  1. This is always used as a last resort - and should only be considered AFTER all other options have been exhausted.
  2. Hi I think you are talking about "Crossfire" This is where you link up 2 Video Cards and get them to act together to produce better graphics. As far as I am aware - the two video cards need to be the same .....or at least come from the same generation. This is to say ..... You may be able to Crossfire a GTX 650 with a GTX 670 .....but not with the GTX 560 as it is a different generation. Another thing to think about is your motherboard ......... it may not support Crossfire anyway. I have posted a video on Crossfire for information ....
  3. Good point. I can't recall the number of times I have said this :)
  4. Another reason for having a time limit is spammers. If there was an open time on editing they could post what, to all intents and purposes, seemed like a genuine post then ....after a time when they think we have read it ... they come back and edit ( which doesn't show as a new post ) and add their spam. We have to have a reasonable time limit and 5 mins seems OK after posting to change your mind or add a bit. This could easily be extended to 10 mins if it was found to be too awkward ...but we do need a time limit for reasons already explained :)
  5. Just to add my support of what Randy has said already ..... The Registry is the heart of your operating system. Everything you add to your computer - be it a new mouse ....new software ....webcam .....everything .....has an entry in the registry. The system will not work without it. I would not trust a piece of software to scan my registry and decide what was needed and what wasn't. Some suggest that running a registry scan will speed up your system. This is not true ...you would see no change at all. Stay away from registry cleaners ....they do more harm than good.
  6. No problem Ray - I was too lazy to check ....so my fault :) Louise - the instructions for Resetting your PC back to factory settings are below: See page 60 of the manual http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Desktop/CM6730/E7593_CM6730.pdf This will automatically download the manual for you. Where it says "Select only the Drive where Windows is installed" this will be C:/ Drive [ or C:/ Partition ] Check that you have everything off the Win 8 machine as this will take the system back to the way it was when it first came out of the box. If you need any more help - just ask :)
  7. Hi Louise Please post the Make and model number of the Win 8 laptop. They are all a little different when it comes to Recovery to Factory Settings. We can look it up and give you accurate advice knowing the Make and Model :)
  8. Let's know how you get on Mark :) I know the last one I bought came with a CD - and it wasn't expensive.
  9. Hi Mark and welcome to ExTS One solution is to buy a WiFi USB Adapter. click here You would need to make sure that the adapter came with the drivers on a CD. Some suggest that they are "Plug and Play" ...I would suggest that XP may not have the drivers pre-installed. Is this a possibility ?
  10. Hi It depends on what you buy by way of a Windows 7 disk. The general rule is .....one disk ....one computer There are versions of Win 7 available for about £60 You can, however, get a "Family Pack" for Win 7 Home Premium. This allows up to 3 computers to be upgraded from XP or Vista to Win 7 Home Premium. click here This is an upgrade disk. You may wish to pay a little more and have an original installation disk for each machine. ======== I assume that you have run Win 7 Upgrade Adviser to check that the XP machines can support Win 7 ? click here
  11. Hi Louise Once you have saved everything you want to onto the memory stick - put it in the Win 7 machine and make sure that you can open the files etc. Once you have checked you can then go back to the Win 8 machine and delete everything that you do not wish others to see ....or ....you can use the recovery disks or recovery partition to take the Win 8 machine back to factory settings ......how it was when you first bought it.
  12. Good to hear - was it Revo that did it for you ?
  13. Hi Louise Just to confirm what Ray has already told you ... If you stored photos on the Win 7 machine ...and you can see them from the Win 8 machine they must be stored in "Cloud" or a similar internet based storage facility. Is this the case ? Similarly with your emails. I know from your previous posts that you have an internet based email account. This means that you ( and only you ) can access them from any computer .....presumably you have to log in to see them ? If this is the case then your emails are not stored on either computer. You may still have files / folders on the Win 8 machine. Point the mouse curser to the top right corner of the screen ....then click on the Search Option ( the magnifying glass ) Type in the word ......documents ..... now hit ENTER This will give you access to all files / folders On the left side it will also show Music - Photos etc. Take a look in these too - just to make sure that you have nothing stored there. Whatever you want to take off you can transfer to a memory stick. Ask if you are unsure about this or if you need further explanation. :)
  14. Hi Try Revo-Uninstaller from here - click here You want the FREE version. Install and run it. It will list all installed software on your system. If the offending program is listed simply highlight it and select "Uninstall" from the toolbar. The default settings should be enough.
  15. These posts hijacked the other thread - I have moved them to the XP forum ........they are better here :)
  16. Hi Please answer Ray's questions as all is not lost yet :) 1. Try the ISO image of Seatools that I posted earlier. There is an explanation how to use it on the website - but it is relatively straight forward. 2. If you have recovery disks ( asked by Ray ) then you can still use these on another new hard drive. 3. If you have Win 7 on your system it is possible to download an ISO version of this and install it onto a new hard drive - all legally. 4. it may be possible to gain access to the drive as Ray suggests - let us know if you want to do this. Nev suggested this in post #2 Lots of questions ...... please get back to us with your answers :)
  17. Sorry to butt in Nev ........... You can test your hard drive without taking it out if you prefer to do it this way. Download Seatools for DOS from here - click here Burn this ISO to a CD. Put the CD in the drive and switch on. It should boot from the CD and run a test on the drive. Any "fails" the drive is dead or dying. If it doesn't boot - check that the CDROM Drive is first in the Boot Order in the BIOS. ( we can explain how to do this if necessary )
  18. Welcome from me too :) In addition to what Nev has suggested: Download Speccy from here: click here You want the FREE option. Run it when you are playing the game. Before it crashes - make a note of the temperatures that Speccy is recording. Can you post the temperatures here please ? I suspect that the Graphics Card may be high.
  19. Thanks for the feedback Russ. Good to hear that you found the problem. Somebody else will obviously benefit from this. Welcome to ExTS :)
  20. Thanks for the update nightslicer - good to hear that you found the solution :)
  21. Enjoy Scotland :) I came up the M6 on Sunday and didn't have to slow down or stop once !! This MUST be a record.
  22. I think you have made the right decision. I don't think your emails were ever on your system - they were on AOL's servers. I am sorry that you could not re-claim them. It may be prudent to make copies of important emails and save them in a Word file on your system. ( I think this was suggested earlier :) ) If there is anything else you need assistance with - you know where we are.
  23. Hi Louise I know you are desperate to get at these emails but Ray has explained it all very well. Unless you know that they were saved onto your hard drive they are ( or were ) on the AOL server and not on your machine at all. Paying somebody to "recover" what is not there seems fruitless and expensive. Have you contacted AOL to see if they can provide you with copies of all emails between specific dates. I know where I used to work the IT guys could often retrieve "deleted" files etc from the servers. AOL are no different - they will have backup copies .....it is just a case of how co-operative they will be when you ask. I repeat again though ..... please be careful about asking recovery people to get back what may not be there. ( This is not a cheap process )
  24. Let us know how you get on.
  25. You seem fixated with forum rules. Could this be because you have broken rules elsewhere and been asked to leave ? We reserve the right here to delete any posts that are inappropriate - without giving a reason or explanation. You may have noticed that some of your posts are not in the public domain any more. Please make sure that what you post is factually correct.
