sea Tools on the specific drive. Sea Tools is provided by Seagate. There is a "User Guide" on the right side of the page. Sea Tools will give you various options. Some of them provide the option to "repair" problems that the test finds. You may be better selecting the "Fix All" option. This test will take hours to complete. Sea Tools "fail" a drive if it cannot repair any problems that it finds. Let me know how you get on. I am away for a few days - somebody else here may pick this up. :) If you have not received a reply by Tuesday or Wednesday send me a PM or simply post here. I will get an email.
2. Just a note: Only have one AntiVirus on your system at any one time.
3. Plug it in again - any machine / any Operating System Click on the Start Orb ( bottom left ) Click on "Computer" ........does the external drive show up as a drive letter? [ could be something like E: )
4. Whilst you are following Nev's advice ....do NOT, under any circumstances, format the drive as you will lose everything. EDIT - just read that Nev said this too. Better twice than not said at all.
5. Hi If 8.1 has been installed then there is no way back. It is not possible to use System Restore etc. If you have Win 8 on a disk then you could use this. If this has happened recently you shouldn't have any problems with 8.1. I waited a long time before I upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1 for the same reasons that you are expressing. I have had no problems at all with 8.1 Initially there were problems - I think M$ have sorted those now. Is the system running OK ?
6. I said I would buy you a beer on your birthday ......Happy Birthday Pete :)
7. Yes you did it correctly. You could try running sfc /scannow again. Sometimes it picks things up on the second scan that were missed on the first. Is your system still freezing ? Or was the freezing just a one-off ?
8. Looks as if your watch is correct to the second Nev ........twice a day :)
9. That accounts for the time taken then :)
10. Soooo.......it took you 4 hours to change a shoe and a cog to a sun and a square ????? :)
11. You are welcome - let us know how you get on and if we can be of further help you know where we are. :)
12. Thanks for confirming that Starbuck :)
13. Hi George It seems that you have 2 accounts with us. georgeriley georgeriley139 This is confusing. We can merge the two accounts for you. This will effectively add all posts together / use just one email address No posts will be lost. If you let us know which account you would like to keep we can merge the other into it.
14. The short answer is "Yes". This was a big update for XP and you need it for the security updates alone. I don't think SP3 is available for 64 bit installations of XP.
15. Hi, I am not a gamer and find it difficult to advise re: your last question. I THINK ...you will need at least an i5 processor. Your present CPU has a FCLGA 1155 socket. If you were upgrading using the same motherboard you would need to make sure that any CPU has the same socket. [ pin arrangement ] Regarding CPUs - your present one is just 2 core. The more cores ( generally ) the better regarding processing speed. You will need a much better Video Card - this will come with a more powerful PSU 8GB RAM should be OK If you registered on a gaming site the guys there would be able to give you far more informed advice. I hope this helps a little ?
16. Hi I have checked your system specs against those needed for Runescape. You should be able to play this on medium settings easily. I think your problem lies with the fact that you are playing 2 games at once. This will drain the processing power with the CPU / RAM and Video Card. Your PSU [ 480 Watts ] is fine for the Video Card etc that you have.
17. Just checked - I don't have this update on my system .....I will keep a watch for related problems though. Thanks for the heads up Starbuck :)
18. ǝᴉƃnop ʎɐpɥʇɹᴉq ʎddɐH Thought I would write it so that you could read it easily from where you are :)
19. I'm at a loss as to what to suggest next. It looks like a Registry problem to me but which key is causing it I am unsure. I will post back if I can find anything to add.
20. Hi Correct me if I am wrong. You have an SSD which is your main drive. You have an external hard drive. When you connect the external drive if you go to Control Panel > Programs and Features ( Win 8 ) you only see what is installed on C: [ i.e. the SSD ] Question: Are you absolutely sure that the installed programs on the external drive used to be visible ? Install Revo-Uninstaller from here - click here Scroll down to the bottom of the left column just below Version History Connect up your external drive. Run Revo. Does the installed software on the external drive show up here ?
21. Hi Jack CCleaner, itself, is generally OK. It does have a registry cleaning option that we do not recommend. If you have used this then it could be the cause of your problem. Try a System Restore to a date just prior to your problem. In Win8 this is not quite so straight forward as previous operating systems, click here Open the Search Box and type in ......system ...... "System Recovery Options" will be at the bottom. Your files / photos / data will be fine.
22. I don't understand I am sorry.
23. HI Bringe You got there in the end - ( combined effort :) ) Good to hear that your system is up and running.
