I keep getting the same updates installing every time I shut down the computer. I dont get any error messages and they seem to install fine each time. They are the following security updates: KB 2604121,KB2656368,KB2686827,KB2729449,KB2737019. I tried using the "Fix It" program and it did fix some things but the updates still continue to install every time I shut down. Any help would be appreciated. View this thread

Should the updates take so long. I am unable to use my laptop when updates are being installed. The updates are getting stuck at 13% and I cant reboot the system. Very frustrating. Would be grateful of your advise. View this thread

I am Andrew Rozentsvayg, an electronical engineer. In early October, I bought a Samsung laptop NP350V5C CPU i-7 3610QM, RAM 8GB (DDR3) with Windows 7. I installed the necessary software and had no problems. But it had hardware problems and laptop was replaced by a similar but with Windows 8. Now I have other problems - many professional programs are not working properly or immediately generate an error and closes (Xilinx design tools).Control Panel option works under Windows 7 not successful. In addition - the option of the two systems (+ Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) is not working. In this regard, please provide me the option for reinstalling and use of Windows 7. View this thread

I turned off windows defender and cannot figure out how to turn it back on. I have found Defender and when I start it I get the not so helpful message "Windows Defender has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer." Yep... knew that. How do I turn it on? Really guys, this should not be that difficult. LDW PS: I do not have any other anti-virus program installed. Defender was turned on and running. I turned it off at the suggestion of another post in this forum to see if that would correct the problem with an error in the Windows Experience Index. To add insult to injury, turning it off did not fix the WEI problem. View this thread

Hi, I am struggling to get rid of an unknown virus in my laptop from past one week. I have scanned my laptop with microsoft security essentials, malware bytes, hitman pro and none of them were able to detect the virus. I used TDSSKILLER.EXE and it detected a virus. The following are the details: Operating system: Windows 7 (64 bit) Detected object count: 1 Actual detected object count: 1 C:Program FilesDellDell Wireless WLAN CardWLTRYSVC.EXE - copied to quarantine HKLMSYSTEMControlSet001serviceswltrysvc - will be deleted on reboot HKLMSYSTEMControlSet002serviceswltrysvc - will be deleted on reboot C:Program FilesDellDell Wireless WLAN CardWLTRYSVC.EXE - will be deleted on reboot wltrysvc ( UnsignedFile.Multi.Generic ) - User select action: Delete But even the TDSSKILLER.EXE failed to remove the virus. My laptop has become very slow and I am unable to get rid of the virus. Please help me if there is any solution for this problem. My observations: 1. Whenever I have reinstalled the OS, I saw the following message immediately after boot: setup is updating registry settings 2. These are the suspicious processes I find in task manager: csrss.exe, atieclxx.exe, winlogon.exe (Suspicious since I am unable to find their location nor am I able to end these processes) 3. Getting an error code(0x80248014) when I try to update microsoft security essentials 4. I suppose its a rootkit since (a) For the first time when I tought my laptop was infected, I scanned my laptop using MSE and during the scan my system crashed and the CPU clock got changed. (b) I am unable to get rid of the virus even after reinstalling the OS and completely formatting my hard disk. View this thread

Hello, I have just done a scan on my Windows XP Home Edition PC using Avira Free Antivirus, and it has found some malware called "TR/Rootkit.Gen2". Is it bad? Can it harm your computer? How do you get rid of it? Where is it stored? Thanks, Zuga01 View this thread

I'm running Windows 8 with Windows Defender as the primary anti-virus program. I've been using it and updating it since launch without problems. Recently I got a popup saying I need to update my Defender. Whenever I click on update it loads for a bit and then says the update failed and that I need to check my network or internet connections. Error code: 0x80240022 Description mentions that Defender couldn't download definition updates. Might be caused by missing system file or an incorrect setting or a problem with the registry file. I haven't touched any of the settings on Defender since I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8. View this thread

I had to take my computer in to have the Trojan:32/alueron removed at office depot because I could not get the windows defender offline that I had downloaded to work. Office depot made quite a few changes to my computer including adding, it seems, a team viewer. I have not given them permission to share anything on my computer, and I would like to remove the team viewer. However, I can't find it in my programs, I can only find changes made to my computer using it after my repair. Also, since the repair when I browse around 15 times an hour I am hit with Trojan:JSMedfos.B severe. Can you help me with this? I don't think this was a cure. My computer never got virus' like this before the repair. View this thread

During installation of Microsoft Security Essentilas the installation halts with error code 0x080070645. The installation briefly goes to "removing installed components" then reverts to error. I have walked through all the solutions via the MSE installation helps with no luck View this thread

Hello, A few weeks ago MSE picked up Exploit: java /CVE- 2010-0094.BL Exploit: java/CVE-2010-084.AJ Trojan:Java/MESDE. Upon researching the virus found that best idea was to delete Java from my system which I have done. Last night upon completing a full scan of my computer MSE again picked up Java/CVE-2011-3544.NF. Then ran Microsoft Safety Scanner to ensure that it was gone. Did more research and it seems that this strain of virus can also be picked up just by visiting a site and not clicking on a link. Big clue that something was wrong yesterday was the blacking out of web pages when mouse scrolling. Scroll up and page view would return. Questions: -- Is it possible that this virus is not being completely removed from my system and is hiding a small packet in my memory as is suggested by some in the numerous articles about this virus. If so, outside of doing a reinstall, is there a way to detect pieces of stowaways such as this? -- And, besides keeping my temp files cleaned and deleting history when I close my browser, what else can I do? What kind of damage is this virus doing to my computer? Can it spread to my back-up drive and thumb-drives? Thank you! View this thread

I received an update for my nvidia drivers and now those drivers are gone. I am unable to get the 1600x900 resolution and my screensaver no longer functions. My system doesn't register any video drivers. I HAD Nvidia 6150se nforce 430 drivers. re-downloading them did not work. Is there anyway to undo the giant mistake Windows Update has made? I have no idea what happened. I just bought this laptop from Wal Mart on Monday the 18th. I get home and everything is running just fine. Until I was trying to make sure that it was all up to date. I looked for updates in the HP help center, which of course I did find about three. So I installed the updates. I didn't really notice anything wrong until my Internet Explorer started acting up. So I went ahead and told the computer to check for any Windows Updates, and then I got the message that I needed to "Repair Windows Update Database Corruption"... It says: *Potential Windows Update Database Error Detected 0x80070490 *Error 1 -Access to the Path 'C:\Windowssoftwaredistribution' is Denied I was just recently robbed, otherwise I wouldn't have even had to go and blow money that I didn't have in the first place, just to buy another computer. So I am not very happy with what I am having to go through with this "NEW" Laptop from HP... I cant barely get it started up sometimes before I get a warning about the system using almost all the memory! PLEASE help me someone. I REALLY do not have the money to take this damn thing somewhere and have it fixed. Knowing my luck it wouldn't be covered in the warranty that came with it. Even so, I really need to have it with me, and not out somewhere getting fixed! Thank You James View this thread

Hello Community, after upgrading from Windows ME (Millennium Edition), I just found that my Windows XP SP3 still has some unupdated components that so far Microsoft Update has never identified nor fixed (notably inside %windir%SYSTEM32 for now I only identified MSCOMCTL.OCX and MSCOMCT2.OCX). Since I'd like to at least manually fix both files ASAP, is there any reason why KB932349 (MS08-070) is unavailable from Microsoft Catalog in any language ? If no reasons really exist, could you please kindly ensure this is fixed ASAP and let me know once KB932349 is on Microsoft Catalog ? P.S. JFYI even without any detection from Microsoft Update, I already found that KB2597112 (MS12-027) already exist on Microsoft Catalog so at least for now I'll manually update MSCOMCTL.OCX . Post submission Editing: Unluckily I just found that MSCOMCTL.msp from KB2597112 (MS12-027) won't install because I don't have Office 2003. So any more suggestions to overcome this is welcome too... ;-) Thanks in advance for any collaboration. Best Regards Rob View this thread

I'm a new Windows user, having crossed over from Macintosh. I have everything up and running on my new laptop (email, network, apps, etc.) and I installed virus protection. My only problem so far is trying to update Windows. I'm getting an error message, 80240440. I ran a checked and two items were identified and corrected, but it didn't resolve the problem. I've tried several times during the past few hours and still can't seem to get Windows updated. Can anyone offer a little help? What might be preventing the update? View this thread
