I have a Lenovo p500 with windows 8 and a couple weeks ago the Updates have begun to fail during the process. It stops at 15% every time. Also the sound has stopped playing from my laptop. It will play out of head phones but wont play from the Laptop speakers. View this thread

Security update for Windows (KB2579686) fails to install each time I turn on my computer. This has been ongoing since October 11, 2011. I have Windows Vista operating system. The computer is a Dell XPS M1530 that is a 32 bit machine. It is now affecting the system in its speed, crashing down frequently or freezing, and not permitting opening of photos or not being able to go from one photo to another in the same subdirectory. i have been trying to get the windows update to run with no luck.seeing how it says it has not had a update since 1/5/2011. Tells me "windows update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. you may need to restart your computer." and i have 5 times now... does anyone have any idea how to fix.. Have now installed it at least 6 times. Says "installed successfully" but seconds afterwards, update icon reappears. Cannot have installed successfully as does not appear on list of installed programs otherwise I would uninstall it and try again. Secondly, computer does not automatically shut down and restart. Have tried manually to do this but without success. View this thread

I have had a new Windows 8 system for a few weeks now and have run into a recent problem. When trying to uninstall a Bluetooth program, I got the message that another program was currently being installed. As I knew of, nothing was being installed, so I restarted my computer. The screen went black, but the power light on my computer never went off, so I forced it to turn off by holding the power button. As of turning the system back on, Windows Update notified me to install updates, and when I did, it gave me an error message as well. I have not been able to uninstall/install any programs or use the Windows Update service since then. I searched the forums, and tried just about everything, and I can uninstall/install programs by ending the processes of Windows Installer, then installing. During the installation though, a window pops up saying something along the lines of "Microsoft Office Office 64-bit Components installation is now paused. To continue current installation, you must undo the changes made by this installation." Thanks so much! View this thread

I having been trying to install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932) it either fails to download or occasionally i have manged to get it to download and have restarted and on close down normally gets to 6% configure before going to restart when again gets to about 6% configuration before stating failed and reverting changes. I have followed advise on forum in terms of system readiness tool and troubleshooters. I have also tried in clean boot mode but no success. I am also having trouble applying the following the securty updates KB2742595 KB2737019 KB2729449 and KB2761465. I am going this on a dell inspiron laptop N5010 - window 7 home premium 64 bit version 6.1.7600 Build 7600. The other issue I have is when trying to open standard games like freecell I get the following message - C:Windowssystem32DSOUND,dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again ................... Again I have tried following advise on forums but no success. Are the problems interconnected Any suggestion gratefully received as I have spent many hours so far!!!!! View this thread

System Information: OS - Windows 8 64 bit A trial version of Macafee Internet Security is pre-installed Computer: Lenovo G580 i5-3210M 6GB 500GB The computer is brand new, straight from the box. After the initial setup process I checked the update history and two updates were listed KB2565063 and KB2771431. I selected Windows update and it found 26 new update files. I clicked update and the files were downloaded. The computer then re-started itself and seemed to install the updates OK (no error messages). The machine then re-started and a screen saying ‘Configuring Windows Updates’ appeared with a percentage counter. At 15% the process stalled and the message changed to ‘Failure Configuring Windows Updates’. The machine made several attempts at configuration, always stalling at 15%, and then restarted saying ‘Reverting changes’. I then used the windows update trouble shooter but this did not solve the problem. Can anyone help? I cannot believe that you should get this problem with a new laptop when first switched on. It doesn’t give me much confidence in either Lenovo or Windows 8. View this thread

I just bought a new hard drive and had to reistall windows 7. I just bought the recovery disc from HP. I have a 64 bit DV4 2155dx laptop. The system itself seems a litle slower than before. When I try and run windows installer I get the message, "Windows update cannot currently check for update because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I tried going to services and changing the Background Intelligent Service and Windows Update to start automatically without delay. That didn't work. I also downloaded microsoft's tool and it was unable to solve this. Any sugestions?? View this thread
