I recently bought a Sony VAIO E Series laptop with Windows 8 loaded on it.Everything was working fine till today when it asked me to restart my computer to perform an update. I did just as it said, and the update was being installed. After that the computer turned off so I restarted it, it shows me the VAIO sign and then after that it is just stuck on a background screen, and shows the time and date on the bottom left and also the wifi and battery charge signal. That is all, it does not do anything else or show anything else? I have pressed numerous buttons but nothing happens.I have also restarted the computer by pressing the power button several times but still it boots up to the same background screen with time and date. I do not even see the cursor anywhere on the screen. I have tried to get in to safe mode by pressing shift + F8 during boot up, I have inserted the windows Drivers and Utilities CD that it came with, but none of that does anything. I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials and other things to get my PC ready for the Windows XP sp2 updating to sp3. Now I am done with the update and wanted to remove the Microsoft Security Essentials so that I can install McAfee. But It could not be removed. I tried to remove it from "Control Panel, Add/Remove programm" but not successful. What should I do to remove it? View this thread

My system keeps asking me to update these for .NET Framework 2.0 SP2. I've done this multiple times as shown below, but it isn't registering: Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2729450) (update 1 of 3)... done! Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2742596) (update 2 of 3)... done! Installing Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x86 (KB2789643) (update 3 of 3)... done! And, my Add/Remove Programs shows them to be installed. I've tried removing and reinsalling them and it shows them to be there, but apparently the system isn't seeing them. I've tried the Microsoft Fix it program on the Update site and it says that it repairs an update location, but the problem persists. Any clues what mmight be happenning here? View this thread

I had to do a system recovery on my windows xp sp2 media center edition..now on my recovery disc it says 2005 but, on my system information it says 2002, I have a ACPI Multiprocessor PC. I can't get any updates at all when I go to Microsoft update I get that error message 0x80244019. I have a Gateway PC. So I'm really lost here plz help. thanks View this thread

I have the old and well-known problem with Win 7 (Home Ed) that Windows Update continues to try and update IE 9, always failing with error code 9C48. I have tried all of the recommended fixes and tools had have had no success. Unfortunately, this problem now seems to also prevent me from updating to IE 10. Is there any way I can go directly to IE 10? Are there any new fixes for the IE 9 error code 9C48 problem? (Many of the suggested fixes for the IE 9 problem require that the IE 9 be uninstalled -- I do not have that option on this machine). View this thread

hi. i am having troubles in updating windows 8 since the first day that I have upgraded to it. here's another problem of me: whenever I use a mobile broadband connection to update, it always gets me to an error one of the errors that I always encounter is WindowsUpdate_8020002E even updating the apps in windows store via my mobile broadband gives me errors. I have even posted some problems here in the community but none of them were solved. I'm getting tired of the tech supports because all they give are solutions that are really cannot be called solutions I need my laptop to be updated because since december I can't update it and I don't have access to wifi connections I have done all things that people here tells me (and others on other threads) to do but still no luck - i ran the windows update troubleshoot tool - deleted the softwaredistribution (and the download folder) inside it - modern app troubleshooter - disabling antivirus - firewall - but hey? can i update if I was in safe mode? (I just thought coz I haven't tried that one my only hope was manual updating, but the downside for that solution is that, some security updates cant be downloaded in the microsoft website right? any help will be appreciated :) thanks View this thread

The updates appear to install successfully and history shows them installed, as does >Control Panel<>Add/Remove programs<. Have run Fixit and >Repair .Net Framework 4< in Add/Remove Programs but almost immediately after the update, I am prompted again to install. View this thread

I have replaced my harddrive in my emachines (model: T5246). The old one had Windows installler and .NET framework 3.5 issues that I tried to resolve for 3 or 4 weeks to no avail. In addition, it was noisy and vibrated enough to cause concern that it might soon fail. Anyway that is the reason for changing it out. Since installing the new one (WD blue model) I have used the original Vista 32 bit disk (No service packs) to install the OS. It has been a relatively slow process maybe because I have Windows Update set to inform me of any new updates so I can decide whether to download and install them myself. I have installed all "Important" and "Recommened" ones that were offered but not without some failing on the first try. I finally got to SP1 and I installed it and when it got done I closed the Update window and opened it again and it was offering SP1 again. So I did it again, six times so far. I even tried doing a restart 3 or 4 times after the download was completed. Looking at update history all updates show to have been successful. My question is, "Is this normal or should I do something different?" I thank you in advance for any help or advice offered. View this thread

Windows Updates has been trying to install Service Pack 2 to my computer. However this has been unsucessful and at the same time a new problem has suddenly emerged with my PC; it keeps crashing with bluescreens. This has only started in the last couple of days, absolutely fine before. I have run various scans and all ok. Could the Service Pack and the bluescreens be connected? Many thanks in advance. I installed Windows 8 to the secondary slave. Lots of problems, but I finally got everything working. I have a XP on a primary master. While booting the computer, I choose from the bios boot menu which operating system to boot to. I upgraded the XP to the Eight, used Clonezilla to clone disk etc. etc. I have done updates to the Eight. For example the first update after upgrade, the huge update, it went almost with no problems.But today the Windows 8 update broke the both hard drives! I believe the update wrote to the primary master (there is the XP). Fortunately I have a fresh clone of the XP & Eight made with Clonezilla.Does the Eight think that it is the only System on Universe? Did the Eight write to the XP drive? View this thread

I have Windows XP Pro SP3. When I click on Windows Update in Control Panel, a window pops up saying "Application Not Found". I looked for "wuapp.exe" under WINDOWS/System32 directory and it is not there. So, I do see Somehow it must have been deleted. I have setup automatic update for windows and system tray does show available updates. When I try doing the update via that notification update fails. I am guessing it must be due to the missing the "wuapp.exe" file. The problem started about a month ago. Any guidance is appreciated. Regards, View this thread
