Do I need to have service pack 3 on my computer in order to install Microsoft SEcurity Essentials? I now have windows xp and service pack 2 on the computer. I recently tried to download a Mcafee anti-virus plan and it was not possible because I have a sp2 on the computer. View this thread

My daughter said when she turned her laptop on (Windows 7), it started doing an update. So she left it to finish. When she came back to it, it "looked like old Windows, and everything on the Desktop was gone", and when she tried to access her Documents folder, it said it couldn't find it. So when I got home and looked at it, I looked in Users and saw that her folder was locked, and only Public was available. I rebooted it, and everything returned to normal. What was that all about? Did the update turn on some kind of safe mode that used a Classic look? And with her user being locked, I'm assuming she wasn't the one logged in, so what was logged in (she's the only user)? I had upgraded windows 8 from windows 7 before some days. I had tried to install some of the windows updates which are - Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2756872) - Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2769165) - Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2770917). But every time i had tried to update these one it says can't configure windows updates, reverting changes. I had tried it one by one but i can't install any of these. I had tried troubleshooting windows update but it can't help me. View this thread

i can download all other updates except kp973768. i have tried by running fix it in aggressive mode & restarted but no go. any ideas please. thanks tony View this thread

Win 7 x64. Latest bunch of updates from Microsoft, 2 are failing to install with the same error so I will just concentrate on KB2758857. Windows Update said I needed to reboot, so I did and it then rolls back the update, I have installed all of the other updates one at a time. Not too much info on error 80071AA7, the most recent I can find is about Win Vista. Error details below, pretty much the same info in the Event Logs. I believe I have Vista Home Basic (32 bit). For the last ten or more days 15 minutes to 30 minutes of my life have been consumed by a Windows Update error where an update is downloaded but after 15 minutes does not install correctly. Every time I try to run the application, I get an error message stating; 'Windows Defender has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer' 'If you're using another app to check for malicious or unwanted software, use Action Centre to check that app's status' Now I'd like to clear up a couple of things first; I'm using a brand new laptop with Windows 8 installed. Therefore I have not got Microsoft Security Essentials installed either now or previously. So I cannot uninstall this. Also, this laptop came with McAfee pre-installed and enabled, which I then uninstalled. When I try to run Windows Defender as Administrator, I get the same message. The actual application will not open, not allowing me to turn it on. Just an error message. Is there anything I can do to open the application or to turn it on? View this thread

Hola: Dispongo del windows ultimate, tengo configurado el update para que descargue y yo elegir cuando y que actualizar. Desde hace algo mas de una semana se me descargó una actualización del windows defender y me da error: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.141.2892.0) Detalles del error: Código 8007007E Por lo que he leido tiene algo que ver con los antivirus, el mio es el Panda 2012 y para solucionarlo conviene desactivar el windows defender. El problema es que no veo que yo tenga instalado este programa o si lo tengo, no se como desactivarlo. Probe a ocultar la actualización, para que no la instalase y buscase las actualizaciones del sistema posteriores, pero aun asi, me dice siempre que esta actualizado el sistema, para al dia siguiente volver a ver el error de la actualización. Alguien me podria decir o dar algun consejo para solucionarlo? ya que tengo el software original en todo el equipo, para estar seguro y tranquilo, pero aun asi nada de nada. I just bought a new Samsung 13.3 inch notebook. And did the upgrade to windows 8. Now I've lost most of the function keys abilities. ie the backlit function keys dont work anymore, either do the brightness keys. And also the the trackpad wont accept 2 finger page scrolling anymore. Whats going on??? I've just sold all my apple products, now I'm having issues with Windows. Annoying. View this thread

I recently attempted to contact Yahoo.com to repair an email problem and was directed to Click4Support. They sold me a repair contract including Microsoft Security Essentials license for a three-year term. They showed me a csrss.exe file in my task manager and stated it was a Trojan that was stealing my computer information and shutting down Microsoft security files. They offered technical support to remove the virus, stating my McAfee program would not remove such virus/Trojan. After three hours of remote access to my computer to "fix" my problem, my email is still messed up and I am out over $200.00. Is this service approved by Microsoft or have I been duped? They say they are authorized to work with Microsoft systems and that the free Microsoft Security Essential download is a scam, that Microsoft does not offer the program for free. Any truth to any of this or do I have to cancel my credit card account as they now have that information as well? Thank you. View this thread

I have had the MS security essentials for some time now. Since Yahoo has upgraded their servers to include Australia, I keep getting Yahoo's stupid yieldmanager cookie that hijacks my browser and takes it to some avg isearch engine. Why does MSSE not catch and delete this cookie? I do not want it tracking me. I have blocked it in my tools in my browser, but it comes back. I have to wonder if MS and Yahoo are in cahoots here. i am getting error code: 0x80040154 after uninstalling windows 7 service pack 1 (reason for uninstalling sp1 was because after installing it, my wireless network adapter ceased to work). Microsoft Security Essentias is now unresponsive, cannot uninstall or re install the program. View this thread

Hello. I am just getting used to the Microsoft Surface with Windows RT and require some guidance on running the Windows Defender. How do I do this? I searched high and low and cannot seem to locate a suitable method. I was taken to a link that has a version of Defender available for download but it is dated 05/23/2007 and is out of date. Further, it says "This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor." Does Defender come pre-loaded on the Surface and, if so, how can I run it? I have tried searching for it through the Search Charm but cannot get it to run. Help would be appreciated. Thank you, DL View this thread
