  1. Sorry - my error :) Thanks for the model number. Not yet - let me find the manual for your specific router. I will post back shortly.
  2. Hi Louise, £160 is a lot of money. Is he going to put Windows 7 on instead of Windows 8 ? If so then I suppose that this is reasonable - especially if he is installing Office etc. I don't know what he will be doing for 2 days ???? It takes a couple of hours at most to re-install an Operating system. Could you ask him to itemise exactly what he would be doing ? We would have a better idea then. I can build a machine from scratch in a day - so I am not sure where his 2 days comes from. Perhaps he means he will have it for 2 days - because these guys work on more than one machine at a time.
  3. Please answer the above. It will say on the label - this one says "Model TL WDR4300" ( just above the red box ) The N750 would help identify it too. There are different design labels - it will say on there somewhere. :) http://www.tp-link.com/resources/uploadfiles/images/image002bz.jpg 192.162.1.1 - there is nothing on the TP Link site that relates to this IP Address.
  4. :) :) If you can ping the router it seems odd that you cannot access it using the same IP Address. If you plug the ethernet cable direct from the laptop to the router can you access it now? Also try https://192.168.1.1 ............................note the addition of the s .........you can copy and paste this into the address bar. Do you have another computer that you can try ? Let me have the make and model number of your router please.
  5. Hi R3in and welcome to ExTS I seem to remember reading this somewhere else that only allows one post :) Start > ..type in ....cmd ...right click on cmd.exe that shows top left of screen ....click on Run as Administrator At the prompt type in .... ping 192.168.1.1 ..................... [ space after ping ] You should get 4 packets sent - 4 received and no losses ......do you? I assume that you have a wireless internet connection with no problems ? Let us know the make and model number of your router please. Good to see you here :)
  6. Another nice one Nev :)
  7. If I understand you .... You have a PDF document on your system ............you want to select text from a website .............. then you want to merge the two into one document with one click and print. I am not aware of any software that will do this. Others here may be able to advise further.
  8. You don't say what you are using to produce the letterhead and document. You could use a Template - so that you have your letterhead etc already designed > open the template and create your letter / document. See here - click here
  9. Hi I have just looked at the Speccy log again. It shows ... The specs for your machine show an NVidia GForce MT 555M click here and here Specs can vary - but there should not be 2 different video card drivers installed - they can conflict. If the NVidia graphics are on the original spec - uninstall the Intel ones from Device Manager. Install the MT 555M drivers.- it is this that should be showing in Device Manager not "Standard VGA" Again - ONLY if the NVidia were on the original spec.
  10. Perhaps he will now understand what millions of his customers go through on a regular basis :)
  11. This could be a setting in the BIOS. If the Boot Order is set to look at external devices first the system will scan the External Drive looking for an Operating System. Go into the BIOS and look for Boot / Boot Order / Boot Sequence or similar. If External HDD is first in the order move it down below your Primary Hard Drive. It is normal to have the DVD CDROM first in the order. The drive with the OS on it should be next. ============== I will leave synapse to advise further re the rest of your question :)
  12. That makes a big difference. If something was damaged or dislodged then you would see a problem immediately - not months afterwards. Those temperatures are fine - especially if the machine has been running for a couple of hours. Which driver is showing in Device Manager? Is there still a yellow exclamation mark ?
  13. Hi, This explains how to remove the RAM - click here ....... it is a PDF download [ There are some images if you scroll down ] Refer back to post #3 Try the RAM one at a time. Most laptops have 2 RAM modules - if yours only has one then you will obviously not be able to try "them" one at a time. Still take the time to clean the contacts and replace.
  14. Hi mithical - welcome to ExTS 1. Could you please let us know the model number of your H-P laptop please ? 2. kernel has asked for flash sequence of the CAPS LED - could you do this too please ? 3. This could be as simple as a build-up of dust. Suggest a can of compressed air and use short blasts through the vents. Long blasts tend to expel the propellant as a liquid. 4. This could also be a RAM problem. The RAM modules are usually situated underneath a removable panel in the base of the machine. Take them out - clean the contacts with a pencil eraser - replace just one module. Try this. If the machine does not boot up - try the other one by itself. Let us know how you get on. More information here - click here [ obviously not your specific machine :) ]
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) This could be a capacitor. When power is removed from a capacitor it slowly discharges - so again .....this looks like a capacitor creating the high-pitched noise. This should be rotating - so it is looking more like the PSU than anything else. Do you have a spare PSU to try ? The fact that you get an LED on the motherboard lit is no indication that the PSU is working correctly. ============= You could take a look at the motherboard capacitors. You are looking for discolouration or bulging tops. Take a look here - click here
  16. I think that will sort it Ray - let us know how you get on :)
  17. Hi and welcome If you have a question - just ask. We don't judge anybody for not knowing :)
  18. Hi Bob and welcome to ExTS :) I am a bit confused. You state ... Windows update will not work and displays error 80073712 Further on you state .... it fails and states go online for updates and try again When does the error 80073712 occur if the install asks you to "...go online ..." ? Can you still boot up ? Can you boot up in Safe Mode ? If so - boot up in Safe Mode with Networking. Try running the System Update Readiness Tool from here - click here This may also be of interest - click here
  19. Pop it in Ray. The Generic PnP Monitor is Windows - it knows there is a monitor connected ....but not which one. Install the drivers and see how things are then.
  20. According to the specs for your Samsung monitor the refresh rate is 75 Hz click here Some older monitors require a refresh rate of 60 Hz kernel may be correct. Check the refresh rate and if it is set at 75Hz change it to 60Hz [ assuming you are using your old monitor ] Also - we have no information on your old monitor so we cannot discover the exact resolution that it should be set to. If 1024 × 768 looks OK and is not giving any problems then stick with this :)
  21. If the OS is still installed on the laptop - this will be illegal too. [ Unless it is a license for multiple machines - which is unlikely ]
  22. It may be useful to run Speccy after you boot up then again half an hour or more afterwards. Post the two sets of results. The second may show a significant rise in temperature which may confirm Nev's theory.
  23. I am afraid that this doesn't tell us much. Code 43 is a very general error - it could be hardware related or drivers. If this is still disabled you will only be running on basic drivers. You said that you downloaded the drivers .... did you uninstall the old ones first? If not - download form here click here [ under VGA ] Save it to your desktop. Delete the device from Device Manager then re-install the drivers from the desktop folder.
  24. This could be because the resolution settings are not supported by your monitor. Boot up in Safe Mode ( Tap F8 after switching on ) Change the resolution to 1024 × 768. Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization > Display Resolution
