On 12/22/12 tried to download update KB2753842 got error code 800703F1. Got hold of the Tech Desk at Microsoft and a tech logged on to my PC remotely and tried to solve problem for 6 hours. He did several command prompts, selective start-up, typed in several registry commands and did a scannow for integrity issues. He went in and disabled my McAfee security but forgot to enable it before he got done and forgot to change it back to normal start-up. Well he said he fixed the problem (if you call hiding the update a fix). After he logged off that's when my problems really began. I went to check on the update and he erased every update, no history, then it showed one update was available It was KB2753842 and I tried to update got the same error code as above. Then my McAfee starting blinking red and said my PC was unprotected and message center I needed to activate it. I couldn't do anything because all the services were disabled from the command prompt the tech ran. Finally got another tech and explained what the first tech had done. This time it was only 4 hours. The first tech didn't leave any notes, so tech number 2 did about the same as tech one did but could not solve the update problem, and didn't solve my McAfee security problem. So enter tech number 3 after I e-mailed and called the desk for the third time. He finally got my McAfee security working, and told him to not even try to fix the update problem after 10 hours. Then today 1/9/13 get 11 updates that Microsoft says are critical security updates. My PC only updates 3 and I get error code 800703F1 again. Get hold of Microsoft support again today, spend 50 minutes on the phone explaining problem, giving him the previous service numbers from the 12/22 encounters. Give him all the updates that failed today and their numbers and ERROR CODE 800703F1 as the explanation. He said he reviewed the notes from the previous techs and that the solution to the problem is (1. I upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 after I bought this Dell AIO new and got the coupon when I purchased . He told me I had to reload Windows 7 then re-install Windows 8 again, to solve the problem. I told him I upgraded to Windows 8 on my Toshiba laptop from Windows 7 and have no problem with the same updates that I can't upload on my desktop. Have the same McAfee security on there as well so how can that be the solution? After reading the forum and different threads on the updates, a whole lot of people are having the same problems The tech today said for me to contact Dell which I have already, they say its Microsoft's problem. And finally the tech said 3rd party software (CCleaner, Advanced System Cleaner, Defraggler) may not be letting my PC update. But have the same 3rd party software on my laptop. I got so irritated with the tech today that I just hung up. I agree with one of the ladies on one thread on the forum, if Microsoft techs can't fix it what worth is it having Windows 8. I just hope someone out there has a solution that can lead to a cure! View this thread

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a very fast computer. Yesterday it was crashing Outlook, the search engine was not working, and I had trouble getting anything to work. I clicked the up-arrow on the right side of the taskbar to see what was running, and there was something I had never seen before - labeled "Everything". I opened it to see what it was, and it had several http:// items it seemed to be controlling. After deleting it and restoring the system, Outlook still crashes and the search engine is still fouled up! Any ideas? It seems like a malware, but Microsoft Security Essentials did not detect it. Hi everybody. After installing updates that require a system reboot, it's necessary to reboot as soon as posible or if it is safe to install the updates and reboot later? I mean, the system become unstable? As far as I know, Windows detects that the file is in use, the new version of the file is copied to a temporary location and the system replace it on the next boot, but I would like to confirm it and to have some more details. KB2753842 causing BSOD again - no previous answers to other open questions works for me. This update is destructive. I have tried windows restore, and all versions still have this applied. No resolution using Restore. I have turned off auto install of updates, but that is no resolution, as all my restores have this still installed. This PC running widows 7 has worked well for 2 years until this update which continues to cause BSOD. There have been NO other changes to my PC system other than windows updates. MS FIX KB2753842! From William MWP I have tried to resolve a problem with Windows Update but, so far, without success and would appreciate some assistance. The relevant information is as follows:- Dell Laptop Studio 1745 computer. Windows7 Home Premium. Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601. Type X64 based PC. On the 12 October the McAfee security programme kept indicating that my computer was not protected and I was unable to recover it; shortly afterwards the computer crashed irretrievably and had to be returned to Dell who installed a new motherboard. On return (17 October) it worked normally but I was still getting security messages that my computer was not protected . This problem was finally resolved on the 20 October after a remote access session with a McAfee technician. According to the reliability history monitor the system reached stabilty level 10 by the 7th November. On the 15th there were a number of updates that installed successfully but with the exception of KB2761226 which failed with error code 800b0100. It continued to fail daily to the 11th December. However, on the 28th November update KB2762895 installed successfully. On the 12th Dec it installed KB2779562, 2761465, 2753842, 2758857, 2770660 and Windows malicious software removal tool. It did not install KB 2779030 with error code 800b0100; I believe this replaced KB2761226 mentioned above. 2779030 has failed to install from 12th Dec. to date. However, on the 21st Dec. security update KB 2753842 installed successfully. Windows Update currently recommends 3 important updates; KB 2779030, 2739159,and 2743555. These return error codes 800b0100, 80073712 and 800b0100 respectively. I have tried Microsoft Fixit and automatic trouble shooter without success, and, from answers on the Community Forum, System Update Readiness Tool and System File Checker. I cannot send all the detail from the CheckSUR Log or sfcdetails.txt but the following are extracts. CheckSUR: please note that KB2731847 was installed successfully on the 15th August 2012. It seems that it will install some updates but not specifically Security Updates for Windows 7 (x64) but apart from this problem the computer is working normally. I have not tried a clean boot as "services" indicate that the update service is started, Automatic (delayed) and BITS, started, manual.I should be grateful for any advice and whether it`s possible to repair the corrupted files (?) without having to re-install W7.
