Got myself a second hand Toshiba Satelite laptop this last week, previosly owned by a school so was cleaned of all their programs and info before being sold. I thought it best update but upon doing so once the microsoft webpage has started scanning my computer it displays a message stating it couldnt complete the search... and in the right hand corner is the error code 0x801901F4. After searching the internet i discoverd there were a few download tools which after downloading and using to scan the laptop found a varying number of problems... from 165 to 475 and of course they all wanted a certain amount of cash to fix. So another search found different settings i could change in order to fix the problem so microsoft could fully check my laptop and update and install service packs (currently on service pack 2 windows xp) but all changes didnt work. Just wondering what are my options to fix this problem, will buying and installing windows xp again or windows 8 fix the problem. Thanks for any help. View this thread

I have already purchased the original windows 8 pro via the upgrade assistant but unfortunately I am facing serious difficulties while downloading it, it always (except the first time which completed until 10% and then cancelled) gives the "unspecified error" so I am wondering if I can download the software through other sources using third party software such as the internet download manager and then activate it with the code but I have some questions: 1: is it legal to do so? 2: If it is where shall I download the software from without having a security risk? 3: the version of windows that I have bought the activation code for is "widows 8 provisional 64 bits" how can I choose the right file to download? I am having a issue while connecting my Samsung kies with my phone. The Samsung kies does not detect my phone. So I contacted Samsung customer center for the solution. I informed them that I am having the windows 8 pro on my laptop and the latest version of Samsung kies but the kies is not able to detect my phone. So after I gave them additional details of my phone they mentioned that for win 8 we need to install "Media feature pack" from Microsoft site and after I successfully install it the kies should be able to detect the phone. So I went to Microsoft site link is http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30685 And from here I downloaded the Windows6.2-KB2703761-x64.msu file having size of 78.8 MB. after saving the file I tried installing the same and right came the answer that "this update is not applicable to your computer". I then tried the other file i.e. Windows6.2-KB2703761-x86.msu having size of 57.9 MB and the result was the same "this update is not applicable to your computer". Please help me install the media feature pack for windows 8 pro. I have installed the media player also on the windows 8 pro. Running on Windows 7 Ultimate, updates started failing a few weeks ago, then when I looked at the laptop just before Christmas I noticed ALL updates have been removed, even though it is still running SP1. If I try to check for updates I get the above error. Similarly if I try to go to IE10, that fails because of missing updates, if I try to install them manually then I am told they are not relevant for my computer. I have run the MS Fixit utility, which identifies a problem, tells me it has fixed it, but in reality it does not make any difference Norton 360 is the AV product, hav etried turning this off but it makes no difference iTunes has been removed as I read this may cause issues, makes no difference I have searched the various forums over the last few days and tried all options found, nothing works Hardware is a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop, with 4Gb RAM I thought I may fix it by going to Windows 8, but without the fully updated Win 7, the upgrade fails Any helful suggestions will be much appreciated View this thread

Hello everyone, I bought recently and installed the Win 8 from Microsoft and now have problem with Trojan.JS/Medfox.B. Unfortunately the Win 8 can not remove it and every 5 min. have the notice Malware detected. I have used the app. Malwarebytes and anti malware and is does not help too. After I updated to Windows 8, I have found that if my computer is left on for a long time, the keyboard will freeze up and I can no longer get it to work. I have solved this by quickly ending the task "fingertapps", but it is irritating to have to do this. Is there some buffer in "fingertapps" that fills up and keeps new keys from being recognized? My computer was taken over by a protection racket called System Progressive Protection. Everything I try to open comes back with a message that the program was taken over by a virus and it can't be opened.
