I updated my Windows 7 a couple days ago and now the internet doesn't work and cannot find my wireless connection (that is working), cannot print stating that it cannot find the printer, and I cannot back date it to the day before because it gives me an error message that it cannot complete the process. I have tried to troubleshoot multiple problems, but everytime I get the same error message that it cannot fix the problem and cannot locate anything. If someone can please give me some advice on how to fix this, I would really appreciate it. Thank you! View this thread

How can I get the Clock on the Windows Sidebar to work again? I have a Windows Vista 32-bit Computer. I uninstall IE-9 because the computer became sluggish and was having a lot of issues getting onto the Internet. Often times when the browser is launched, only a blank page comes up. At the same time Taskbar is indicates that it is waiting for the target website to respond. It is stuck in that mode for an extremely long time. So I went back to IE-8; but now the Clock on the Windows Sidebar stop working. How do I get it to work? Looking forward to your solution. DeMorius View this thread

Hi Gang, I know this question has been beat to death, yet I am suddenly left wondering after a trip to the PC shop for a major virus infection. I have W7 Home Premium w/all the updates & Essentials. According to quite a few posts, Essentials is pretty inclusive and adding another anti-virus (free or pay/Norton/Kapresky..etc..) may actually clash & either slow down and/or leave me even more vulnerable than OEM/W7 stand-alone Essentials. For the record, my hi-speed cable provider supposedly have their own built-in protection which I cannot do anything about, nor do I detect anything. I run Chrome as my main browser & installed a couple of tier apps that sound like they may at-least leave a smaller electronic foot-print: "Do not Track" , "Scramble my ISP" etc... So, I felt somewhat protected until I experienced my first real virus a week ago, which pretty much turned my desktop into a paperweight!! A trip to my local PC tech store & I was told I had 19 infections in all that needed to be flushed out along w/tons of unwanted popups and bloatware which for whatever reason didn't seem that obvious to me. The big question of course, should I really need to pony-up & pay for the most commonly known anti-virus software like Kapresky, or Norton??? Is there any decent freeware that actually work well w/current OEM W/7 Essentials like AVG for example?????? Thanks for your time, Ovenmaker View this thread

I've been trying to get Windows 8 Pro to update and I keep getting error code 80070052. I've tried doing the clean boot trick with msconfig. I've also let the troubleshooter "repair" some files. It always says it fixed the problem, but when I try again I get the same error code saying the Windows update is unable to complete with the number 80070052. The last time it checked for an update was on March 5, 2013. There haven't been any installations or system changes within that time period other than a patch for Norton Antivirus. I've never had trouble with Antivirus before, but I suppose there's a first time for everything. Is anyone else experiencing difficulty like this? My system is not a fresh install it's an upgrade to Win 8 just fyi. View this thread

I am trying to install update KB2538243 and it stops at 15% complete, then reboots. This update won’t install and is preventing 6 other updates from installing. I turn on laptop and Windows starts. Message “Preparing to configure Windows update, Do Not Turn off Computer.” After 15% complete, laptop shuts down then re-starts Windows. (Sometimes it shuts down a second time, restarts with same message and same shutdown at 15% complete.) Then the login box appears and I can open Windows. If I then select to update from the control panel, it says 6 updates were OK but a seventh failed; error code 643. Using MSCONFIG, I hide all MS services and reboot. Same update problem and same error code 643. New Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, i7-3667U, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD SanDisk SD5SG2256G1052E, Intel HD Graphics 4000. No programs other than Microsoft Office 2010 (and all of Lenovo’s bloatware) had been installed when the update failures began. I have since installed a couple of programs including Norton Antivirus 2013. Last successful update (MS Office 20110): KB2598243 32 Bit Edition 3/8/13 Last successful Windows 7 update: KB2739159 3/8/13 Six updates are pending: KB2761217, KB2732487, KB2732500, KB2762895, KB2647753 & KB2729094. KB2538243 has never installed and its failure keeps the above 6 updates unsuccessful. Before this update, many Windows 7 updates were successful, and there were also many failures. Failures started after installing updates: Last update before any failures: Intel Graphics adaptor WDDM1.1, WDDM1.2 HD Graphics 4000 3/5/13 2nd to last update before failures: MS Windows Defender KB915597 (Definition 1.145.1035.0) 3/5/13 3rd to last update before failures: last Windows 7 update KB971033 3/5/13 Used Microsoft’s tool "Automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update" tool . It reports that it has fixed Windows update components. Problem still exists. View this thread

I have not been able to successfully update Windows 7 since October 2012. I get an error reading of 800700C1. When I go to the microsoft site, it tells me I am not running a genuine version. I am. All software on my computer is genuine and paid for. The os was originally Vista and I upraged to W7. I have the product key. I have tried reinstalling W7, but keep getting the message that the version on my computer is more recent, so it won't upload. I am at a loss of what to do. View this thread

Hello, Can anyone at Microsoft make a decent repair for the windows 7 update error having to do with updating the system with SP1. The error code is 800B0100. I have read many forums and read up on all solutions. None have worked and I am at my wits end. The system is a Dell XPS 8300 windows 7 home 64 bit with 16GB of RAM, 1.5 TB hard drive, Intel i7-2600 CPU @3.40GHz. Everything from drivers is updated (manually). At this moment if a real solution is not available then all I ask is that someone please point out what is in the update and tell me if it's even worth the time to continue trying to find an actual (working) solution. I am a frustrated customer out of a whole community with the same problem and the solutions given are not helping and are only causing more frustration as they are being led in circles. Thanks for your time and help if any is actually given. View this thread

Running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium and all fine until recent batch of updates when mouse cursor statrted to jump and screen then froze. No luck with restore points so I had to resort to recovery using Acronis 12 full back up that i did at end of January 2013. Acronis recovery successful and computer seemed fine. Updated/patched Norton and ran full scan. Updated and ran Spybot - no problems found. Updated and ran Malwarebytes, again no problems found.Adobe and Java 17 updates advised and I installed these and then thought that I should check for windows updates.Ran windows update several times only to get following with cross in red shield:Windows could not search for new updatesAn error occured while checking for new updates for your computer.Error(s) found:Code 8024800A Windows Update encountered an unknown error.I clicked on get help and ran that fix it file. Seemed to indicate that it had found errors and presumably fixed them - Green tick showed along with fixed and no other issues flagged in log.Tried to run updates again, as instructed, and exactly same message.Windows driving me mad as have spent most of day working to get to this stage!Solution would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance View this thread

THIS IS A SECOND POSTING - I MAY HAVE JUMPED THE GUN AND POSTED IT AS AN "ANSWER" TO A QUESTION. I just upgraded to from a Gateway laptop (with XP) to a Dell 2305 Inspiron One desktop running Windows 8 Pro (took advantage of your pre-release sale for $39.95). This is a relatively new configuration and I can appreciate many upgrades, however re-installing software packages that ran fine of XP sometimes don't install smoothly and may leave modules open. Apparently the only way to close these is to Restart the system. #1 - UPGRADE AND RESTART: I keep getting a note that I need to BUY and register my WinZip 16 package even though I have a disk with an Activation Code on it. I think the original install was interrupted and left a file open ... so I restarted Windows 8. Of course, that means that you are Updating my Win-98 OS with SIX (6) THAT'S RIGHT, COUNT THEM, SIX upgrades -- stated about an hour ago and is still on "Update 2 of 6." I'm typing this on the Gateway laptop which obviously if I am going to want to do any business, I had better keep handy and functioning while Win-8 Pro grinds away installing upgrades. I need a way to by-pass the "UPDATE" function of a RESTART and let me do it at night when I don't need the computer. #2 - RESET START TO ORIGINAL: In installing something, I have lost "some" of the icons on the START screen (like Games, Photos, etc) although all of the packaged software that I loaded (like Windows Office 2010 and its sisters) work well. How do I return the Windows-8-Pro-supplied built-in functions to the Start Screen without having to re-install Windows 8 Pro or having to re-install my outside applications (like Corel suite)? BTW- the Dell is still "Installing update 2 of 6" as I have been typing. Should I RESTART it again? View this thread

I just had to restart my pc for a windows update, ok no problem I thought. then I saw what you usually see: windows is installing updates something% progress. but when it had to start up it seemingly crashed since it said it had to restore windows and failed doing so. then I had some options: -put pc off, -start win 8 anyway or -renew pc. (pc vernieuwen in dutch so I don't know wheather this translation is right) first I chose to start win 8 anyway there it said it couldn't and restarted again, said to be having to restore windows and again failed doing so tried again... same story. then I decided to let the pc be renewed. it took about an hour in total. and now my pc is normal again but everything is uninstalled (excepted the pre-installed programms which you get from your first start of he pc) and I'm frustrated. oh the C: has a map old.windows now but I don't know if I might be able to use it someway but to the first appearence the answer seems no. most likely I will probably just have to reinstall everyhing. and now my question: what the heck is going on? is this a windows 8 'killer update' like we had with windows 7?(that came in all the newsprograms back then) my pc is a (new!) Lenovo Z500 laptop (it has got awesome prestige so that can't be the problem) you can google it to see the systemprestige I guess. View this thread

Microsoft:Why don't you fix the errors caused by KB 2670838 instead of having my computer re-install it as part of IE 10 without giving me any warning that it was going to do that? This update has two effects on my system*; 1. For whatever reason, it turns the lower taskbar turquoise, 2. Explorer 9 or 10 and Chrome 25 get a 60 delay in information typed into them with internet speeds reminiscent of dial-up, while Firefox 19 ceases to function at all; The internet becomes essentially non-usable.I wasted an entire day on this two weeks ago including an hour on the phone with one of your technicians when it was first installed. He had no idea what the problem was and I eventually gave up and uninstalled it. My problems ceased immediately upon its removal.I had to go to an internet forum to learn that many people had these problems and how to set my updates to not automatically be installed. That proved to be no help as when installing IE10 this EVIL UPDATE (KB 2670838) just re-appeared again with no notice in your description that this might happen. Now I guess I will never install an update again since you provide no clues as to what it could do.* My system info:HP Envy, Windows 7 Home Premium, two screens attached using an HP usb notebook port replicator. Buy the way, this HP port replicator is a piece of garbage that has to be rebooted (the replicator - not the PC) as it freezes once or twice a day. But I thinks that's on HP - not you. Have repeated failure to successfully perform this "important" MS OneNote 2010 security update-32Bit on my Lenovo Z580. Keep getting above code which does not reference to anything I can find in self-diag feature or online in order to fix. Tried to unselect and hide the update, but it keeps returning. Is it because this is for "32-bit" and my laptop is 64? If so, why does MS keep sending it? Any ideas? Thx! View this thread

Windows could not check for updates automatically. Never happened before, this PC was inactive since Dec 24th, but has always worked prior to this error. Note, a java update was installed, the McAfee free install box was unchecked to prevent installation of that unwanted (please stop this, Oracle) program. View this thread

Ran Windows Update today (not since Feb 24 2013), and received error 8024000A. Tried solutions - reset System Restore to earlier date, which failed; reset to today's date; downloaded Microsoft Fixit Beta, ran the "fix" which didn't fix. Have no clue what this error code means and what I can do. Anyone find a solution? I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. Thanks! View this thread
