You: Hi, we have a new Windows 8 laptop. When we shut it down last night, it went to automatic updates. This morning it was stuck on "Installing update 10 of 33. What should I do? I manually shut it down, turned it back on, and it came back to the same screen "Keep your PC plugged in until this is done. Installing update 10 of 33...." View this thread

On my new all-in-one PC "Asus", I installed Google Chrome. This required a long work... I had to re-install it dozens of times because the version compatible with Windows 8 wouldn't work at all... or worked unbearably slow. Eventually, I managed to do it, but the Google Chrome now opens only via the malicious "searchnu/406' which somehow got through Kasperski anti-viral defense that was installed by the Geek Squad at Best Buy. Please, advise how I can get rid of this thing, "searchnu/406', if I can do it myself, or shall I get to the Geek people? Thanks, Konstantin. View this thread

I am unable to complete my MSE installations for more than a couple of times. I followed the instructions to restart my computer but yet I met with installations error. I have just received my notebook from Acer Support Malaysia with new HDD and with FRU Motherboard Assembly repaired. Have even made exceptions for MSE in the Firewall list. Do not know how to go further. Please advise. Thank you. View this thread

I just found out that my window defender is off, and its becoz I installed the Norton Security, for I thought it will help more to have two security, then the Kaspersky also was installed, but something happened and the PC restart and the Kaspersky was deleted. Now its only Norton is the one working. Should I just let it used until it expired ? will it not harm my PC? or should I un installed it now and try to turn on the window defender? I hope you can answer this, I don't want any virus on my new PC, this is my first computer and im just starting to know how to used it. Thanks View this thread

I downloaded Windows 8 as you can see below on Wednesday, The Operating system was working well until today when it crashed. The next time I tried to reboot it , it was stuck on a message that read 'Preparing to configure Windows Don't turn off your computer'. So I am unable to access my laptop since that moment,I'm having to use my girlfriend's laptop and Microsoft account to send this message. I'm a Computing student so I need a working computer most of the time , Because I downloaded it from your website I have no boot disc so I can't install the operating system again. Looking on internet forums I have noticed that other people have had the same problem and there is no fix for this issue without rebooting the laptop. I have deadlines coming up and I'm unable to do work for them without having a working laptop. Because of this problem I need you to either tell me a way I can fix it , offer me a refund or give me a windows 8 boot disc so I can try and sort out the problem myself by rebooting the computer and installing the operating system again. Hello, I have tried every possible solution to this problem to no avail. I have run SFC, readiness tool, tools specific to 80070490 ERRORS, an 11 step manual process on the Microsoft support website, and any other possible solution I can find. I have a PC that did not come with a Windows 7 Home Premium recovery disc but instead a protected recovery partition. Before I purchased the PC the store upgraded the OS to Windows 7 Pro 64bit using Windows Anytime Upgrade. IMMEDIATELY upon getting the PC home before doing ANYTHING else I created a set of recovery discs. All was fine and good until recently when I began having the 80070490 errors. The recommendation at this point is to reinstall the OS!! This is like replacing the engine, electrical, and all other systems in a car because the odometer does not work. Since the error is alleged to be caused by a corrupt file which keeps record of windows updates doesn't Microsoft have a tool that can detect updates correctly installed and "wipe out" those incorrectly installed, performing a reset of that database (or whatever type of file it is) file and allow us to re-perform corrupt updates? Even if it meant having to reinstall every single update it would be far easier than having to perform a system recovery (which I do not know would work because of the change in the OS from Win 7 HP to Pro (both 64bit)), then another "anytime upgrade," then reinstall and re-update every single app installed on my PC and perform all patches and updates to those as well? Isn't there even a default system upate tracking file that would assume NO updates had been performed and simply perform all Win 7 updates again, correcting registry errors, overwriting potentially corrupt files, etc.? Finally, is it a coincidence that this error is rampant while Windows 8 is being offered for 39.99? I have tried the new OS and it is counter intuitive to me as it is to many others. Some of the major PC magazines are recommending against the update even at the 39.99 price. My partner purchased a new PC with it preinstalled and he and I both do not like it. I was the N.A. at my last business and have always performed OS upgrades as they were released and participated in some betas for MS and other companies so I am not a newbie. This is the first OS that I can honestly say I will resist until it is absolutely necessary to upgrade or a new OS is released that gets rid of the things I consider counter intuitive about Win 8. So, is MS not correcting this security error update to the print spooler because it is hoping to "encourage" people to upgrade to Win 8? I know it may sound paranoid but I would not put anything past any large multi-national corporation at this point. The last thing is why can I not perform a REPAIR INSTALL using my Windows 7 Pro 64bit anytime upgrade? I already purchased the Win 7 Home Premium k64 bit OS and the upgrade to the Pro version. The only difference is it has been discless. Other than that I have paid for functional versions of both OS's and why is someone who purchases DVD versions of the OS be able to perform a repair install but those of us who have purchased electronic versions be prohibited from the same rights? This hardly seems fair or ethical and places a significant burden on those of us who will have to spend days reconstucting our PC's rather than simply performing a repair install. So, please help us ALL. Thank you. Sincerely, Ed S. View this thread

I've always had the Microsoft Security Essential (MSE) installed along with AVG Antivirus and Malwarebytes without experiencing any problems. However, when I received information from various PC Forums that MSE is not compatible with AVG Antivirus and I could experience problems. I just completed assembly and start up on my new PC and I just want to make sure that I have the proper security programs installed. View this thread

I tried to update my Nokia Lumia 900 using the latest version of Zuno. It goes through the entire installation, and at the end I am informed that 'Update Failed, error code 801812C0'. sometime in the update (step 7), the arrow signifying download mode is in a red circle and crossed over. I tried restoring my phone to a previous version. Sometime during the restoration the red circle appears again. If the phone is disconnected from the computer it shows, on the screen of the phone, a laptop and a phone connected by a cable, but without the arrow (Download mode?). Resetting the phone does not work. Restoring again does not work. View this thread
