Hello, For a secured stand-alone Windows 7 32-bit system (can never again connect to Internet), what is the best method for retrieving security updates for Microsoft Windows and other products from Microsoft? Is there one download or must every update be individually downloaded? If there is one download, is it only for Windows or does it include Office, Silverlight, .NET 4, etc.? Error details: Code 80070490 I have been trying to update this service pack since June 24, 2011 & my laptop refuses. I have done everything that has been suggested on the internet (that I could find on my own) including disabling my anti-virus software—all to no avail. Can anyone help me??? I have an HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx entertainment notebook that came preinstalled w/ Windows 7, which I purchased in July/August 2010. I'd appreciate any assistance the community could offer. Thanks! I have recently started using my laptop with Vista. As it should, it checks for updates but when I try to install them, it tells me I have a different build flavor of Windows live. #1 - What does that error mean exactly? #2 - If that update isn't needed for my computer, why does it keep showing up? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Every time I try to shut my computer down I am told not to turn it off or unplug it as it is installing 2 updates. The updates in question are KB2656351 and 2600217. When I open up Control Panel and check these, every time it says they were successfully installed but still the messages come up on shut down. Also, and I don't know if this is related, I'm getting error messages when I boot up about Skydrive saying I can't run Skydrive with full administrator rights ...... but I'm not. If I check properties for Skydrive - compatibility - the check box to run the programme as an Administrator is NOT ticked. These issues occurred simultaneously. View this thread

I have a HP Envy m6 and recieve the message Windows Failed to Configure Updates. Reverting Changes. Do not turn off your computer. Most of these links are in reference to Lenovo laptops and my antivirus is Kaspersky and I also run Malware Bytes. When I review my update logs, some updates are successful but many failed. "Security Essentials Prerelease Version: 4.0.1540.0" I have never had a prerelease version installed on this machine. I did find in the above path a "EppOobe.etl File" Do I need to delete it? My version of MSE is 4.2.223.1. I find from my searches that this issue has been around for a while and if the file is deleted it just comes back. The only other advise i find is to just ignore it. This error shows every single time machine is started and is hard to ignore. If there is no fix why should it show up in event viewier? Why does EV show anything that there is not a cure for? I find ignore EV. Why is there even an EV in the software? Is there a way to disable EV so one will not have to ignore? Maybe a box to mark "ingore". I use to use Malwarebytes as well as Defender. I see they say no conflicting programs. I also see the threats out there and other computer people tell me to run Malwarebytes too anyway. I want to know if WSE will work all right if I do?? View this thread

Gentili signori, ho un problemino con il pc di casa: Windows7 Home Premium. Ho scoperto che non scarica e installa aggiornamenti da giugno scorso. E un peccato perché per esempio Live Movie Maker non funziona più, mi dice di aggiornarlo ma gli aggiornamenti sono inibiti. Sono andato su Window Update, ma c’e’ una bella croce rossa a fianco di “Verifica la disponibilità di aggiornamenti per il computer”. Se clicco “Controlla aggiornamenti” esce una finestra che dice: “ impossibile verificare la possibilità di aggiornamenti. Il servizio non e’ in esecuzione, potrebbe essere necessario riavviare il pc”. Ho riavviato varie volte, senza esito. Ho provato con Cambio Impostazioni e quant’ altro… niente. E’ un problema grosso? Surely Im not the only person with this problem.... How do I stop windows defender updates (that vast numbers of people don't want or need) whilst keeping the standard updates? Using Windows 7, I've turned off Windows Defender since I prefer an alternative security software package. Updates are set to notify before download - since I rightly don't want MS sticking whatever they want on my machine without asking. Problem is, every day now there seems to be large Defender update that slows and stalls my machine whilst the notification loads. I then have to go through the daily routine of opening updates, unchecking the defender box, right click and hide and okay it in order to get rid of this bug. Every single day.
