Running XP Sp3, NIS. Laptop has not been used for a while and when I run Windows Update, I get this message. I have applied every suggestion in this forum and elsewhere to no avail. Any help appreciated. View this thread

I have a laptop with Vista operating system. Suddenly I can no longer get updates. When I try I get error code 8024800A. Also what has Microsoft done to cause all of these recent problems with Windows Update?? View this thread

OK, I delayed updating XP to W7 until now. I find the first time there were more than 50 updates, including SP1, that were due. I checked the boxes for W7 updates and when the reboot started, a fatal error happened that was unrecoverable. I have since reinstalled W7, and applied SP1 manually. I now see that there are a few dozen updates to be applied, but I am wondering if there is a "cumulative" update available. I want to keep current, but am wary of applying multiple updates in one operation. Is there a date-order or other method of applying multiple updates. Thanks, View this thread

I have a big problem with this silverlight. it doesn't install properly and I can't remove it from the computer using the programme uninstall. I have for 3 days not been able to use my computer because windows freeze. It had finally stopped freezing after months of problems when loosing internet or the like or just beiong left untouched for some time. now it was working fine.the lates updates are forcing their way in, i have gone back to earlier version of windows, i have selected to install updates my self, and yet i can install all the updates exept for this silverlight. what is more frustrating is that I cannot remove it from the programmes. I went to uncheck all the available updates and yet when i try to swich off the computer it tells me not to switch off or unplug the machine installing update 1 of 1 - which is the silverlight and which again for the xxx time just stops installing and hang. I have tried to leave it over noight - no diference.I have no problem uninstalling other programmes.I have an upgraded version of 7 from Vista, lap top is 4 GB memory, View this thread

I was on my computer last night and somehow Home/sweetie got on my computer. I don't know how it got there but I can't get it off. I think it is something like malware. I am trying to search for updates but everytime I try, it fails and it says "There was a problem searching for updates." I tried using the troubleshooter and it says it repaired the issue but the problem remains. What can I do? View this thread

I upgraded to Windows 8 several months ago from Windows 7 (on-line/no disc). This week the system was installing the Windows update and shutdown normally. When I started it back up. I got the above message. When the system restarts itself, it trys the automatic recovery, but apparently it fails. After having to select the keyboard language, all I get is a troubleshoot and turn off option. Troubleshooting, I get the following: refresh - the Windows drive is locked, unlock it and try again reset - a required drive partition is missing system restore - can't specify which Windows installation to restore system recovery - internal error 0x80070002 at the command prompt, it shows x:windows/system32. I've started to have issues with my laptop when I start it up. It has to start 3 times, the first time it will say "Preparing to configure windows, do not turn off your computer" it will then shut down. Then the second time it says "Failure to Update, reverting changes", it will then shut down again. The third time it starts up it says "Failure to update windows, reverting changes" only then will it allow me to log in. I have had no other problems with my laptop other than this. Is there any solutions for this problem? I have checked for updates, installed mcafee security system and done just about everything! Any help would be useful. Thanks View this thread

My XP computer failed to install MS.Net Framework 3.5 SP a and .Net FRamework 3.5 Family update for .Net versions 2.0 thru 3.5 (KB951847) x86. The error code is 0x643. I disabled my antivirus (Avast) software before running the update. (I also seem to have another update (Update for Windows XP KB955759) that has not installed.) Can someone assist? View this thread

Hi,Problem with windows update, it always fails then takes forever to rollback the update, I have tried the other common answers, install updates one at a time, disable virus scanners etc, none of them work. Tried to contact Microsoft support and typically they want to be rip-off merchants and charge you to fix a fault with their product, so I am not entertaining that. I recently restored my Vista PC to factory copy and reapplied Windows Updates. I can not connect to internet wirelessly and found out it is due to imcomplete Windows Updates. I have SP 1 installed and Windows Update indicates there is no more updates to apply. But I want to get SP 2 to apply, so I can move to Internet Explorer 9. How do I continue with the rest of Windows Updates? Do I just to get the SP 2 from Windows Update Catalog directly? Are there any other updates needed prior to the Vista SP 2? Prior to this Windows Update repeatedly want me to appy SP 1 even it has been sucessfully installed. I had to hide that SP 1 update in order to move on. View this thread

I have downloaded Google Chrome for Windows 8. Saved the file to Downloads, but double clicking on the .exe file does not launch the setup. there is no Chrome app in Microsoft Store. Tried installing Firefox, too. Successfully saved .exe file, but it won't launch either. The directions at "Get Your Google Back" aren't working for me. Any help woiuld be appreicated. Hi! I had 5 updates which appeared on Thrusday 14 Mar 2013. After they had installed it asked for my password as usual. Then a black screen, however the curser still moved around. Ctrl,Alt, del worked and the normal Windows 7 page appeared. By clicking Run, Browse then right clicking Control Panel I had an operating panel and was able to back step the updates. Everything was then fine. The updates then reinstalled that night - same problem. All my drivers are up to date. I have a new power unit ( the fan went on the old one). I do notice that in Task manager there is no "explorer.exe" process running after the updates. Also in "My Computer" it lists 3 extra drives (card readers I think) I have back stepped it 3 times and each time it all works correctly. Also when I am in the black screen state when I open IE using links on the computer, ie. help for updates, IE opens with my bookmarks across the toolbar but the screen is blank but white. Any ideas anyone please -I can't backstep every day!! Updates installed are KB890830, KB2791765, KB2809289, KB2670838. View this thread

Bought a new Netbook MSI U180 with Windows 7 Starter, running ok except that Windows Update will not run, says "Windows could not search for new updates" Error Code 8024402F Windows encountered an unknown error. While running MSE scan my computer will go maybe an hour or so and just shut down and the screen will go black. I used to run windows defender at the same time and thought that it was running both of these at the same time that caused this to happen, now run one first and then the other. I want to say that there are times that the MSE scan will run and go to completion, but just certain times it stops before it completes the scan. View this thread

I have to restore the system to an earlier date in order to access the internet every morning. At shut down the updates are reinsatlled. It is frustrating to go thru this procedure everyday. View this thread
