I have 87 updates not entered on my computer- used to be automatic but now when I use Fixit Error 80070539 appears. It spends ages saying it is downloading but nothing happens View this thread

My Windows will not process any automatic updates EXCEPT for windows defender. The error code is Windows Update error 80070002. When I follow directions for deleting temp files, it tells me it is not a valid file type or the file is damaged. What now? View this thread

I had no problems with any other updates so far but Windows Vista sp2 will not update to this one (KD2761494). Any ideas or suggestions? View this thread

One of my laptops running Windows 8 Pro x64 keeps doing automatic "update installation" restarts even during use. I know there are some features that have been added to insure updates are done within 72 hours, but based on my readings I don't think it should be doing that in the middle of active use. What was happening at the time of restart: Girlfriend was using iTunes actively and listening to music. Any thoughts on a good way to fix this? Or is this even a known issue? Thanks View this thread

A friend brought his computer over and asked me to see if I could unlock it, due to some kind of software that was displayed on the screen. When I started the computer, it booted up almost to the Windows welcome screen, but then an official looking FBI warning appeared telling the computer user that this computer had been locked and to go to moneypak and send $200.00 to them and they would unlock the computer. First, has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know of a way to get this software off, with the exception of wiping the HDD and re-installing a clean copy of the O/S ? I have followed the instructions on the Microsoft essentials site for window seven users and it did not work. I may not have uninstalled an anti-virus program but if so they were not obviously recognizable as such in my control panel. View this thread

A friend brought me a laptop with Windows 8 to the Dominican Republic. I teach English online and needed a second computer. After a couple days or less using it Windows forced an update, and Blackboard Collaborate and gmail started acting up, dropping classes etc. Finally I had no choice but to restore the computer to before the update. Next few days were pretty uneventful, then today the update forced again despite me telling the computer not to allow updates without my acceptance. Since that moment of restart I get blue screen every few minutes. I downloaded a scanning program and it says there are no threats. Is there a patch to repair the damage done by the windows update. My return options for the computer are nil, and my work depends on me having a working computer. I appreciate your help. View this thread

I have an hp note book,it's hard disk was corrupted. After replacing the hard disk with Toshiba KM7559GS, windows update will error. in addition to I cannot update .Net Framework version from 2 to 4.5 version.(error:0xc8000222) View this thread

Since the last update, I'm having a very difficult time with viewing folder contents. I typically like to view thunbnails since a lot of what I do is graphical. Now, the thumbnails won't display and explorer keeps freezing, preventing some folders from ever opening (Not Internet Explorer, but the windows explorer). If I right click to look at properties (or just to make sure the extensions are associated with the right program), I get a spinning wheel and nothing happens. I'm running Win 7 64-bit and this is the first update that has given me issues. Any ideas how I can fix this problem? View this thread

I am using Windows 7. When I open up my computer it attempts to configure the updates and gets 35% done and then says that it can't configure the updates, reverting changes. The problem is not installing the updates. The problem is configuring them. I have tried the troubleshooter and that doesn't solve the problem. View this thread

I believe that this is an important update. I was offered this update on my Vista and Windows 7 64 bit computer. I am not being offered this update on my Windows 7 64bit laptop. I purchased this computer in December 2011, after the root certificate problem which prompted Microsoft to issue other root certificate updates. I found and downloaded them and Microsoft said they were not appropriate for my system when I tried to install them. I tried installing kB981125 for XP sp3 and that didn't give an indication of it's being installed or not - but it did not show up in the "view installed updates" area, or in the event viewer. Is it possible that this computer doesn't require the KB931125 update? View this thread

I installed Windows 8 a couple of weeks ago and appeared not to have too many problems. I installed and have been using Microsoft Office 2003 quite happily for the past week or so. Unfortunately in the last few days this changed. The main issue is that I cannot use the open dropdown box from the top menu for word or excel. I click File, Open and nothing happens the dialogue box that is normally populated with a list of files is now displayed completely blank. I have now compounded the problem because I decided to uninstall / re-install Office 2003 only to find that I cannot now even use the Outlook menu to configure and select my Outlook data files. Once again if I try to add a data file the dialogue box is displayed blank so I am unable o select a file to open.. I have experimented by trying some of the other dropdown options in word and excel only to find that any dropdown box that would normally be populated with a list of files is shown blank. I can open files by directly accessing it in windows and clicking it. At which point the spreadsheet or word documsnt opens as expected. Seeing too many other forum logs about sudden unexplained issues following windows upates to be comfortable about this version of windows. View this thread

Need answer about showmypc.com I got a phone call from a man with a very thick, Indian accent saying that my computer had been hacked and that they were receiving a lot of errors from my computer. He had to got to web site called "showmypc.com" and with ID # 3151 and then with pass word 2134-4860-7600 after they fool me to get access to my computor and told me that Microsoft allowed them to install a software to protect my computor and I need to pay them $20 for life to get this sofware then asked me to get all my information then I wake up and told them them they are scammers and can't do any harm to my computer then he and wthe women with him get so mad and start treating me to crash my computor in the next two or three days..bla bla bla . I wish Microsoft alerting the public that No body will be scammed by these people in the future they are targeting thos who have no good knowldege about computor Please Please find them or do something to stop them by alerting the public at larg the phone number they called to my place is 206-701-0285. I bought a computer last year(2011) and I purchased Kaspersky Pure for protection. I have used it all year and it is now time to purchase a renewal, which I did. I followed all the download instructions and I can't install it on the computer. I don't think Windows 7 is allowing me to install it. I downloaded it but a box comes up and says "the icon on the desktop(which Kaspersky said to download to) can't be used because it is not valid. When I bought My new PC I was sold an Anti Virus/Firewall product - Norton Gold as part of the package. - I have disabled the windows Firewall as the Norton Gold has An Integrated one but should I also disable Defender as it is now also a full anti-Virus product? View this thread
