I have installed the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) windows update for Windows 8. After downloading, running it, accepting the license and conducting a successful installation, two problems arise: The installed update hasn't appeared in the Installed Updates list with Programs and Features. The RSAT options haven't appeared in the Turn Windows features on or off list within Programs and Features. According to many threads within this forum, there appears to be an issue with the English (UK) language pack. The issue is apparently resolved once the English (US) pack is installed. Well, the English (US) pack appears in the Languages section of my build however the issue still occurs. Does this pack need to be set as the main language? If so, I'm unable to do that at present. I tried to remove an entire group of start items from the "all apps" start screen. I followed a link to a shortcut and removed the short cut. I have already removed the app. (actually an entire group of apps, Qt 5.0.0). Now the Qt 5.0.0 "start group" is still on the start screen, and when I click on any item, it goes to the desktop. why am i getting Blue srceen in windows 8? Hi all, I have a problem , I am very new here so I don't know exactly what to do.I have new HP laptop(less than 2 months old) I am using windows 8 , recently my pc is restarting automatically , the first message was 1) System_service_exception and second time it happened was this msg 2) IRQ_NOT LESS_THAN blah blah message. I don't know what to do I have attached my .dmp file here ,pls have a look and reply ASAP.I use avast antivirus. I also use Ubuntu 12.10 LTS in virtual box. is that causing problem because after installing it only BSOD started to appear. i love Ubuntu so I will not uninstall it . is there any other alternative for it. I use my PC whole day and keep downloading stuff from bit torrent etc . but I shut it down before going to sleep. The BSOD is really unexpected I cant predict when it happens.I am using VirtualBox 4.2. This is only required to run any guest OS in your host OS.I have windows 8 Home edition not Pro.Yesterday night I again got the same error and it happened almost at the same time as it happened day before yesterday. I have also uninstalled avast AV and installed Adaware AV now and also updated all my drivers . I don't want it to repeat causing damage to my laptop. And one strange thing is that I get all my folders and files appear in blue color. What might be the reason? I have also removed Ubuntu guest OS from my system and all related components , it was my favourite.I have attached the related files . I have a HP G36CA Laptop, the problem with it is that recently it went hey-wire and was acting slow very very slow as well as some odd things ended up happening such as admin password being asked during program installation and the password was not the same as I always use to login as this was my own Laptop only used by me so I was the only admin on it. In any event, one day I had enough of this **** and slowness I choose to restore it to factory state with possibility of getting rid of inability to install programs and possibly increase speed. But I was dead wrong, this move actual revealed that for some odd reason the recovery partition was not being read while it was clearly showing up if I was logged in. And because I do not have a recovery CD or anything with Windows 7 on it there is no way for restoring it other then possibly obtaining a downloadable ISO which I can burn onto CD/DVD and using the key on the Windows 7 sticker re-install the system. Meanwhile I am using Ubuntu 12.10 as an alternative. Any suggestions as to how I can possibly get Windows 7 back onto the machine? Or would I need to find an ISO and just use the key to do the trick? windows 8 restarted the boss's computer without the option to postpone it and lost everything open. This is such a fatal flaw we are not going to roll out windows 8 until we have confirmed this is fixed at any of our clients. What a disaster! There is no obvious way to disable this! Can Office 2013 Telemetry be used to do the following? 1. Capture add-ins from Windows XP / Office 2007 machines 2. Take the resultant list of add-ins found and cross-reference with the Microsoft Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Application Compatibility Visibility Program 3. Be able to see which add-ins would be compatible with different combinations such as XP / Office 2010, Win 7 / Office 2010, Win 7 / Office 2013 and Win 8 / Office 2013? I just installed my second Windows 8 OS at home, had also done one at work. The first was a 'from scratch', the second an upgrade but 'leave nothing' The last one an upgrade and leave everything. But this last one comes up with the 'blueish/green' splash screen and has 'Press Ctrl Alt Del to sign in' in the top left corner. And indeed only then (not after a mouse click) the actual login screen appears. The first two don't have that. just a mouse click is enough to get the login screen. Why the difference? This is the error message, preventing installation... "We're sorry, but we can't verify the signature of files required to install your Office product. Every time I start the computer, I get the error saying "failure configuring updates. reverting changes." Microsoft Fixit did not help, not did system restore. I do not have the windows DVD. I tried booting in safe mode and debugging mode. I've also tried manually installing the updates but upon restarting the computer, I get the same error message. How can I ensure successful updates? In any other case I wouldn't care, but in this case my computer updated the driver for my mouse, and now my mouse will remain inactive until my computer can restart to fix the changes. To ensure that it wasn't my mouse (since the light is on but remains inactive) I tried every USB port and made sure the power supply wasn't cut off to any of them. Device manager came up with Code 37 after each computer restart. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but of course I forgot that that would also require a restart, which failed. I suspect that because windows updates reverts the changes, of course then the mouse driver won't be able to install. The updates that I need to install are as follows. I am helping an elderly neighbor with his HP Compaq desktop computer running Windows XP SP3. His computer locked up with the FBI scam malware. I used Defender Offline to gain back control (2 viruses were found and rremoved). I then downloaded and ran Malwarebytes which found several more viruses. Finally, he had installed AVAST Free on this machine and I scanned with that and it found even more things to remove. Then I noticed that the AVAST had been installed over MSE. I uninstalled AVAST using the AVAST removal tool, and uninstalled MSE using Control Panel/Add-Remove. I ran One Care Cleaner. I also ran the McAfee and Norton removal tools, just to be sure. I reinstalled MSE, but MSE could not turn on the Windows Firewall. After reading some Posts in this forum on this issue, I tried to turn on Windows Firewall through Security Center. I got the message that "Due to an unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings". I checked services and found NO Windows Firewall listed there. Not sure where it is. Also, fyi, it appears Windows Update is not working either. I get an error message when I click EXPRESS to install updates ("The website has encountered a problem..."). YIKES. Looks like a real mess. I've been freeing up C drive space over the past week, going from only 4gb's free to 26gb's free. I've been getting this rundll error for over 6 months, maybe longer.
